Home and Away character David Langham shot in tonight’s dramatic episode

Tonight’s Home and Away in Australia confirmed that Sergeant David Langham was the character shot by new cop Richie.

Back in mid-May, a promo airing on Channel 7 in Australia teased that a character would be shot in upcoming episodes.

It gave very few details, but with 20 characters featuring in the trailer, it seemed that any one of our Summer Bay favourites could have been in danger.

Fans quickly began theorising which Home and Away character would be impacted, and the clues all seemed to point to Sergeant Langham (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor).

A previous promo which aired in late April showed David at home with daughters Lacey (Sophea Pennington) and Jo (Maddison Brown) on the sofa at the beach house.

All three appeared emotional, and David was seen looking uncharacteristically unkempt and with facial hair, leading fans to speculate that he was recuperating at home after getting shot.

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that new arrival Richie Brezniak (Rocco Forrester-Sach) – the rookie cop whose overly enthusiastic nature has been getting him into trouble since he arrived in early May – would be the one to fire the shot.

In tonight’s Aussie episode, the fan theory was confirmed as David was shot by Richie in the final scenes.

A crime wave has recently swept Summer Bay and the surrounding areas – the surf club garage was broke into, a number of power tools were stolen from tradies’ vans, and Justin’s (James Stewart) van was stolen.

With residents growing frustrated at the ongoing crimes, yesterday’s episode saw David order his officers to scour the area and canvas locals for information, with the aim of apprehend the criminal or criminals that very day.

Shortly after, Richie and his colleague (Jake Fryer Hornsby) spotted Justin’s stolen van parked up by the beach.

There was no sign of whoever had taken the van – that was, until a man came out of nowhere and stole Lacey’s handbag from over her shoulder, before running back towards the vehicle and speeding off.

After assuring that Lacey was okay, Richie jumped back into his police car and sped off in pursuit, leaving his colleague to tend to Lacey.

In today’s episode, it was revealed that Richie had failed to catch the thief, and he was reprimanded by David for breaking protocol by failing to call for backup and leaving his colleague alone.

Richie has taken matters into his own hands, disregarding protocol, leaving his partner, chasing after a suspect and risking his own safety,” Jeremy Lindsay Taylor explained to TV Week.

As the episode went on, David received a tip off that Justin’s van had been spotted near a makeshift campsite on nearby Jacaranda Road.

With Richie back on the case, he and David headed off together to check out the scene. There, they found a tent set up, with Justin’s van parked up next to it.

The pair began questioning a woman inside the tent, with David asking her how she came into possession of the van.

The woman, named Alana, claimed it had all been a misunderstanding and that she bought the van off a guy at the side of the road.

Suddenly, the boyfriend – the same man who had stolen Lacey’s handbag and had previously been spotted on CCTV carrying out one of the thefts – appeared from the bushes with firewood.

After dropping most of the firewood, the character – Dale (David Harsh) – rushed towards David and Richie wielding a large stick.

Richie drew his gun, but David told him to step back.

In the final moments of the episode, Richie raised his gun, and David stepped in the way to stop him doing something he’d later come to regret.

However, in the confusion, Richie proceeded to pull the trigger, hitting David square in the abdomen.

In the aftermath he is mortified and shocked when he realises what has happened,” Rocco recently stated in an interview with The West Australian.  “By the point it has happened, it is irreversible and the damage is done.”

As Cash arrives on the scene in tomorrow’s episode, paramedics are tending to David and preparing to transfer them to Northern Districts Hospital.

But will he pull through?

Tomorrow’s episode sees the arrival of a new character, Dr Amelia Carlisle, played by Wentworth star Nicole da Silva. She’s covering for Levi (Tristan Gorey) while he’s on leave, and will treat David as he’s rushed to hospital.

Dana has already mentioned meeting her new boss at the hospital, commenting that she “hasn’t really sussed her out yet,” but that she “seems to be very switched on.

With Amelia thrown in at the deep end as she treats the gunshot wound, will she be able to save the life of the Summer Bay resident?

Thankfully, we know that David survives the shooting, with the aforementioned promo showing him resting at home. However, what the incident means for Richie’s career as a cop remains to be seen.

As much as he wants to make it right, it might not be possible for him,” Rocco continues. “When a life is on the line, even if a person pulls through, I think the fallout follows that person for a long time.

He has got a lot of ground to pave to try to prove to people that he is a good guy.

Rocco Forrester-Sach is still filming and is believed to have joined the show’s full-time cast, but fans watching filming at Sydney’s Palm Beach have noted that it’s been a while since Rocco was spotted filming in his police uniform.

Instead, it appears Richie is set to become a lifeguard in the months ahead, as he’s been spotted alongside John Palmer (Shane Withington) in the iconic red uniform.

Will he simply be suspended pending an investigation, or will the shock shooting put a rapid end to Richie’s fledgling career as a cop?

As for David, he’s set for romance with the doctor who treats him.

Actors Jeremy Lindsay Taylor and Nicole da Silva have been spotted filming together on numerous occasions since Nicole joined the cast earlier this year.

Then, last month, the pair were seen filming scenes in which their characters share a kiss and walk hand in hand.

Nicole da Silva’s first scenes as Dr Amelia Carlisle air tomorrow in Australia. UK viewers will see her first episode on Friday 3rd July.
