Extended Summary

Olivia finds Hunter sitting alone and comments that Nick was harsh with Jennifer. However, she also suggests that Jennifer shouldn’t have been in a uni bar and wonders why Hunter invited her when they were having fun on their own. Hunter bluntly says that he wanted to and walks away, saying goodbye to Mason as he goes. Meanwhile, Ryder and Raffy ask Leah when dinner is and Leah says she’ll text Hunter to come home. Ben comes in and the teens wonder why he’s there: He is busy phoning Maggie so Leah explains. Ryder calls over asking him to say hi to Coco, and Maggie passes the message on to her, along with Brody and Ziggy, the latter saying to tell Ben they set the TV volume back to normal. Maggie assures Ben the girls will spoil her even if he can’t spend her birthday with her and he says he’ll sleep with his phone next to him. After they hang up, Coco checks on Maggie who promises that she’ll be okay sleeping without Ben.

Olivia thanks Mason for trying to help her and Hunter be friends again but Mason thinks he was wrong and it was too soon to force it. An old classmate of Mason’s, Joseph, appears and assumes Mason is coming back to uni but Mason explains he’s just there with a friend. They briefly chat about Joseph starting fourth year. Olivia wonders about Mason quitting and he says their supervisors told them they could make a difference but he learned he couldn’t. He gets a text from Justin saying he’s there to pick them up. Soon after, Mason, Justin and Jasmine are at the Diner and Mason is surprised to learn Jasmine is a nurse. He says he’s training to be a doctor, then corrects himself, saying he was. Justin gives them space as Jasmine wonders why he gave up. Mason says he couldn’t handle losing patients and Jasmine agrees it’s hard but says some cases make it worthwhile.

Ben is telling Leah that the hot air balloon company have offered him full credit when Jennifer turns up to see Hunter, saying she hates her dad, who wouldn’t listen to her. She asks if she can stay there for the night, saying she has nowhere else. Leah rings Nick, who is fine with it. She says she and Hunter will be in separate rooms: It’s a rule of Alf’s that she agrees with. Ben again offers to take a van to make room but Leah says she’ll make him up a bed on the couch. Meanwhile, Justin, Mason and Jasmine arrive back at the Morgan house and Jasmine is introduced to Brody. Mason tells her he’ll get some wine and meet her out back, insisting to his brothers that he just wants to talk about common interests with her. Brody is sceptical but Justin latches on to the fact that Mason is interested in going back to medicine.

Ben is having trouble sleeping on the couch, getting up, while at the same time Maggie is getting up back at the farm, both of them checking their phones. Leah comes downstairs and assures Ben he didn’t wake her: Jennifer is watching YouTube on her phone in the next room. Ben says he’s having trouble sleeping without Maggie and reflects on all their plans when they got married and how he said he’d always stand by her. He is upset that he can’t be with her on her birthday, especially when it could be the last one. Leah tells him not to think like that.

Next morning, Olivia literally bumps into Hunter and Jennifer at the surf club. Jennifer mentions that she spent the night at Hunter’s before heading off to get a juice. Hunter explains she had a fight with Nick. Olivia suggests she should have friends she can stay with and thinks it’s a big step and things are moving too fast. Hunter retorts that sleeping with Axel while still with him was too fast and says that since they aren’t friends she should keep her opinions to herself. At the farm house, Maggie is greeted by Brody, Ziggy and Coco, who have prepared a special birthday breakfast for her. She admits she was tossing and turning all night without Ben there. They then present the second part of the surprise: A tablet displaying a video call from Ben.

Hunter comes into the Diner and admits to Leah that he had a go at Olivia. Leah queries Jennifer staying over and Hunter acknowledges it’s a bit full-on. Jennifer then turns up wanting to spend time with Hunter and dismisses the idea of talking to her parents, saying Nick won’t have calmed down and her mother’s always busy. She asks to stay another night and Leah reluctantly agrees but stresses it’s not permanent. Meanwhile, Mason finds Olivia at uni looking down and she tells him Jennifer’s living with Hunter at the moment. She suddenly clocks that he’s there and is pleased when he confirms that he’s decided to return to uni.

Ben is confirming to Maggie that neither of them sleep well alone when Ryder appears over his shoulder and asks Coco to meet up with him at the surf club. Coco says they have the breakfast but Ziggy says it’s about finished and Ben and Maggie probably want some privacy, so she says she’ll meet him in twenty minutes. The youngsters leave and Ben tells Maggie the girls arranged everything. At the surf club, Raffy tries to talk to Ryder who is fretting about Coco cancelling again…right before she turns up. Ryder goes to get her a juice. Raffy asks Coco if she still likes Ryder, saying if she does she should let him know. Ryder returns and Raffy gives them space. Ryder is worried but Coco kisses him; he is delighted to realise she does like him.

Olivia and Mason have gone to the enrolment office. The receptionist, Li Xiu, tells Mason that he’ll need to repeat a couple of modules. He asks about his hospital placement, saying it got cancelled, and she tells him it’s listed as a suspension so he’ll have to take it up with the hospital directly. Mason wants to sort things out there first but Li Xiu says they can’t enrol him until he’s sorted out a placement. Mason goes to Salt and fills in Justin, saying he’d have to move to get a placement elsewhere. Justin suggests Tori could help but Mason wants to handle it on his own. Jasmine comes in and Mason says he owes her a drink, since what she said convinced him to go back to medicine. They start discussing the possibility of her getting a job at the hospital and Justin, largely ignored again, says he’ll get the drinks.

Ziggy comes round the Stewart house with leftovers from breakfast and Ben’s mail. Ben tells her to keep her distance since he doesn’t want her carrying germs back to Maggie. He opens an official-looking letter and finds it’s a court summons over the assault charge for the following week. He complains about it coming up again after so long; Ziggy says Brody doesn’t want him punished but Ben doesn’t think it matters. Ben tells her not to tell Maggie; Ziggy agrees not on her birthday but Ben doesn’t want her to know at all and tells her to promise not to say a word.
