Former H&A Actor on Assault Charge

Robert Mammone

Robert Mammone, the actor behind the much-loved father and wonder-doc, Sid Walker in Home and Away and the underworld magnate, Tony Mokbel in Fat Tony and Co. has been charged with assault, after an altercation with his ex-partner’s father.

On January 25th, a court heard that Mammone had engaged in an argument with Gregory Molineaux, the father of his former partner, Clea Molineaux over a bottle of vodka at her house in Canterbury on November 11th. As the situation escalated, Mammone pushed Mr Molineaux backwards through an open door. Mammone was then restrained by Ms Molineaux while her father went and got help from a nearby business.

Russell Crowe, Mammone’s friend of 26 years, wrote a glowing character witness, stating that a criminal conviction would ruin Mammone’s career. “Robert is not a perfect person, none of us humans are and I’m very sure he deeply regrets the situation he finds himself in.” He continued, “He needs to be able to travel at a moment’s notice if an opportunity arises as exemplified by The Water Diviner where he was required to travel to Turkey to complete his sequences.

Magistrate Jacqueline Trad noted that while this event was out of character, she informed Mammone that provocation was not a defense and that “you are only as good as the way you react to other people”.

She passed no conviction, however placed Mammone on a two-year good behaviour bond, as well as two apprehended violence orders, against both Ms Molineaux and his daughter, for a period of 12 months.

The Walker Family in 2009

Mammone first appeared as Sid Walker in a guest role in 2009, before returning as a regular in 2010 for three years.
