Kat & Ash’s investigation reveals a shocking truth about Robbo. Hunter grows closer to Jennifer. Eco-warrior Coco targets Alf and Irene.
Extended Summary
Hunter stops Jennifer outside the gym and asks what happened. Jennifer says Mason kissed her. Hunter says that doesn’t sound like Mason but remains sympathetic; he offers to walk her home but she declines. Hunter goes over to Mason and asks what he’s playing at. Mason says Jennifer was the one who kissed him. John comes over and asks what’s going on. Hunter says they were just discussing Mason taking part in his video so John offers to close up for him. Meanwhile, in the Diner flat, Kat is on the phone to Ash. With a number of apparently innocent remarks, she manages to communicate that Robbo is listening in and watches her all the time, which is making it hard for her to get away to check the safe house. After she ends the call, Robbo comments on the amount of attention Ash is giving them. Kat takes the opportunity to suggest she meets him for breakfast to tell him to back off.
At the Diner, Coco presents Alf and Roo with a set of sheets that she says proves there is overfishing. Alf seems unimpressed and, when Coco says 90% of large fish species have disappeared, he tells her to go find them. Raffy and Ryder make supportive noises from the next table and Alf asks Ryder where he’s planning to sleep. Irene advises them to leave before Coco really gets going. Roo insists Ryder come with them, since they’re trying to normalise his sleep patterns. Next morning, Kat meets Ash outside the Diner with Robbo in tow; they have a bit of trouble shaking him off. Kat says they’re going to a new café in Yabbie Creek. As he sees them off, Robbo slaps a bug on the car.
Hunter meets Jennifer at the surf club and checks she’s all right. John comes over saying he has an idea for the proposal video. Hunter shushes him and also says they’re in the middle of something. When they’re alone again, he tells Jennifer that Mason’s version of events differed from hers and asks if she’d be willing to meet with him. Jennifer says she will if Hunter sticks around. Meanwhile, Ash and Kat are approaching the safe house, with Robbo listening in on the conversation. Kat mentions the keys she found in Robbo’s bag. They use them to let themselves in but aren’t sure what they expect to find, although the keys do prove a connection between Robbo and Novak.
Ben, Maggie and Coco arrive at the Diner and Irene privately asks Ben what Coco’s latest crusade is. Coco protests to her parents that she’s just trying to protect the eco-system. They agree that’s worthwhile but ask her not to get them offside with Alf again, pointing out that he can’t change the whole fishing industry and she should pick her battles. As they talk, Coco watches Irene, paying particularly attention to the straws on the counter. Meanwhile, Mason turns up at the surf club and Jennifer goes over, with Hunter watching from a distance. Mason says he’s sorry if he sent out the wrong signals and explains his girlfriend died recently and he’s struggling to move on. Jennifer relaxes at the news and says it’s fine. She rejoins Hunter and says they’ve agreed to forget about it. She asks him to have a coffee with her. He agrees but says they’ll go elsewhere so John doesn’t accost him.
Ash and Kat go back to the car, and thus back into earshot of Robbo’s bug, having found nothing in the safe house but curious about the keys. They mention Robbo’s bag. Ash thinks they need to go back to the beginning. Kat says they have to go back to Summer Bay and rings Murray for help. Robbo doesn’t hear this: He is searching his car and finds the bag missing. Kat meets Murray on some grassland and he gives her a copy of Robbo’s file; he is unhappy about Shepherd taking over. Kat takes the file to Ash and shows him the CCTV photo of Robbo and Dylan; they assumed Robbo was an innocent bystander. They notice he keeps hold of the tackle box throughout and Kat notes they assumed it went overboard. The GPS record of the boat shows where the engine cut out and hence probably where Robbo and Dylan fought.
Hunter and Jennifer are at the Diner. Jennifer asks him if he’s enjoying being out of school, saying she can’t wait to leave. Hunter asks her if she’s planning to carry on the boxing classes and she notes she was really interested in self defence, vaguely confirming that she’s having some problems. Hunter notes she had a mean girl reputation at school. Jennifer says she was just being honest before admitting she took her problems out on people. Hunter gives her his number and tells her to call him in future, saying they’re friends now. Coco comes in and asks Irene about what the Diner does for recycling, suggesting a compost bin or worm farm and giving her a load of research she’s done. Irene tries to appeal to Alf for help but, smirking, he suggests Coco has a point. Irene says she’s sure it’s important but she doesn’t have time to deal with it now.
Robbo leaves a message on Kat’s voicemail asking if she’ll be home for lunch. Kat is out on a boat with Ash when she gets the message. She says that what she tells him will depend on what they find. Meanwhile, Raffy and Ryder arrive at the farm in response to a summons from Coco. She says the internet is full of scary facts but people like Irene and Alf don’t want to hear them…which is what social media’s for. They get their phones out.
Kat has stopped the boat by the spot where she’s calculated the box should be but still doesn’t have much confidence. She and Ash hold a metal detector over the side and pick something up. Ash dives down in a wetsuit and comes back up with the box. He opens it, finding cash and guns. Kat notices a hit list showing herself and her former partner who was killed. Ash finds a passport and shows it to her: It has Robbo’s photo and the name Beckett Reid. Kat is horrified.
