Extended Summary

Justin and Brody are on the balcony at Salt. Justin still doesn’t have any plans and Brody asks him if he can see himself and Willow married with kids. Justin says there’s always been something going on and they’ve never had time just to stop and think. Brody suggests it’s still early days. Justin gets a call from John saying they’re bringing Raffy round and asks Brody to come. Brody says Raffy’s still not talking to him but Justin thinks a few days at John and Marilyn’s will have sorted it. They head back to the house where John, Marilyn, Raffy and Buddy are waiting in the drive. John and Marilyn want to come round the next day to see Raffy off on her first day to Year 12 and Brody offers to cook a special breakfast but Raffy doesn’t want a big deal and is especially dismissive of Brody, refusing to let him take her bag.

Mason is inside studying when Raffy comes through in a bad mood. Justin enters and tells Mason that Raffy’s still upset with Brody and they’ve got to fix it. Mason tries to get out of it, saying he has to study for his exams and Justin should call sort it out on his own. Justin thinks they should take one each and get them to talk. Mason reluctantly agrees to talk to Raffy. At the surf club, Ryder is cleaning up the gelato bar despite his shift having finished. Alf and Roo worry about him and he says he still hasn’t found out if he’s going to be allowed into Year 12 yet. Although they tell him he needs to wait, he insists he needs to know and rushes out.

At the Diner, Coco is trying to get Maggie to help Ryder but she says she’s done all she can. Alf, Roo and Ryder turn up and Ryder asks what’s going on. Maggie says he passed the exams but, although she’s told the Department, they haven’t given permission for him to go into Year 12. Ryder says he’ll turn up anyway and follow Raffy around but Maggie says if he comes back to school he’ll be in Year 11. Alf and Roo tell him he has to let Raffy know rather than surprising her tomorrow. At Salt, Justin is trying to get Brody to go see Raffy. Brody thinks she won’t forgive him and also accuses Justin of trying to distract himself from Willow. A courier turns up with a package; Brody explains it’s a medical bracelet for Raffy, which explains her condition and gives his mobile number. He asks Justin to give it to her but Justin convinces him to come along and give it to her himself.

Mason is talking to Raffy in the garden and tries to get her to stop being angry with Brody, pointing out he isn’t to blame for her having epilepsy. Ryder turns up and admits Raffy isn’t going to like what he has to say. He explains about failing Year 11 and tells her about the resits and still not getting permission, although there is a slim chance. Raffy is angry that he lied to her. Justin and Brody arrive back and find the three of them arguing, with Raffy telling Ryder he’s as bad as Brody. She storms inside; Justin follows and asks if she’s okay. Mason follows and explains. Justin says they can talk to the teachers and she’ll still have Coco. Raffy worries about having a fit in front of everyone, or worse, on her own. Brody, who has also come in, gives her the bracelet and says he’ll only be a phone call away. However, Raffy accuses him of trying to brand her and goes to her room.

Maggie is looking bemused at the posters of her outside the Diner as John and Marilyn arrive and say since the video went up there have been more ticket sales. John goes to order a bigger marquee while Marilyn says Maggie’s got a story people can relate to but Maggie says so have Marilyn and the other cancer suvivors. Coco arrives with bags of stationery, including some for Raffy. Inside, John tells Alf and Roo he’ll organise a bus run from Yabbie Creek and Marilyn insists he do it for free. Ryder comes in and blames them for Raffy hating him. Alf says he had to tell her and Ryder notes there’s only fourteen hours until school starts.

Justin is making a drink for Mason as Raffy toys with the bracelet. She says none of them get it but Justin says all of them are going through it with her: They’re trying to help her but she’s not helping herself. Epilepsy isn’t her whole life and she still has control over how she treats the people that love her. Raffy goes outside and finds Brody with Buddy. He offers to go but she tells him she hasn’t been fair on him and needed someone to blame for everything. She thanks him for the bracelet. Justin comes out and says he knew everything would be okay if they talked. However, Raffy says she isn’t going back to school.

Justin goes back inside and tells Mason about Raffy. He wants Mason to talk to her but Mason says he’s already behind on his study and will have to stay up late: It’s not a complete disaster if Raffy misses a few days of school but he has his exam in the morning. Justin understands and offers to quiz him; however, a quick look at Mason’s notes convinces him they should wait for Tori to get back. Next morning, Maggie and Coco are walking near the beach with Coco pleased to be starting Year 12. Roo and Ryder join them and Ryder comments on how Coco always gets to school early on the first day. Maggie tries to get him to come back in Year 11 but he refuses. Maggie then gets a call from the department.

John, Marilyn, Justin and Brody are having breakfast with Raffy in her garden but Raffy is still refusing to go to school. Coco and Ryder turn up, with Ryder now in uniform. He explains he’s going to school after all but Raffy is still upset he lied to her and walks away. Ryder follows, saying he did all the exams because of how much she means to him and asking for another chance. Soon after, Raffy is in uniform with the others as John and Marilyn say goodbye. Raffy gets Brody to help her put the bracelet on before leaving with her friends. Brody says now Justin has nothing to take his mind off Willow. Mason rushes out of the house in a panic: He overslept and is going to be late for his exam. Justin quickly takes the opportunity to offer to drive him.

Coco, Raffy and Ryder arrive at school. Coco is checking over her timetable and says at least one of them is with Raffy in every lesson. Raffy zones out, looking panicky, and barely notices Coco giving her the timetable. Ryder asks if she’s okay. Raffy says she’s not sure if she can do it.
