Extended Summary

Ben is on the beach preparing his board as Ziggy comes back from a surf. Ben promises to make her a new board soon but Ziggy is just happy to see him there, suggesting that the pier sale might have made things easier. She offers to go out again with Ben, since Dean isn’t answering her. Ben gives away the fact that Karen’s in town. Ziggy storms off despite Ben saying he wasn’t meant to tell her. At the caravan park, Karen learns Dean has been seeing Ziggy a few months and wonders what’s wrong with her that he hid her. Dean says there’s nothing wrong but he was worried Karen wouldn’t like her, since she hated Willow. Karen says Willow wasn’t good enough for him and storms off to her caravan. Ziggy then appears and asks why Dean lied to her, reminding him they only just had a chat about honesty. Karen pokes her head out of the van, warning her Dean’s full of it, and Dean awkwardly introduces them to each other.

Jasmine is ready for work as Robbo returns to the motel room. He went to the marina early on to try and trigger some memories but failed and is frustrated. He spoke to Tori about it but didn’t understand much of what she said except that it’s a lottery. Meanwhile, Dean, Ziggy and Karen are sat around a fire. Ziggy asks about the hospital and Karen makes a sarcastic remark about karaoke nights. Ziggy recalls Dean telling her Karen was fun and threw parties. Karen isn’t happy Ziggy knows so much about her however; she imagines Ziggy’s mum never took her out of school to go to the beach and is affronted when Ziggy laughs. Losing patience, Ziggy says she loves Dean and wants to get to know Karen but doesn’t owe her anything. She gets a text from Maggie and leaves.

At the Diner, Maggie tells Ben that the money from the pier sale has come through and she’s paid the solicitor. Ben doesn’t know why she wanted to meet; Maggie tries talking about bills with him but he says he’s not in the right head space for it. Ziggy arrives and asks Ben why he didn’t warn her Karen’s a nightmare; they explain to Maggie. Maggie suggests they all have lunch together. Down on the beach, Dean tells Karen that Ben is Ziggy’s father. He gets a text about the lunch invite and tries to tell Karen they don’t have to go but she is happy to. Dean asks her not to embarrass him.

At the Diner, Jasmine asks Alex if she wants a lift into work. Alex says she already has her car there and reflects that since meeting Willow she’s been left with a number of aches. Jasmine asks her what she knows about amnesia. Alex senses it’s not a random question, especially since Jasmine still has a bodyguard. At the hospital, Jasmine fills her in on the situation. She also notes Robbo has remembered things from before the marina. Alex says the crucial thing is the head injury: It could have erased the memories, or it could have stopped them being formed in the first place. She does have one idea however.

Maggie and Ziggy are getting ready for the lunch. Ziggy suspects it’s mainly for Ben’s benefit: Maggie has bought his favourite beer and made his favourite food, a quiche. She tries to tell Maggie that even though Ben’s relaxed enough to go surfing again he might not be back to normal. Ben arrives and Maggie gives him a beer. Soon after, Dean and Karen arrive; Karen gets an awkward silence when she wonders why Ben swapped a place like this for a caravan. Maggie has a special bottle of wine but Karen would rather have a beer, which Ben provides. Maggie is uncomfortable to realise they know each other well.

Later, Karen asks if she needs to finish, since she hates olives. She asks Ben for another beer; Dean asks if she’s allowed with her medication and she says two’s her limit. She asks how Dean and Ziggy got together; they explain Dean helped her with a car and they went on a rally together, with Ziggy being a mechanic. Karen calls her a tomboy and Maggie says they don’t like to label people but Ziggy is happy with the description and explains Maggie’s a high school principal. To Dean’s embarrassment, Karen relates how he was nearly expelled for a bomb hoax and she sorted it by sleeping with the principal. Dean and Ziggy clear the table; Karen thanks Maggie and Ben for looking out for Dean but is affronted when Maggie makes an unflattering remark about where he comes from. With Ben joining Ziggy and Dean but still in earshot, Karen says it’s obvious Maggie is trying to win Ben back and desperate isn’t a good look. Maggie walks out, upset. Ziggy wants to go after her but Karen says she’ll fix it.

Robbo is looking over his evidence board and takes down the photo of Dylan but ends up scrunching it up. Jasmine rings him up and apologises, explaining she’s told Alex what’s going on. She says Alex has an idea and asks Robbo to join them. Once he does, Robbo is sceptical when Alex suggests hypnosis. Alex says she’s used it to help addicts and alleviate pain. She says there are no guarantees, reiterating what she said earlier about the memories possibly never being there in the first place, but thinks it stands a chance.

Maggie emerges from her room to find Karen waiting in the corridor. Karen notes she’d like to blame the medication but she’s never had much of a filter and she’s sorry. She wonders why Ben and Maggie separated, asking if he hit her. Maggie says things just unravelled but denies they’re separated. Karen isn’t convinced and even asks, mostly jokingly, if she can make a play for him if things go south. Dean, who has been listening to the end of the conversation, decides it’s time to go. As Dean, Ziggy and Karen return to the caravan park, Dean reminds Karen what he said about being embarrassing but Ziggy thinks it broke the ice and has left Ben and Maggie alone together. Karen notes she likes Ziggy despite where she comes from, leaving the pair alone. Ziggy also says she likes Karen: She’s both confident and vulnerable at the same time and loyal. Dean asks her not to say she’s the female version of him. Ziggy points out he just did.

Ben and Maggie are clearing up but the mood between them is awkward and Ben is keen to leave. Maggie admits she wants him to move back in, saying Karen thinks they’re separated. Ben says he doesn’t want to intentionally hurt her but he’s not ready. Maggie says she saw him smile for the first time in ages today but it wasn’t her making him do it. Ben departs, leaving Maggie in tears. At the hospital, Jasmine offers to leave Robbo and Alex alone but Robbo tells her to stay. Alex asks if he’s ready and tells him to relax.
