Mason is blindsided by Dempsey’s revelation. Robbo and John clash over how to run the gym. Is Tori’s perfect donor right under her nose?
Extended Summary
Colby is looking at a letter when Robbo comes home, having been in the city signing the last of the paperwork to become gym owner. Colby gives him another letter: Notification of Ebony’s hearing. He says Jasmine hasn’t been called to testify and notes that that’s that, although he doesn’t seem too happy. Robbo ropes him into helping him set up the gym. Outside, Tori finds Leah sitting alone and says she heard about Hunter leaving from Irene. She also says she’s having second thoughts about a private sperm donor and rejects Leah’s suggestion to ask a friend. As she makes to go, she bumps into Colby and Robbo, spilling her coffee down Colby. They invite her to the gym but she gets a phone call from Mason and tells him she’ll be right there.
Tori meets Mason and Dempsey in the hospital corridor. Mason says Dempsey was in a lot of pain earlier and Dempsey says she’s had lower back pain for a while and ignored it. Tori takes them to a treatment room and asks about the bleeding and the pain. Dempsey says at its worst the pain is 7 or 8 out of 10 but at the moment it’s a 3. She wonders if it’s an ectopic. Tori says they’ll need an ultrasound to be sure but it’s unlikely. She’ll have to do some tests but they’ll listen to the heartbeat first.
Robbo and Colby turn up at the gym. Robbo is impressed with it and tells Colby to keep out of the office, since it’s for staff only. He asks Colby’s help in setting up the new sound system. Later, Marilyn has turned up and wishes Robbo luck, asking about his plans, suggesting new equipment, new schedules and renovations. A burst of music from Colby’s work heralds the new sound system but Robbo says that’s all: He doesn’t think they need a reopening because the clients don’t care who the owner is. If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.
Tori is doing a doppler scan for the baby’s heartbeat. Dempsey worries that it’s taking too long, convinced she’s miscarrying, but then they hear the heartbeat and Tori says it’s nice and strong. Mason is ecstatic to hear it for the first time but Dempsey looks more freaked out than anything. At the gym, John tries to get Robbo to put up a sign saying under new management and wear a uniform, but Robbo says he’s going to run it his way. He gets a text as John leaves. Colby comes through but gets no thanks for fitting the system, since Robbo’s just got a text from Mason saying he can’t take the boxercise class because his girlfriend’s in hospital (Colby is surprised he has one). Robbo doesn’t know who’s qualified and wonders if he could call Willow, saying he’s the owner, not a trainer. He isn’t keen to change the schedule.
Leah finishes a phone call with Alf at the Diner, telling Irene and Marilyn that Hunter got off okay and Alf’s on his way back. John comes in complaining about Robbo not announcing the new management and feels he needs a push. Marilyn has an idea how to show their support. She and John go to the boxercise class on the headland, although John insists he’s just going to watch. However, when Robbo turns up, he announces there isn’t going to be a class today. He privately comments to John and Marilyn that he hopes the clients come back. They ask him again about making changes but he says he needs to get his head around running the gym first and it still doesn’t feel like his.
Tori rejoins Mason and Dempsey and tells them the scans showed everything is fine. She gives them an ultrasound photo. After she’s gone, Mason continues to be excited about seeing and hearing their baby for the first time. However, Dempsey is increasingly panicky, eventually babbling that she can’t do it and doesn’t want the baby. Mason tries to talk to her but she tells him to get out. Tori finds him in the corridor with the ultrasound photo. He tells her what Dempsey said, sadly saying that he did everything she wanted and it wasn’t enough, and he’s going to lose both her and the baby. Tori suggests Dempsey may feel different in the morning.
Colby turns up at the gym with pizza to celebrate Robbo’s first day. Robbo belatedly thanks him for his help as they sit in the office. Colby says he’s thinking of going to Ebony’s hearing to see her sent down: He feels she crossed the line by impersonating Bella. Robbo tells him to get Ebony out of his head and focus on what’s important to him. Colby goes back to his flat and opens his laptop. He deletes the conversation he had with Ebony when she posed as Bella, then leaves another message for Bella saying he’s still looking for her.
At the Diner, John tells Irene, Leah and Marilyn he’s had an idea to help Robbo and needs help. Tori comes in and Leah approaches to ask her for help with John’s idea but also takes the opportunity to suggest Tori ask a doctor to be donor, since they’d be across the checks. Tori isn’t keen on asking a colleague. Next morning, Tori and Mason go to the hospital. Mason tries to talk about Dempsey but Tori is distracted staring at two male doctors, Leah’s suggestion ringing in her ears. Mason goes to Dempsey’s room but she isn’t there. Tori finds she’s discharged herself and later learns she took unpaid leave. Mason calls her flatmate and learns she packed her things and left during the night. He hits on the idea of asking Rhea where she is and hurries off.
Alf, John, Marilyn and Tori turn up at the surf club, where Colby brings Robbo out of the gym to see them. They welcome him to Summer Bay’s business community and John gives him a desk plaque reading “Ryan ‘Robbo’ Shaw Owner/Manager” to help the gym feels like his. Robbo is grateful. He talks privately to Tori saying he wouldn’t have settled in Summer Bay if she hadn’t had his back when no-one else did. They hug. As he goes to join the others, Tori looks after him with interest, her conversation with Leah about asking a friend to be a donor running through her head.
