Extended Summary
Colby and Maggie are in the school office. Both are confused at Bella’s actions, since she seemed to get on well with Simone. Colby confirms that Bella knew about the affair but says she didn’t seem bothered about it. Maggie says she hasn’t said anything about why she did it and isn’t sure about punishment, since Bella can’t afford to miss any more school. Colby says he’ll get some answers. However, when Colby and Bella walk home, Bella refuses to expain, simply saying she’ll take the punishment. Raffy and Ryder listen from nearby. Raffy gives Ryder a thank you kiss for getting her out of trouble but notes what Bella did was impressive. Ryder doesn’t agree and then it hits him: Bella didn’t do it to hurt Simone but to impress Raffy. Raffy thinks it’s a bit extreme but Ryder points out Bella thought she’d be pleased and she was. Roo overhears the last part and asks for an explanation.
Dean encounters Willow outside the surf club and she confirms she’s finishing soon. Their attention is drawn to Maggie and Ziggy; Maggie tries to apologise but Ziggy is annoyed Maggie suspected her and storms off. Willow encourages Dean to go after her although she doesn’t look happy about it. Dean finds Ziggy on the beach and she admits she had less than two hours’ sleep. Up at the surf club, Maggie laments to Ben how badly she handled it. Brody and Simone arrive; Brody offers to get someone else to cover Salt but Simone declines. Maggie approaches Simone and says the student’s confessed and it wasn’t Raffy, but she can’t tell her who it was yet. Simone thanks Maggie for her professionalism and Maggie looks as though she’s having to bite back what she wants to say. After Maggie has gone back to Ben, Roo approaches them with her information.
Colby finishes a phone conversation with Maggie. He calls Bella through and asks if she did it to impress Raffy. Bella says Raffy didn’t like her being friends with Simone; she agrees it was stupid but says she’s never had friends before. She feels sorry for Simone. Colby says she has to tell her. They go to the caravan park where Simone is doing some marking. Bella tells her she did get the graffiti, explaining she was trying to impress someone and is sorry. Simone, somewhat distantly, thanks her for telling her and says she’ll see her later. After the pair have gone, Simone goes to her caravan and cries.
Dean and Willow run into each other again at the surf club. Willow suggests they have a catch-up but Dean has already arranged to meet Ziggy for pizza. Soon after, he and Ziggy are ensconced outside his caravan. Ziggy yawns and Dean reminds her she hasn’t slept, offering to take her home. Ziggy doesn’t want to face Maggie so Dean suggests she sleep there. Ziggy goes into the caravan and Dean calls after her, asking when she wants waking up. He gets no answer and finds she is already asleep. He texts Ben to let him know.
Bella and Colby arrive at the Diner and Colby encourages Bella to approach Raffy and Ryder. Bella tells them that what didn’t mean to get Raffy in trouble and it was dumb. Raffy somewhat standoffishly says Bella should have known she’d be blamed. Ryder cheerily says that it wasn’t dumb, just unorthodox, although Raffy remains unimpressed. Bella tells Colby she’s going home. Willow, who is at the counter, asks Colby what’s going on. At Salt, Brody and Simone comment on the disaster of a day. Brody tries to dismiss Bella’s actions but Simone thinks people will always see her as the scarlet woman: She doesn’t want to break up with Brody or take him away from his home, but she can’t be there anymore.
Colby finishes another call from Maggie and tells Willow and Bella that she wants to see them in the morning at 7.30. Bella goes to bed. Colby asks Willow about Dean. Willow tells him not to give her any more advice. Colby says her and Dean are good together and she needs to fight for it rather than waiting for the perfect moment. Next morning, Ziggy is initially bemused to wake up fully clothed in Dean’s bed but is pleased to find him cooking breakfast. Willow arrives, sees Ziggy coming out of Dean’s van, and hides.
Maggie and Simone are at the school with Maggie saying she’ll arrange the paperwork. She notes Simone’s been good for the students and shakes her hand. Simone encounters Colby and Bella. Bella apologises again. Simone is fine with her, but says that she’s resigning for a number of reasons and finishes today. She says she’s sorry she won’t see Bella achieve her dreams. Maggie gives Bella some cleaning materials and adds she also has two weeks’ detention. Bella starts cleaning the door…and Raffy and Ryder join her. At Salt, Brody tells Justin that Simone’s leaving and wants them to do long distance. Justin leaves as Simone arrives, saying Maggie waived the notice period so she doesn’t have a job. She intends to get a new job and place not too far away. Brody suggests there’s another way.
Willow comes into the Diner and accuses Colby of giving her bad advice again, explaining about seeing Ziggy with Dean. Colby reminds her Dean said nothing was going on and doesn’t think he’d lie to her. Meanwhile, Ziggy is working at the garage when Brody appears wanting to talk. He says he knows the last few months have been hard for her and he’s leaving with Simone. Ziggy sarcastically notes she won’t throw him a farewell party and wishes him a nice life.
Ziggy tracks Dean down on the beach and tells him the “good news” about Brody leaving, although she seems to have mixed feelings about it. Dean says Brody’s a fool for breaking up with her. He heads back to his caravan alone and finds Willow waiting in the bed, saying she wants to be with him now. Dean tells her to put some clothes on and walks out. Willow looks dejected.
