Extended Summary

Tori comes into the Diner and is greeted by Irene and Leah, who guess she’s just done a graveyard shift. She asks for a kale and spinach smoothie instead of her usual cake, which Irene picks up on, and says there’s no news but she’s optimistic. She notes Marilyn listening in and guesses that she knows what’s going on; Leah admits she’s let it slip. Tori says Robbo is available without crowding her. She then asks after Raffy. At school, Raffy is having a mild panic attack; Ryder and Coco try to calm her and offer to get Maggie but she gets it under control. Abbie comes over and comments on two for one nappies. Ryder and Coco tell her to shut up. They file into class past Roo and Maggie, with it also being Maggie’s first lesson back.

Tori is sitting outside the house when Mason arrives home from his Critical Care exam. He wants to head straight back to hitting the books, saying he has no time for breakfast, but Tori insists he take an hour to relax, after which he’ll retain the information better. Mason concedes the wisdom of that and asks what she had in mind. Cut to them doing yoga on the headland. Mason doesn’t find it relaxing and asks Tori to test him. John comes past and warns them they might strain their “groins”. Mason irritably argues that you never say groins, just groin, and storms off. Tori confirms Mason is right.

Maggie is taking the new Year 12s and decides to end the lesson with some revision. Ryder gives an exaggerated account of the revision he supposedly did over the break while giving Raffy a consoling pat. Coco gives a more accurate explanation of what Mr. Duffy told them to do. Raffy looks somewhat overwhelmed and distracted but declines Maggie’s offer to sit near the front for help. Soon after, Maggie and Roo are talking in the office and Maggie says Raffy was quiet in class. Marilyn has texted Roo for information and Maggie says to say she’s doing as well as can be expected. She recalls an old student who had a head trauma and needed a lot of help, before suggesting Roo try to increase Raffy’s confidence in her lesson by asking her questions.

At the Diner, Marilyn tells Alf and Irene that Raffy’s doing well. Leah asks them about doing videos for the fundraiser so it’s not all about Maggie. Irene and Marilyn are reluctant, despite Leah pointing out Marilyn wanted Maggie to do one. However, Alf agrees so Irene decides they’ll do it too. She and Marilyn go to sort out their make-up; Alf turns down Leah’s offer for him to do the same. Meanwhile, Roo asks her class if they read Amanda Laurie’s novel over the holidays. Only Coco puts her hand up and they briefly discuss it with Coco also recommending The Ghost Boy, which Roo has to remind Ryder is an HSC text. She asks Raffy what she thought of the themes but Raffy says she hasn’t read it. Abbie mutters that she was too busy filming herself having fits before telling Roo she liked how the bushfire symbolised renewal.

At the end of the lesson, Raffy admits to Ryder and Coco that she has read the book but doesn’t remember anything about it: It was the same in Maths, as if there was a fog on her mind. They reassure her with Ryder saying they don’t call them the Three Amigos for nothing. Coco says that no-one calls them that. In the corridor, Roo confirms to Maggie that Raffy doesn’t seem to have any confidence and Abbie’s behaviour isn’t helping. They call Raffy over and tell her to say if she needs extra help. Noticing Abbie watching, Raffy quickly excuses herself. As she leaves with Ryder and Coco, Abbie asks if she’s having special needs classes.

At the surf club, Tori is on the phone to Justin, who is spending a couple of days in the city for Ava’s music recital. Mason has been trying to get her attention throughout and gets her to ask him another question. Raffy, Ryder and Coco turn up and they ask them about Year 12. They mention Abbie’s given Raffy a hard time; John overhears and thinks someone should sort her out. Raffy admits she’s forgetting things but Tori and Mason say it’s just until they get the medication right. At the Diner, Maggie and Roo quietly note that they need to give Raffy help whether she wants it or not. Leah has set up the camera nearby with Irene and Marilyn. Irene addresses the camera and introduces herself as a cancer survivor, saying she can remember as if it was yesterday when she was told she had cancer and how she just wanted to shut herself away, but she’s all right now and hopefully if people donate everyone can be the same. Maggie and Roo have come over during the speech and congratulate her.

Raffy, Coco and Ryder arrive back at school. Raffy realises she’s forgotten her pencil case and goes back to her locker. However, she looks at it dizzy and confused, as if she can’t remember which is hers. Abbie makes a quip about forgetting her pills. Raffy shoves her into a locker and onto the floor, repeatedly hitting her. Ryder and Coco run over and Raffy also hits Ryder. Roo and Maggie restore order. Abbie says Raffy went psycho, while Raffy doesn’t know what happened. Maggie tells Roo to get Abbie seen to and Raffy to go to the office, sending Ryder and Coco away. At the Diner, Mason insists on ordering a double shot of coffee from Leah, despite Tori thinking he needs to be relaxed to absorb information. Mason says if he fails Tori won’t be able to boss him around as an intern, but Tori reminds him she might be on maternity leave by then. She gets a call from Maggie; Irene and Marilyn listen in.

Tori looks Abbie over and says the nose isn’t broken; Abbie demands a second opinion and Tori says she can ask her parents about that when they get there before joining Raffy and Maggie. Tori thinks it must have been provoked but Maggie says Abbie’s the only one talking and to take Raffy home. Raffy asks if she will be expelled; Maggie can’t say for sure but doesn’t think it will go that far. Ryder and Coco come out of class in time to see Raffy apologise to Abbie and leave. She and Tori are greeted by Mason at home. Raffy tells him he can go study in his room; Mason says he’ll come out in an hour and have ice cream with her. Raffy admits to Tori she doesn’t remember anything between being at her locker and Abbie being on the floor. Tori wonders if aggression might be a side effect of the medication. She suddenly gets stomach cramps and asks Raffy to get her some water.

Coco and Ryder discuss Raffy’s outburst: They don’t blame her for hitting Abbie but Coco notes it’s out of character for her to fight with her fists instead of words. They wonder if Maggie will suspend her and agree to be there for her. Back at the house, Tori isn’t getting any better and Raffy fetches Mason. Tori says something might be wrong with the embryo transfer.
