Who is the stranger in the bay and what does he want? Will Kat and Ash really be able to work through their issues. Are Mason and Brody going to survive?
Extended Summary
Justin and Scarlett wander around the bush, calling out to Alf. Justin decides they need to split up and says they’ll meet up on the beach. Meanwhile, the stranger takes Alf’s fish knife. Back in Summer Bay, at the Diner, Roo is insisting to a less concerned Tori and Mason that something is wrong and Alf would know she was worrying. Tori eventually agrees to call Kat and the coastguard. Brody is at the counter but is paying no attention to the conversation, instead looking at his text conversation with Ziggy which she hasn’t replied to. Mason approaches and asks him what he thinks but Brody dismisses it, saying they know Justin camped out.
Ben complains somewhat to Ziggy about her not getting a job. Ziggy promises that she’s staying away from Brody and says she’s used Ben’s phone to arrange a Uber lift down the beach. However, it’s actually Brody that turns up outside. He wonders why he hasn’t heard from Ziggy lately and offers her a lift. Ziggy says that with Ben working on his plans for the pier and Maggie and Coco starting at school she was hoping for some alone time. Brody leaves, disappointed.
On the pier, Kat is getting an account from Roo, Tori and Mason and says she’ll call the coastguard. Mason decides to go to the surf club and Tori and Roo go for a walk. Ash approaches with Luc’s pram and Kat fills him in. Ash asks her if Tori’s okay and Kat somewhat testily says the family are all worried. She then gets a phone call from Murray with what sounds like bad news for Brody. At Salt, Brody tells Mason that he and Ziggy kissed but since then he’s heard nothing from her and she blanked him. Mason reassures him but remains unsure that he should be starting something. Kat turns up as Mason goes to check out the lighthouse. She tells Brody that Zannis is out on bail.
Justin stumbles across the camp and the unconscious Alf. Alf is starting to stir and Justin notes the wound on the back of his head. Scarlett is also exploring when she glimpses the stranger through the trees and hides behind a rock. He passes by but stops only a few yards away and paces, looking disorientated and scared. Scarlett picks up a small stone and throws it into the bush. The man runs towards the sound and Scarlett runs in the opposite direction.
Kat explains to Brody that Zannis’ bail was set high and no-one expected him to be able to afford it. She says he still thinks Brody’s in trouble and he’s been told to stay away from any known associates. If Brody sees him, he’s to call Kat and Zannis will be put back in jail, while Kat will keep an eye on Zannis at his daily check-ins. Brody doesn’t think that will be enough. At the Diner, Tori is texting Justin. Ash comes in and asks her about it. He apologises for Kat’s behaviour but Tori says Kat wasn’t the one at fault. Ash realises Kat has spoken to her and Tori makes a quick exit.
Near the beach, Mason is leaving a voice message for Justin. He runs into Ziggy and asks about her and Brody. Ziggy says that she likes Brody but she’s fallen for bad boys before. Mason says that Brody’s not a bad guy and either way she needs to talk to him. Brody is serving at Salt when he thinks he sees Zannis near the entrance. He’s gone a moment later and Brody runs to the door, bumping into Ziggy. He asks her to stay and keep him company but she tells him about Ben getting the news of his drug habit out of Justin. Despite saying their past didn’t matter, she can’t get past it.
Justin is chatting to a now conscious Alf, who recalls finding the camp and then being hit from behind. Scarlett comes running up and tells them they need to leave now. They head back to the boat where Justin pulls up the anchor as Scarlett relates her encounter and that the man had a knife. Alf realises his is missing. They speed off. A short time later, Roo arrives at the hospital where Tori is examining Alf’s head injury, noting he needs stitches. Justin and Scarlett are also present and go to phone Kat.
Kat arrives at the Diner flat, finishing off the phone call from Scarlett. Ash shushes her, indicating Luc is in the next room, then criticises her talking to Tori. Kat asks how he’d feel if Justin was cracking on to her or had feelings for her and she kept hanging around him. Ash insists Tori wouldn’t do anything. Kat eventually agrees that she won’t stop Ash and Tori spending time together, even though she thinks it’s a bad idea. Meanwhile, Alf, Roo, Justin and Scarlett arrive back at the Stewart house. Alf warns Roo to stop fussing while Justin assures Scarlett it’s over. As they talk however, the man emerges from under the tarpaulin in their boat.
Ben is doing designs as Ziggy arrives home in a less than relaxed mood. She ignores a phone call from Brody who leaves a voice message: The display indicates it’s the fourth. Ziggy texts him back to say to stop calling her, then turns the phone off. Brody retrieves the bin bag from outside and takes out the sachet of ice…just as Mason comes home.
Soon after, Mason is driving with Brody in the passenger seat: Brody has told him about Zannis. He protests that he didn’t even take the drugs but Mason is taking him to NA and then rehab. Brody thinks a car that has been behind them since they left town and which is now driving very close to them is Zannis and tries to get Mason to take a turning to the right. Mason refuses so Brody grabs the wheel. He causes them to veer off the road and overturn several times before righting themselves. Both Brody and Mason are left slumped, unconscious and bloodied.
