Extended Summary

The first part of the episode – could you help us fill it?

THE PALACE
Will is furious at Hayley for encouraging Jesse to talk to Rachel before signing the adoption papers. There was a good reason why Will wanted to get things done quickly – if Jesse speaks to Rachel then he’ll discover that his daughter hates him. Her exact words weren’t just “please adopt me”, they were “please adopt me because I hate my father”. Will can’t believe that she refused to take his word for it, and tries to make HIM out as the bad guy – “I’m your brother, for God’s sake!”

PATTERSON HOUSE
Leah looks at a picture of she and Vinnie on their wedding day that is on the mantlepiece. She then removes a picture of Jesse, before going over to the phone and dialling.

SURF CLUB
Jesse sees a few guys out. The surf club is now prepared for the reception, white sheets with pink hearts on draped left, right and centre. Jesse receives a phone call, asks whether everything is ok, before telling them caller that he’ll be there in about ten. He then leaves the building, locking up behind him.

Outside, someone moves towards the surf club. Sarah’s outline becomes more obvious as she tries the door, and it doesn’t say much for security there when she manages to get inside. She walks around looking at the tables etc laid out ready for the reception.

BREAK

PATTERSON HOUSE
Jesse has arrived at Leah’s, and wants to know what is up, refusing her offer of a drink, and wondering if it’s about ‘them’. She denies it, telling him that she KNOWS things are over, but she still cares, and she knows he is going through a rough time. Jesse realises that the latest regarding Rachel has swept around the Bay – it’s impossible to keep a secret in that place. She hopes that he’ll be able to open up to her, as she’s always there if he wants to talk.

THE PALACE
Hayley finds Will sat in the kitchen in the middle of the night, eating. They reminise about times gone by, and how they used to get up and eat marshmallows ad lollies as kids – they ate so much they were sick. He apologises for the way he spoke to her previously, and she in turn apologises for not trusting him. Will assures her that they’re ‘ok’ now when Hayley voices concerns about things being bad between them for the wedding the following day. Hayley doesn’t want the three of them (she, Will, Nick) to grow so far apart that they can’t go back, and Will agrees.

PATTERSON HOUSE
Jesse recites the tale so far to Leah – how he wanted to talk to Rachel, but now he doesn’t know what he would actually say – or what she would say to him. What if she doesn’t recognise him? Even though he wants to find out these things, he muses that Rachel is better off with Will and Gypsy. Leah points out that she has given him loads of options, and has managed to find a reason why every single one of them wouldn’t work. She wants to know what’s stopping him from signing the papers, and he admits that, by signing the papers, he’ll feel like he has failed as a father – if he doesn’t put his name down there, he can still tell himself that he is her Dad. It’s all about him and his pride, and he also can’t see what he would have left if he let Rachel go. He decides to leave, but has worked out what he needs to do.

SURF CLUB
Sarah leaves the building, and as Jesse approaches he sees a figure walking off into the distance. He goes into the Surf Club, and cautiously takes a look around. There appears to be nothing out of place.

OUTSIDE SHOWER
It’s morning, Peter is under the shower as Jesse comes to introduce himself, wanting to ‘run something’ past him.

SURF CLUB
Jesse tells Peter about how he saw someone leaving the previous night, although there isn’t anything wrong that he can see – he just thought he ought to get it checked out due to the recent Sarah-business. Peter tells Jesse that he will take a look around.

PATTERSON
Leah and Hayley are drinking already, comforting themselves with the excuse that it’s a tradition for weddings. The fact that she is actually getting married is still sinking in for Hayley. Leah tells Hayley about how she spoke to Jesse the previous night, and how good it was to be friends again after everything that has happened. Hayley also feels good after sorting things out with Will – it was goods to wake up and have no dramas looming – “nothing can ruin it now!”

SURF CLUB
Peter is going over the building with a fine tooth comb, trying to find out exactly what Sarah has been up to. Finally he checks the ait conditioning… and finds a bag of powder.

PATTERSON HOUSE
Leah is helping Hayley with her hair, and the pair are having fun… until Leah realises that Kane and Kirsty’s ceremony starts in an hour and she isn’t ready. Hayley convinces her to leave – she can do her own make-up, and they joke about the ‘cute AND nice’ Detective Baker.

POLICE STATION
Baker has pulled Sarah in for a serious chat, confronting her about the powder. Sarah plays dumb as Peter informs her exactly hat the powder can do – it can cause anything from blisters to respiratory distress. Sarah can only smirk and liken Baker to a walking textbook as he tells her what he thinks she planned – she KNEW that the place would heat up at the reception and someone would turn the air conditioning on. Sarah smugly responds that he can’t make accusations like that without proof – especially in his position. He moves around, bending down behind her chair to speak directly into her ear. He threateningly tells her that she doesn’t know what she’s messing with, and demands that she forget about all the little fantasies she has been coming up with.
