Extended Summary

Justin and Scarlett arrive back at her caravan in a passionate clinch. They sit down on the bed, unbuttoning their tops…but then he calls her Phoebe. They stop and he apologises, lying back on the bed and saying he’s an idiot. Scarlett steps away for a moment to gather her thoughts. When she looks back, she sees Justin is asleep. At the farmhouse, Ben and Maggie knock on Ziggy’s door but she refuses to answer. Ben suggests they wait until morning. Maggie isn’t keen on letting things fester overnight but when Ziggy continues to ignore them she concedes defeat.

Next morning, John is examining an egg yolk suspended in water, trying to tell if it’s gone off or not. Marilyn makes a loaded comment about it depending on the age of the chicken and John insists he wasn’t making a point. Marilyn says she’s still thinking about it but thinks having a baby would be risky. She says she thought they were happy. John agrees but says they could be happier. Meanwhile, Ziggy is lying in bed but suddenly resolves herself and gets out her laptop. As something prints, she dresses and puts her make-up on. Ben and Maggie are having breakfast; Maggie notes that it looks like she’s going to accept that it’s not a phase and she and Ziggy are never going to have a good relationship. Ziggy walks through and says she’s going out, ignoring Ben when he reminds her she’s grounded.

Scarlett is sitting outside her caravan when Justin emerges the worse for wear. He can’t remember what happened and wonders if they did anything. Scarlett tells him they just slept. Justin thinks something was happening and Scarlett tells him he passed out when they got back to the van. She says she’s going to work and turns down Justin’s offer to walk her. At the Diner, Alf and Leah are discussing the shooting at Phoebe’s concert. Scarlett overhears some of it and says she’s heard Phoebe’s name mentioned, confirming it was from Justin. She looks Phoebe up on her phone and finds an article about her new romance.

Ziggy turns up at Salt and gives Justin her resume, saying she spoke to Brody about a job before but now she’s serious. Justin tells her they’re selling so it’s probably best not to take anyone else on, but agrees to call her if someone doesn’t turn up or dies. After Ziggy’s gone, Scarlett comes in and asks Justin if he knew about Phoebe’s new boyfriend. Justin admits he did but says that wasn’t the only reason for his actions and he wants to move on. Scarlett says it was a rebound and nothing to do with her. At the surf club, Alf and John discuss the fact Marilyn still hasn’t made a decision about trying for a baby. Roo overhears and is somewhat shocked. Irene comes in with Luc and asks Roo to look after her. Alf instead volunteers John for the job and before John can venture an opinion, Irene has dumped Luc and her things on him and walked off.

Ziggy turns up at the Diner where Maggie is a customer. She says she’s keeping her side of the bargain then turns to Leah, saying she knows she didn’t make the best impression before but is serious about the job now. She gives Leah her resume. After she’s gone, Leah asks if the change was down to Maggie and Maggie replies that it was all Ziggy. Leah senses a melancholy touch and Maggie says she had post-natal depression and never really bonded with Ziggy. Leah says she’s had difficulties with VJ but they’ve got on better since she started treating him like an adult. On the beach, Justin and Ben have finished a surf. Justin tells Ben about Ziggy’s visit and says there might be some work for her at the garage if Ash agrees. Scarlett comes over and Justin sends Ben away. She tells him about him calling her Phoebe but says it’s good he did since neither of them are ready. They observe that they can stand each other now so maybe they should try and be friends. However, the way they are looking at each other doesn’t seem entirely platonic.

A surfer passes John looking after Luc and calls him grandpa. However, John tells Alf he’s remembering some of the tricks he used to use with Casey and thinks he could actually handle looking after a baby full-time. He asks Alf for help when Luc’s nappy needs changing but Alf quickly backs off. At the caravan park, Marilyn and Roo are chatting about the issue. Marilyn says she and John are finally in a good place after a terrible year and she doesn’t want to risk it. She wonders if Roo would have got pregnant on purpose. Roo isn’t sure but says she was looking forward to it. Marilyn worries about being the oldest parents in the playground and not being around to see the child grow up. Roo suggests it could be a good thing.

Ziggy comes home to find Ben and Justin waiting for her. Justin offers her a few hours’ work a week at the garage working behind the desk. Ziggy happily agrees and Justin tells her to come in next week. After he’s gone, Ziggy asks Ben if he put him up to it but Ben says it was prompted by Ziggy dropping the resume off at Salt. However, he warns her not to play the victim since their argument was prompted by her stealing his credit card. He notes she said some hurtful things to Maggie and suggests a ceasefire. Later, Maggie approaches Ziggy in her room. Ziggy gives her some flowers she’s been wrapping and says she’ll pay Ben back with interest. Maggie says she doesn’t have to and promises to treat her like an adult.

Marilyn arrives home to find John looking after Luc; he notes he changed her nappy but can’t get her to eat. Marilyn is angry at her being there however, accusing John of trying to pressure her. She says it’s not like fostering and they couldn’t give a baby of their own back, and seeing him with Luc has just made her realise how selfish them having a baby would be. She walks out.
