Extended Summary

Outside the bait shop, John complains to Alf about Marilyn going to meet Ty’s mum behind everyone’s back. Alf says that she means well. John is dismissive of someone who abandoned their child, prompting Alf to suggest he stop throwing stones near his glass house. John accepts the point but says Ty’s finally in a good place and this could upset things. In the city, Marilyn meets Ty’s mother Jodi, who recognises her from her description. Jodi wonders why she called, hoping Ty has changed his mind. Marilyn says Ty doesn’t know she’s there. Jodi admits she can’t even picture him after this long.

In the Diner, Leah is having an annoyed phone conversation with VJ. She tells Tori that he has a new girlfriend, Destiny, that she had to find out about from social media. Tori asks about being a single mother and Leah says it was a challenge but she’s proud of him. Tori says she’s thinking about having a child on her own. Later, Leah seems very uncertain about the idea. Tori says she’s not sure yet but hoped Leah would be more supportive. Leah says she didn’t have a choice about raising VJ alone. Tori says she doesn’t want to miss out and ends up leaving annoyed.

John comes home to find Raffy and Ty listening to loud music. They wonder about Marilyn. John says she had to go to Yabbie Creek. He tries to get them to turn the music down, then ends up putting a baseball cap on back to front and doing a rap before saying they’ll start on dinner. In the city, Marilyn shows Jodi a photo of Ty on her phone. She explains about his music and, without giving details, admits they had some trouble recently but got past it, saying Ty’s beeen with them two months. Jodi clams up when Marilyn asks why she left him and hurriedly leaves.

That evening, Leah meets Tori at Salt and apologises for being a bad friend, explaining she just wants to be sure. Tori says if she met “the one” it’d be years before they had children and she’s ready now. Leah points out that she’d be asking any future boyfriend to take on the child. Tori says she did that with Ash, even though it was hard, and she’s willing to step back from her career to be a mum. Next morning, Ben and Ziggy are getting ready to clean the farm house, having already separated the cutlery and shelves. Maggie rings up to check on them and Ziggy calls out, jokingly asking Ben if she should use the same cloth to clean the toilet and the kitchen surfaces. She and Ben get down to work.

Raffy and Ty discuss the fact that Marilyn didn’t come home and assume that she and John had a fight. John emerges and gives them money to go and get breakfast. They asks about Marilyn and John says he misheard: Marilyn actually went to the city and stayed overnight. After they’ve gone, John calls Marilyn, saying he needs to be able to tell Raffy and Ty something that isn’t a complete lie. However, Marilyn is meeting Jodi again and rings off when she turns up.

At the hospital, Maggie is packing her bag. Tori comes in to check on her. Maggie is worried she’s forgotten something but confirms she has her medication. Ben turns up and Tori adds that the most important thing is for them to avoid infection and she’s there if they need her. As they walk to the lift, Ben asks Maggie how she is: She says she’s nervous but excited and basically a mess. Ben assures her everything will be fine. Tori goes to the Diner where Leah tells her she’s got some folate-enriched milk just in case. She also says she’ll be there for Tori if she does go ahead with it and any kid would be lucky to have her as a mum. Tori decides to make an appointment with the fertility specialist.

Ty and Raffy walk on the beach. Ty wonders if John and Marilyn have had a fight because of him. Raffy quips that he’s not that important and says it’s probably to do with bills. Meanwhile, Jodi shows Marilyn a photo of Ty when he was a little boy. Marilyn says she obviously loves him. Jodi explains Ty’s grandparents Sam and Doreen never liked her, seeing her as taking their son and grandchild away from them. When Ty’s father died, she had no family, job, money or home so left Ty with them intending it to be temporary. She went back a year later having got a job and place to stay but they refused to let her take him or see him, threatening to fight her if she tried to take him and getting a lawyer involved. She says she should have fought for him and has to live with the decision.

Ziggy pins up a “Welcome home” banner as Ben and Maggie arrive home. However, Maggie shrinks away slightly when she approaches. Ziggy explains Coco is on her way. Ben tries to put his arm round Maggie but she jumps back, telling him not to touch her. Ben shows her the separate drawers for her plates, cups and cutlery and where they’re keeping her anti-rejection pills and Ziggy shows they’ve set up a separate shelf for her in the fridge for things she can’t share. She has also made a 100 days chart and put it on the fridge. Maggie seems uncomfortable and Ziggy says they don’t have to use it. Maggie says it’s okay and crosses off the first eight days but seems somewhat overwhelmed by how many are left.

Jodi explains that she went to the house on Ty’s sixteenth birthday, knowing his grandparents couldn’t keep them apart, only to learn his grandmother was dead, his grandfather was in a home and he was in foster care. She says she can see he landed on his feet with Marilyn but can’t stand him thinking she doesn’t want him. Marilyn awkwardly says it’s up to Ty whether or not he sees her, but Jodi asks Marilyn to convince him, saying she needs to see him.
