Home and Away Spoilers – Mackenzie and Levi lose their baby
Next week on Home and Away in the UK, Mackenzie and Levi prepare for a baby shower and gender reveal, only for their scan to bring the worst possible news.
Mackenzie (Emily Weir) and Levi (Tristan Gorey) discovered the pregnancy after the train crash, following their second implantation as part of their IVF journey. Having already lost one baby during the process, the couple kept the news quiet until after their 12-week scan confirmed everything was going well.
Next week, future auntie Abigail (Hailey Pinto) is keen to mark the next stage, as she arrives at Salt with ideas for a baby shower and gender reveal.
Mac isn’t immediately convinced. It’s not really her kind of thing, and when Abby keeps pushing the idea, Mac sends her off to get on with stocktake instead.
With Abby out of the way, Mali (Kyle Shilling) checks in with Mac about the artwork she’s asked him to create for the nursery. Mac chooses a design, but Alf (Ray Meagher) soon gives her something else to think about.
Alf thanks Mac and Mali for inviting him to Archie’s first birthday party, and his comments about cherishing milestone events stay with her. Although she hadn’t been planning on making a fuss, Mac starts to wonder whether a baby shower is one of those moments she should make the most of.
Abby later keeps up her efforts by presenting Mac with a scrapbook full of baby shower ideas. The gesture leaves Mac warmed, even if she’s still not fully sold on the kind of event Abby has in mind.
The scrapbook stays with Mac, and she later brings it back to Salt where she’s still unsure what to do. Eden (Stephanie Panozzo) in on hand as Mac explains that Abby’s ideas were a lovely thought, but confetti cannons and a ‘wishing well of dreams’ book to write in aren’t really her style.
Instead, Mac decides she would like a baby shower if Eden is willing to help organise something more low-key. Eden doesn’t exactly see herself as a baby shower person either, but she agrees to help.
With her next baby scan due to confirm the baby’s gender, Mac later tells Abby and Eden that the baby shower and gender reveal will go ahead at Salt afterwards.
Abby is thrilled at first, until Mac explains that she’s asked Eden to help because Abby’s ideas weren’t quite what she had in mind. Abby is upset, and decides to pull out, given her ideas clearly aren’t good enough.
Mac quickly loses patience and warns that she’ll ditch them both and organise the whole thing herself if they can’t work together. The warning works, as Abby and Eden agree to join forces and give Mac the kind of baby shower she actually wants.
The next day, Abby, Eden and Dana (Ally Harris) get to work decorating Salt ahead of the celebration. After all the debate over what Mac wanted, everything is ready for her return from the scan.
Meanwhile, Mac is at home waiting for the appointment when she learns that Levi has been held up at work and will have to meet her at the hospital. Tane (Ethan Browne) steps in and accompanies her instead, with Levi arriving just in time.
Sonographer Magda (Deepka Ratra) begins the ultrasound, but it soon becomes clear that something’s not right.
Magda asks Dr Ellen Sinclair (Janine Watson) to come in, leaving Mac and Levi on tenterhooks.
Dr Sinclair passes the ultrasound probe over Mac’s stomach again, then confirms the news they were dreading.
She can’t detect a heartbeat.
Mac and Levi immediately scramble to find an alternative explanation—maybe the machine’s broken, or maybe the placenta is in the way. But Dr Sinclair can’t give them the reassurance they’re looking for, explaining that a Beta-hCG test will be needed to confirm whether Mac has miscarried.
Dr Sinclair arranges for the test to be marked as urgent, telling Mac and Levi they should have the results within the hour.
As they wait, Mac begins blaming herself. She can’t understand how she didn’t know something was wrong, questioning why she didn’t notice when the baby stopped moving.
Levi tries to reassure her that sometimes there is no warning, but Mac is left asking why this is happening again.
A short while later, the Beta-hCG results confirm what Dr Sinclair suspected; they’ve lost the baby.
For Mac, the devastation is overwhelming. Not only did she and Levi lose the first embryo they had implanted last year, but Mac also lost a baby back in 2021.
At that time, Mac had been in a relationship with Ari Parata (Rob Kipa-Williams), and found out she was pregnant just as he decided to end their relationship and return to former love Mia (Anna Samson). Mac briefly considered terminating the pregnancy, but couldn’t go through with it.
The decision was taken out of her hands however, when she later collapsed in pain and it was discovered she’d suffered an ectopic pregnancy. Emergency surgery left her with only one fallopian tube, which later added to her fears that she and Levi might struggle to conceive.
With their friends still preparing for the baby shower at Salt, Levi quietly asks Tane to go and tell Eden and Abby what’s happened. Tane returns to Salt, where the decorations are all in place, and breaks the news that the celebration won’t be going ahead.
As Abby, Eden and Harper begin packing everything away, Abby suggests that they could hold on to the decorations in case Mac and Levi try for another baby later. Eden shuts the idea down, knowing how painful it could be if Mac or Levi were to find them.
Back at the hospital, Dr Sinclair explains that they now need to discuss what happens next. As Mac hasn’t gone into labour naturally, she advises that she should be induced to reduce the risk of infection and bleeding.
Mac refuses, forcing Dr Sinclair to explain the other option—a surgical termination under general anaesthetic. Both procedures can be carried out that day, but Mac needs to decide which one she wants.
Overwhelmed, Mac asks Levi what he thinks, but he tells her it has to be her decision. She needs more time, but Dr Sinclair warns that they have to act quickly for Mac’s own safety, as she’s at risk of sepsis.
As Mac says she doesn’t want any of this to be real, Levi gently but firmly brings her back to what has happened.
They’ve lost their baby, and he doesn’t want to lose her too.
After their last miscarriage nearly tore them apart, can Mac and Levi find a way through this one together?
