Raffy is diagnosed. Maggie’s cancer test results come back. John blames Ryder for Raffy’s medical crisis.
Extended Summary
Raffy is brought into hospital; Mason is shocked to see her as the ambulance officer explains she had a seizure. Leah and Ryder follow them in; Leah convinces Ryder to let the staff do their work while they call Justin. Meanwhile, Tori arrives at the farm house and tells Ben, Maggie, Ziggy and Coco she got Callan to let her deliver the news in person. They assume it’s bad news but she says the scans were clear, meaning Maggie has been cancer free for 100 days. She’ll need scans every six months for the next few years but it’s good news and the bruise was just a bruise. As everyone celebrates, Tori gets a text and hurries off. Coco is fine with them keeping it from her, knowing she needed to concentrate on her exam.
Tori arrives at the hospital where Mason is doing the checks on Raffy. She is semi-conscious, responding to instructions and talking a bit. Tori gives Mason the opportunity to step out but he insists on staying. She orders a head CT. Meanwhile, at Salt, Brody gets a call from Ziggy and invites the family there for a celebratory dinner. He tells Justin about Maggie getting the all clear. Justin suggests it was a mistake cancelling the TV gig and Brody can still change his mind. Then Justin gets the call from Leah about Raffy and they both rush off.
Raffy has come round fully as Justin and Brody join Tori and Mason with her. They joke that it’s an extreme way to avoid exams. Raffy is worried that she scared Ryder but they tell her to concentrate on herself. Leah, Ryder, John and Marilyn are in the corridor outside. Tori emerges and asks Ryder what happened. Ryder says she started choking and went outside for air, then had the fit. Tori asks if there were any signs she was ill before that. Ryder recalls her forgetting their conversation and complaining of a headache. Tori rushes back to the room where Raffy has suddenly deteriorated. Mason says there’s still a queue for the scan but Tori says they can’t wait: She thinks Raffy has a bleed on the brain.
A while later, Justin and Brody have joined the others in the corridor as Raffy is brought back. Tori says the scan confirmed the bleed: Raffy will be placed in an induced coma and will need an operation. Justin thinks someone missed something but Tori says the scans were clear and the haematoma wouldn’t have shown up. She tries to get them to go home and rest. Ryder is reluctant but Leah says they can come back in the morning and Marilyn promises to call if anything changes. Meanwhile, the Astonis approach Salt, with Coco planning to try one of the dishes Maggie inspired. Brody calls Ziggy to tell her he’s not there, explaining about Raffy. He tells her to stay with her family but Ziggy insists on joining him, explaining to the others.
Justin, Tori and Mason are around Raffy, who is stable. Tori and Mason promise to watch her overnight. Ziggy turns up; Brody updates her and they go to join the others. Marilyn is also insisting on staying in the corridor overnight and thinks she should have noticed something was wrong with Raffy. John says she couldn’t have done and Tori agrees. John goes to get coffee. In the closed Diner, Ryder gets a text from Coco asking for information. Leah tells him it wasn’t his fault and thinks with Tori looking after her Raffy will be all right. Ryder says Raffy’s been the best friend to him and has always had his back, thinking he should have noticed.
Next morning, Justin visits Tori in her office and she confirms she hasn’t slept. An alarm goes off on her phone and she admits it’s for an IVF injection but thinks she can’t worry about that now. Justin says Raffy wouldn’t be happy if Tori missed out on a baby because of her. After looking at a photo of herself and her siblings on her desk, Tori gets the kit out and takes the injection. She heads to Raffy’s room where Mason is worried about her obs and raised blood pressure. He announces a pupil’s blown. Theatres are full so Tori orders a burr hole kit and tells Brody and Ziggy to clear the room. Checking the scans, she drills the hole and removes the clot. She emerges to report that the swelling was worse than thought: Raffy could have brain damage and they won’t know until she comes off the ventilator, which could be days or more. John decides he and Marilyn should go.
Ryder is staring out the door at the Diner while Leah tries to console him. Ben, Maggie and Coco turn up and ask if there’s any news. Ryder says he’s going to the hospital in a bit and suggests Coco come with him. John and Marilyn come in and Ryder asks about Raffy. John angrily says that because of him she’s had holes drilled in her skull and could have brain damage. Ryder runs out, upset. Later, Marilyn scolds John, saying Ryder feels bad enough. John says he needs to learn actions have consequences but Marilyn thinks Raffy being in hospital has taught him that. Coco comes in and says she couldn’t find Ryder; Leah says he’s not answering his phone. John agrees to help look for him.
Ryder runs along the beach. He stops by a tree and looks at a photo of himself, Raffy and Coco on his phone. Bringing up a conversation with Raffy, he texts saying “I’m sorry.” The message comes up unnoticed on the phone by her bedside; Tori, Justin, Brody, Mason and Ziggy surround her, holding a vigil.
