Extended Summary

Justin brings Dean a beer at Salt and tells him not to be ashamed of being afraid of going to prison, since it just makes him smart. However, they can figure something out. Dean thinks Justin’s only doing it to keep Willow happy and Justin doesn’t disagree. Later, Justin notes that although things don’t look good, Dean has a chance if he can show he’s turned his life around: Getting a job and finding somewhere to stay. He is exasperated to learn Dean didn’t get a lawyer since he confessed, telling him to get on to legal aid and also saying the garage job is still there.

Tori runs into Mason on the beach after doing a double shift. Mason explains he’s waiting for Dempsey: They’re going to a family planning meeting even though they’re not sure if they’re keeping the baby, and he comments on having a baby with a stranger. Dempsey waves to him from up on the headland and he goes to join her, asking Tori to keep quiet. Tori goes into the Diner and tells Leah that Mason’s comment has left her a bit down. Leah is surprised that she hasn’t told her family yet so Tori decides to do it tonight.

Tori comes home to be greeted by Justin, Brody and Ziggy. They discuss Ava visiting and Tori says they need a family meal together; Willow has gone to visit Russell. Justin protests that he needs to help Dean but agrees to attend. Outside, Mason and Dempsey are just arriving back, having been told they have five weeks to decide what they’re going to do. Mason is a bit uncomfortable with being referred to as the baby’s father while Dempsey doesn’t want to talk and quickly leaves. Tori comes out and asks Mason if he’s around for dinner, saying the rest of the family will be there except Raffy, who’s doing something with Marilyn. Mason continues to talk about the situation with Dempsey, saying it’s not ideal. Tori accuses him of being offensive.

Brody and Ziggy are getting ready in the flat. Ziggy thinks Tori has another reason for the dinner while Brody is worried about Justin helping Willow and Dean. Ziggy tells him they only have half an hour so should get undressed, kissing him. Later, Mason apologises to Tori, who admits she overreacted. She says it’ll be better when things are in the open; Mason thinks she wants him to tell everyone. Justin, Brody and Ziggy come in before she can answer, curious about the news and wondering if Tori has a new boyfriend, suggesting Robbo and Colby. Mason announces that Dempsey’s pregnant, getting a barrage of questions. Tori cuts in to announce she’s having a baby via IVF. There’s a stunned silence and she walks out.

Dean is playing pool on his own at the surf club while looking up legal aid on his phone. Alf comes out of the office and Dean says he’ll go but Alf says he can stay: It’s up to the court to punish him. Meanwhile, Tori is sat outside the house. Justin joins her, saying everyone’s shocked and Ziggy’s gone to get dessert. He says Ava’s the best thing to happen to him but isn’t sure about Tori doing it solo, thinking she can wait for the right man. Tori says that hasn’t worked and she has fertility issues. If the right man comes along afterwards, he’ll love them both. Justin says she’ll make a good mother.

Ziggy is getting an apple pie at Salt and sees Dean out on the balcony. He refers to her as his work wife and she reminds him they don’t work together anymore, suggesting he takes the shifts and saying they actually do need help. Dean says he’s not used to people helping him. Ziggy insists on staying and buying him a drink. Back at the house, the Morgans are watching television. Tori decides to turn in, since Brody notes Ziggy’s taking forever with dessert, after getting a few words of support. Justin and Brody turn their attention to Mason, giving him support too. Mason notes he’s still at uni and they point out Tori was as well when she had to take them on.

Next morning, at the surf club, Justin thanks Alf for agreeing to his idea. Dean comes in and says he got on to legal aid. With prompting from Justin, Alf gives Dean his caravan back but warns him he’ll be out if there’s trouble. Dean accepts the job with Justin and they awkwardly shake hands. Meanwhile, Mason finds Tori outside the house. He recalls her raising them but Tori says they raised each other and he and Brody would make good parents too. She assures him she thinks he can do it and he calls Dempsey.

Brody wakes Ziggy by making a noise preparing breakfast. He is unsympathetic about her late night, since she only sent a text saying she’d been caught up and not to wait up, and isn’t happy about her helping Dean after he skimmed Salt. Ziggy walks off in a huff while Brody is also angry. Meanwhile, Mason has set up coffee and cakes in the garden as Dempsey turns up. He tells her he wants the baby and will give her any help she wants. Dempsey is annoyed, accusing him of making the decision for her. She walks away, saying she’ll let him know what she decides.
