Wally’s wife reacts to his news. Is Coco’s problem a cry for help? Raffy tries to repair her friendship.
Extended Summary
Ben and Coco enter the surf club with Ben trying to convince Coco of the turnaround in Ziggy, saying she and Maggie have gone to the movies. Ben asks when Coco wants him to pick her up but she says she’ll just take the bus. He tries to kiss her goodbye, prompting hilarity from Jennifer and her cronies who are sat nearby. Coco then bumps into VJ and accuses him of dating Ziggy, which he denies, bemused and a bit annoyed. Coco calls Raffy and asks for help. At the Palmer house, John is trying to contact Marilyn. Raffy comes in on the phone, arranging to meet Coco on the beach. John tells her to cancel that so she invites Coco round instead. John asks Raffy to look after Luc while he goes and finds Marilyn, and gets a short update on Mason.
Olivia is amused to see Hunter dressed up in a suit to meet Wally. He thinks it might make things less awkward but Olivia tells him he shouldn’t try to be something he’s not. Wally calls to say he’s in town and Hunter says he’ll meet him after he’s got changed. When he turns up at the surf club, he has changed into plaid. He chats about the trip times from the city, his trial exams and a friend being sick, all of which Wally merely makes polite noises about, and when he asks Wally what he’s been doing Wally simply says he’s been busy. He doesn’t have any suggestions as to what to do so Hunter suggests a beer or a walk on the beach. Wally becomes interested on learning they can get to the lighthouse.
At the Diner, Marilyn is telling Leah about her latest argument with John. Leah doesn’t think there was anything manipulative about John’s actions and he was just being insensitive. Marilyn doesn’t think they need a baby. John comes in full of apologies but Marilyn is more bothered about the fact he’s left Luc with Raffy and storms out, leaving him trailing her. Back at the Palmer house, Coco tells Raffy about how Ben embarrassed her and she embarrassed herself over VJ, cutting Raffy off when she tries to talk about Mason. John and Marilyn come in and while Raffy is a bit bemused by the panic, she understands she’s relieved as babysitter and the girls head out. John, slightly amused, asks Marilyn if he should call Irene to collect Luc so she doesn’t feel pressured. Marilyn says she’ll just go and put her down.
Raffy is setting up camp on the beach but Coco isn’t comfortable there or wearing swimmers. Raffy convinces her to discard the towel she has around herself to go for a swim. Coco is distracted by VJ, who she describes as gorgeous, and doesn’t seem to register when Raffy says she’s gorgeous too. Jennifer approaches VJ and makes a “loser” sign at Coco, prompting her to cancel the swim. Raffy sees that Jennifer has simply got VJ to take a photograph of her and her friends. At the Diner, Olivia is telling Leah that Hunter wants the sort of bond with Wally that he had with Zac. Hunter and Wally come in, with Wally reeling off details of the birds they saw. He thinks he should hit the road but Hunter suggests he stay for dinner. Olivia invites him over and Leah offers her to bring something. Wally says he’ll provide dessert. He goes outside to take a call from Claire, acting as though he’s at a meeting and saying he’ll be back late.
John assures Marilyn that he wasn’t pressuring her, he was just trying to help Irene and it went on longer than expected. He admits it’s been a wake-up call and he was thinking about when he could give Luc back. Marilyn tells him that she thinks they’ve come out of recent events stronger than ever and their family’s already complete, so she’s decided she doesn’t want a baby. Irene turns up to collect Luc. At the beach house, the dinner is in full swing. Hunter tells Wally the story of how he and Olivia tried to get their own place and ended up living with Irene. When pressed, Wally says he went travelling after uni and met Claire that way, but doesn’t give many details, appearing more animated when discussing the moussaka with Leah. Irene comes home, joking about them having a party without her. Hunter volunteers to put Luc down and Olivia follows him. He admits he feels like they’re not connecting and Wally’s hardly saying anything. Olivia says they’re just getting to know each other.
Raffy has taken Coco to Salt in the hope that sharing a large dessert will cheer her up but the activity is mocked by Jennifer and friends from a nearby table, with Jennifer sniping that Coco will end up fat and boring. Raffy exchanges barbs with her but Coco wants to leave. Raffy follows her downstairs, telling her to ignore them, but Coco says it was all true. Raffy tells her to stop being hopeless but it fails to have the desired effect and Coco leaves upset. Meanwhile, Marilyn nudges John, who fell asleep watching television. He accepts it’s probably a good thing they’re not having a baby. Marilyn says they should have met twenty years ago and John says she wouldn’t have liked him then. Marilyn says they’ll focus on Raffy and maybe Jett will give them grandchildren soon. Raffy comes home and asks to be taken to see Mason, given that she’s had a bad day. John notes it’s a good thing he had a power nap.
Coco is eating her way through a pack of biscuits at the table while looking obsessively at the photo of Jennifer and her friends from the beach earlier on her phone. Ben comes in and jokingly notes that she’s the one who’s been eating them all. She tells him there’s no milk so he decides to go out and get some. Coco almost puts the biscuits away but ends up resuming eating. Later, she puts a large amount of empty packets and wrappers in the bin, covering them with other rubbish, then goes to the bathroom and makes herself sick. Ben calls out as he arrives home and Coco emerges, acting normal.
Hunter tells Wally about considering being a sports physio and how he’s not sure what he wants now. Wally simply says that he’ll think of something soon. Irene and Leah go to make coffee; Irene wonders what Leah’s doing there and asks if she’s got a bad feeling about Wally. Leah says she simply doesn’t want Hunter to get hurt. Luc starts crying and Irene says she’ll take her back to Ash. Hunter tells Wally that he should give him some notice next time he comes down so he can invite Peggy and maybe Claire can come too. Wally abruptly announces that he has to go. After he’s left, Hunter complains to Leah and Olivia about him until someone knocks on the door: It’s Claire, Wally’s wife, who demands to see “her”. She hopes it isn’t Olivia then decides Leah is Wally’s type and accuses her of having an affair with him, saying he’s always going there. Hunter realises she doesn’t know. Claire is confused.
