Jack’s investigation of Peter could cost him his life – When Jack investigates for himself what Peter is up to, he’s knocked out cold. Rachel and Kim finally give into temptation. Leah and Dan’s separation turns nasty.

Extended Summary

Leah and Dan’s separation has so far been very amicable, but as Leah explains to Rachel, it only makes the situation even sadder. The practicalities of money and telling the kids and have been covered and it’s really hitting home for them both. Leah heads over to Sally’s for a catch up and as the girls start to chat, Dan walks in to talk school with Sal – as soon as Leah and Dan see each other, it is very awkward. Leah insists that he stay to have a coffee with them, but he can’t handle the tension and heads off. It’s so sad that things have come to this.

Leah isn’t happy when she learns that Dan has told Colleen about the separation, he shouldn’t have said anything. Colleen asks Leah if there is any chance of the pair patching things up, but Leah doesn’t think so – things haven’t been working since Dan’s gambling problem. This leaves Colleen thinking Dan was responsible for the end of their marriage. When Dan is in the Diner later that day, Colleen makes mention that Leah seems to be holding up well and that it’s a shame they couldn’t get things back on track after Dan’s gambling problems – Dan isn’t impressed to hear this – ‘So I’m responsible for this marriage break up, am I?’. Colleen suddenly realises that she’s put her foot in it again!

Rachel has been lending a sympathetic ear to Leah during the separation, despite having to contend with her own life dramas with Dr Helpman. Rachel continues to push herself hard on her daily run to deal with the pressure and angst of the situation – to the point where she collapses near exhaustion on the sand dunes. Kim runs out of the surf to help her – reckons she should take a break, but Rachel insists that she is fine… He drags her to the Surf Club for a drink and to get to the bottom of the problem – he knows something is up when tears well in her eyes.

He takes Rachel in his arms as she opens up and tells him about the bad assessment Helpman gave her because she refused his advances. Kim is furious and wants her to go to the hospital CEO – but Rachel is reluctant to face the boys club in fear it will make things worse. She talks Kim out of confronting Helpman – he just can’t handle seeing Rachel so upset! As they head out of the Club, Rachel thanks Kim for not saying anything to Helpman and he lets her know that he is there for her. An awkward moment before Rachel gives Kim a hug and heads off… Hyde watches the heart felt scene between his son and Rachel from a distance… He confronts his son about what he saw – reminding Kim that Rachel’s career is at stake if they continue to act up like this. Kim doesn’t take to kindly to Hyde’s intrusion and lets him know it is none of his damn business! Annoyed, Kim moves off… H

e wanders to a secluded spot to clear his head and finds Rachel there! She’s trying to clear her head too – they share a smile. Kim mentions Hyde’s words of warning and Rachel agrees – they are flirting with danger – but Kim makes it clear that he doesn’t care – all he knows is that it feels right for them to be together! He is willing to keep quiet about it, do whatever it takes. Kim asks her if she feels the same way and she responds by kissing him! Is this the start of something dangerous?

Jack continues his detective work to try and find out what Peter is up to. He asks Martha how well she knows Peter from last time he was in town – she mentions that he became quite obsessed with the stalker case – but he got the job done and saved lives. Jack is left curious with the mention of Peter’s obsessiveness in his work and asks a few staff members for their take on Peter’s part on the stalker case – Fitzgerald reckons it was a huge deal for Peter and he did a great job. Peter walks in and Jack covers, not wanting him to know he is snooping for info on him, but Peter picks up on it and clocks the awkwardness. Jack is informed that afternoon that he is being temporarily transferred to Reefton Lakes Station as they are short staffed – not impressed – did Peter arrange this?

Jack asks him and an argument breaks out with Jack saying he knows Peter is up to something and that he knows he is getting close to finding out what! McGrath breaks it up and gives Jack a grilling about being an upstart. His transfer will be permanent if he doesn’t pull his head in! Jack doesn’t back down – he drives to the shed – he walks toward it but can’t get in – the door is padlocked! Just as he is moving around trying to find another way in he is wacked over the head from behind! As he lays out cold on the ground, we see Peter with an iron bar in hand!
