Is Raffy onto Justin and Leah? Could Leah and Justin ever be more than friends with benefits? Maggie agonises over the part she played in Ziggy’s marriage breakdown.
Extended Summary
Leah and Justin come downstairs again, having a whispered conversation about how Roo wasn’t supposed to be back yet. Roo, in the living area, calls out that she can hear them and explains she rang but they were obviously too busy to answer. Leah and Justin finally join her and she says she’s made coffee. Justin tries to leave but Leah says if she has to stay, so does he.
At the surf club, Ryder complains about losing at pool to both Raffy and Bella (who’s left). John and Marilyn come in and John wonders if Ben’s around. John checks Raffy’s okay with her siblings. Raffy says she is but misses them. They arrange to have breakfast in the morning, with Ryder inviting himself along.
Ben tells Maggie he’s going to meet John and Marilyn at the Diner to discuss adjustments to the house for Jett, inviting her along. Maggie wants to wait in for Ziggy. Ben thinks she’ll be fine but Maggie thinks she’s just distracting herself and reminds him she threw herself at Dean. She worries the next man she meets might not be such a gentleman.
Roo is somewhat bemused as Justin and Leah explain there’s no romance and no D&Ms. Ryder and Raffy arrive back. Raffy wonders why Justin’s there and Justin says he came to pick her up, which she doesn’t understand. Justin tries to usher her out as she asks why his t-shirt’s inside out. Roo says she spilt coffee on it and put it in the washer. Ryder wonders why Leah’s hair looks messy.
At the Diner, John gives Ben a list of adjustments from occupational health. Ben says they could have done most of it themselves but John explains Marilyn wanted it done by a professional. Marilyn says she keeps thinking of Jett at his graduation. Maggie says she keeps thinking of Ziggy on her wedding day, noting it’s not the same. Marilyn suggests they’ve both lost their dream.
Roo has finished telling Ryder and Leah about her experience with the aboriginal elders. She asks about new couplings and Ryder mentions himself and Raffy and Brody and Simone, which she didn’t know about. Leah goes upstairs and Roo wonders about Alf going on a fishing trip. Ryder mentions Martha’s visit, shocking her since she didn’t know.
At the Morgan house, Raffy asks Justin where the coffee stain is and he says he sponged it down. Raffy isn’t sure how he got to the house before she knew she was going there. Justin tries claiming he got the wrong end of the stick and that he knew she’d want to see Roo. She gets him to admit he was there with Leah before Roo arrived. Raffy considers the inside out t-shirt and messy hair and concludes he and Leah are doing it, then is shocked as she realises what she’s just said. Justin says it’s not a relationship, just a casual adult arrangement. Raffy understands the concept of friends with benefits. Justin says only she and Roo know. She promises not to say anything but teasingly calls it exciting.
Roo leaves a message for Martha, while Alf is out of range. She wonders why Alf didn’t say anything. Ryder says they only had five minutes on the satellite phone. Roo retorts it would take two seconds and wonders why Ryder didn’t say anything. Ryder says she didn’t stop talking for five minutes and then they were talking about Jett. He heads up to bed as Leah comes down. Leah says she’s always been a relationship girl but it’s never worked out for her. Roo says she was just going to ask why she wasn’t told about Martha.
Next morning, Justin finds Raffy coming out of the garage, She refuses to let him in, saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing, and asks if he’s seeing Leah. Justin says that’s private, like her and the garage. Raffy asks if he has feelings for her. Justin notes they didn’t want anyone knowing because they were afraid it would break the spell.
Raffy comes up behind John near the beach and says guess who. Marilyn says it’s someone they miss and John says it can’t be Raffy then. Raffy jokes about feeling homesick and John says not to enjoy living with the Morgans more than them. They comment that her medication seems to be working. She says Mason’s helping but it’s weird having her brother’s girlfriend as her tutor. Ryder joins them.
At the farm house, Roo has told Maggie about her experiences. Ben passes through on his way to meet John. Roo says she heard about Brody and Ziggy. Maggie wonders if it would have happened if they hadn’t got married so quickly and worried it’s because of the letter she wrote Ziggy about wanting to see her get married. Roo says they loved each other and it was up to them to make their marriage work.
At the Diner, Ryder amuses John, Marilyn and Raffy by building a pyramid out of paper cups, which collapses as soon as he finishes it. John goes to meet Ben. Raffy looks amused as Justin comes in and tells Leah he needs to talk to her, and it’s not a euphemism.
Leah and Justin head down to the beach. Justin tells her Raffy worked it out, so two people know. Leah isn’t bothered and doesn’t want to cool things. Ryder and Raffy see them together. Ryder notes they’ve been seeing a lot of each other lately but Raffy dismisses it and distracts him by asking him to help her study for her maths make-up. Inside the Diner, Roo talks to Marilyn about Jett, offering to go with her to see him. Marilyn says they have back to back meetings with the care team. Roo says to let her know when it’s best. She sees Leah and Justin come back together and gives a knowing look.
John has met Ben outside the surf club. Ben says there’s no room for a ramp at the front of the house so he’ll build it at the side. He can start work as soon as he gets the tools and materials. John says the army’s footing the bill. He’s still getting used to seeing Jett like this and takes the plans to show the care team. Maggie arrives and tells Ben that Ziggy’s sleeping it off. Back at the Stewart house, Roo asks Leah what she thinks of “Lustin”: Her and Justin’s names together. Leah insists they’re not a thing, just two individuals. Roo isn’t convinced.
Raffy finds Justin with Buddy outside the house and learns Brody is at the caravan park with Simone. Raffy finds it weird but Justin thinks it’s the new normal. Raffy thinks Justin is scared of falling in love again and says he’ll thank her when he and Leah are a thing. On the pier, Leah writes a blog talking about the rules of sex and says it’s possible to have great sex without an emotional attachment.
