Rex Wilson, Matt’s uncle, was first seen in the diner telling Matt that he had got the beach inspectors job. Andrew sarcastically suggested that nepotism had nothing to do with it. Whilst he was there he saw that to get to Andrew’s youth centre, the kids had to walk through the diner kitchen and so had the youth centre shut down.

In early 1990, Rex reappeared at a council meeting regarding the selling of the sports fields where he argued with Bobby, Viv and Fisher. Bobby then accused of him being corrupt. Matt then told his uncle that he believed that Bobby was right, with Rex telling Matt to remember who had got him surf club job. Emma revealed that Bobby was going to get someone to stand against Rex at the next elections, but the following day after the results of his medical, Rex had to stand down due to health reasons.
