Home and Away Spoilers – A favourite is in peril as a new character arrives
Next week on Home and Away in the UK, as new doctor Amelia arrives, she jumps into action to save the life of a Summer Bay favourite.
The recent string of robberies has already caused plenty of concern in the bay, with the surf club targeted and Justin’s (James Stewart) van stolen as the thieves became increasingly bold.
David (Jeremy Lindsay Taylor) has been overseeing the investigation, but recently chose to hand the case to probationary constable Richie Brezniak (Rocco Forrester-Sach), seeing it as a learning opportunity for the new recruit.
Though enthusiastic, Richie has struggled to settle into life at the station since arriving in Summer Bay, with Cash (Nicholas Cartwright) already at his wits’ end.
David has been more willing to give Richie room to improve, but next week tests that patience again.
The investigation continues as Alf (Ray Meagher) and John (Shane Withington) rally the locals at the surf club, encouraging everyone to stay vigilant after the recent thefts.
At the station, Cash and David are also taking the case seriously, aware that the thieves need to be caught before someone gets hurt.
Richie is keen to help move things along, but his eagerness soon causes another problem when he calls Justin in for another chat about the stolen van.
The interview quickly becomes tense, with Richie pressing Justin over why he left his keys in the vehicle.
When Richie also asks about the van’s insurance, Justin realises that he’s being treated as a possible suspect!
Cash steps in and shuts the interview down, making it clear that Richie can’t launch his own line of investigation without approval.
Richie’s sent away for the rest of the day, but the setback only leaves him more determined to prove himself.
Later, Richie is reprimanded again by David, who warns him that he’ll need to learn restraint if he wants to make it as a police officer.
David then gathers the officers and shows them CCTV footage from a grocery store theft, hoping it will help them track down the people responsible.
Before long, Richie is back out on patrol with Constable Thompson (Jake Fryer Hornsby), when they spot Justin’s stolen van at the northern end of the beach car park.
As they move in, the thief, Dale (David Harsh), emerges from nowhere and snatches Lacey’s (Sophea Pennington) purse as she passes by, before jumping into the vehicle.
Richie fails in his attempt to stop Dale driving off, leading him to make another rash decision. Instead of staying with Lacey and following procedure, Richie jumps straight into the patrol car and takes off after the suspect alone.
The chase goes nowhere, and Richie is forced to report over the police radio that he’s lost the suspect.
When David later speaks to Lacey, she can only offer a limited description of the thief, but one detail stands out—the hoodie he was wearing appears to match the one seen in the grocery store footage.
The link gives police a stronger lead, but Richie’s conduct becomes another issue for David as he returns to the station.
He pulls Richie from the case, pointing out that he abandoned his partner, left the victim behind and ignored protocol.
Richie accepts the reprimand, but insists that he only wants to learn and make a difference. When he then works through his lunch break, David softens slightly and decides to give him another chance.
That decision soon has huge consequences, as news comes through that Justin’s stolen van has been spotted.
David and Richie head out to a bush campsite, where they find a woman named Alana (Sarah Furnari) with the vehicle.
Alana claims that she and her boyfriend bought the van from a man on the side of the road, and that her boyfriend is somewhere nearby.
As David questions her, the situation changes when the boyfriend, Dale, suddenly emerges from the bush and aggressively demands that the police back off.
Richie reacts by drawing his gun, but David immediately orders him to put it away.
The man continues to approach, and Richie ignores David’s command as the confrontation escalates.
Then, at the worst possible moment, David steps into the line of fire—just as a panicking Richie pulls the trigger!
David is shot in the abdomen and collapses to the ground, leaving Richie horrified by what he’s done.
As David bleeds heavily, Richie puts pressure on the wound and insists it was an accident, while David tells him to call for Cash—a senior officer is needed at the scene.
Cash soon arrives and asks what happened, and Richie stumbles as he admits that he accidentally shot David.
As Cash takes Richie back to the station, David is rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
There, his life is in the hands of new ED doctor Amelia Carlisle (Nicole da Silva), whose arrival in Summer Bay has already made an impression.
Earlier in the day, Lacey, Jo (Maddison Brown) and Alf crossed paths with Amelia outside the surf club, after Lacey was stung by a bluebottle whilst swimming.
Alf was impressed by the newcomer’s medical knowledge and even offered her a job, only for Amelia to politely explain that her job kept her busy enough.
Little did she realise that later that day, she would be tending to the girls’ father.
With Dana (Ally Harris) assisting, Amelia takes charge as David is rushed into resus by Paramedic Jo (Katie Horky).
David’s only semi-conscious, and as Amelia quickly assesses the wound she realises the bullet hasn’t passed through.
She introduces herself to David as she works, then conducts an ultrasound to check whether he’s bleeding internally. But during the scan, David’s heart rate suddenly spikes, leaving Amelia increasingly concerned.
Amelia orders a CT scan, but there’s no time to get him there. Before David can be moved, his condition takes a terrifying turn as he goes into cardiac arrest.
Amelia immediately begins CPR, just as Lacey and Jo arrive at the hospital looking for their father.
They’re horrified at the sight of the medical team fighting to save him, but Amelia stays focused as she continues trying to resuscitate him.
After a third round of adrenalin, Amelia is left preparing to call it if David doesn’t respond.
Can Amelia save David before it’s too late?
The dramatic episode mark the debut of Nicole da Silva as the show’s latest regular cast member.
“Amelia comes from a challenging childhood and is used to moving around a lot,” Nicole told New Idea. “So when circumstances change and she decides to stay in the Bay, it poses a real challenge for her. I liked that, despite her past, she pursues her future wholeheartedly.”
Whilst UK fans of Aussie TV may recognise Nicole from Doctor Doctor, or her acclaimed role as Franky Doyle in prison drama Wentworth, this isn’t her first time in Summer Bay.
Nicole appeared in one episode of the show back in 2005 as Jane Sims, a girl who Robbie (Jason Smith) and Kim (Chris Hemsworth) bumped into whilst on a boys’ day out to a secluded beach.
There was surprise when the friend accompanying Jane was none other than Robbie’s sister, Kit (Amy Mizzi), the two being students at university together.
“Home and Away holds a special kind of nostalgia,” Nicole said in an additional interview with the Sydney Morning Herald. “It certainly does for me. I grew up watching it and it’s become synonymous with the Aussie identity.”
“To be back on this show that has stood the test of time and continues to rate really strongly–and is, in essence, one of the backbones of this industry–it’s great to be a part of it.”
Home and Away is available to stream from 6am weekdays, with double bill episodes airing from 6pm on 5Star.
