Kat and Robbo go on the run, but tragedy strikes. Ben gives his approval to Brody and Ziggy, while Coco and Ryder admit their feelings. Maggie’s life is in danger.
Extended Summary
Kat shows up for work, surprising Murray. She convinces him McCarthy asked her to come back. She places a phantom phone call and informs Murray that there has been an accident, with a potential chemical spill. Murray accepts she is unable to attend because of the pregnancy. Holding the fort, she springs Robbo from his cell. He is reluctant to escape, fearful he has messed up her life enough. Kat lets him know how much she loves him, and wants that life he talked about. They hurry to escape…but Ash catches them. There is a stand off. Kat pleads with him to let them go, but Ash cannot watch the mother of his unborn child disappear. He refuses to back down, so Robbo whacks him.
There is real concern for Hunter after his public humiliation – he receives lots of support, but it affords him little comfort. Olivia is hiding away in the Diner. She is hoping for sympathy, but Irene is too disappointed in her – she tells Liv to figure things out, and tell Hunter the truth. Olivia is left feeling alone. Jennifer points out to Hunter that he doesn’t know what’s going on inside Olivia’s head. When Olivia texts Hunter asking to talk, he is left buoyed by Jennifer’s advice. Hunter and Olivia meet up, and although Olivia has the opportunity to reveal her betrayal, she devastates Hunter in another way…instead admitting that she doesn’t believe he is the one for her any more. Jennifer is there for a lost Hunter, as a friend. Olivia shows up on Axel’s doorstep, though it is unclear if she is starting a new life, or hiding from her old one.
At the relaunch party, Ziggy convinces a hesitant Brody to dance. Brody makes a speech, thanking everyone for their support, and for the second chance he has been given with Salt. Brody gives a special shout out to Ben for giving him the push he needed. Ben then gives his blessing to Brody and Ziggy, who express their feelings for each other at last.
Things are awkward between Ryder and Coco, who admits to Raffy she is inexperienced with boys. Ryder explains to Roo he has never liked anyone as much as Coco. Neither is confident enough to make the first move, until a despairing Raffy orders them to dance together. Young love finally blossoms. Maggie points out the pair to Ben, who apparently has another daughter to worry about now. Maggie grows light-headed, putting it down to the champagne. She quietly heads out for some air, only to double over in pain and collapse…unconscious and close to the water’s edge, with the tide coming in…
Ash wakes locked in the cell, a caged animal. Murray is bewildered by the turn of events. Ash is desperate to race after Kat and Robbo but he’s concussed – Murray forces him to go to hospital. Speeding along, Robbo checks Kat is sure about burning her life like this? Kat is adamant, she doesn’t want to wait thirty years to be with him. They discuss the safe house… when a car comes out of nowhere. There is a huge crash – the impact is substantial, leaving few signs of life. Robbo is injured, but Kat is left much worse – she’s losing blood, and fast. Robbo calls the ambos and goes to check on the driver of the other car. She too, is alive, but injured. Kat drifts in and out, despite Robbo’s valiant attempts to stem the bleeding. As they hear the ambulance sirens grow closer Kat begs Robbo to run – they won’t have a future if he is back in prison. Reluctantly, letting her know how much he loves her, Robbo takes off into the night. All hell breaks loose when Kat… and then Jasmine, the driver of the other car, are rushed into the emergency ward. Ash fears for Kat and his child – Tori informs him that the staff are doing all they can to save both Kat and the baby. At the hospital, Kat is taken into surgery in an effort to stop her internal bleeding, but after an agonizing wait, a numb Tori has the gut wrenching task of telling Ash that they were unable to save both Kat and the baby.
The community learn the shocking news, comforting one another by forming a vigil. Robbo reaches the safe house, injured, but otherwise okay. Tori shows Ash into the mortuary, where Kat and his child – a blanket in a tiny cot – are laid out. Ash has the heartbreaking task of saying goodbye to them both. Tori is left deeply worried for him, especially when Ash darkly swears to make Robbo pay.
