Stars out for Wedding

July 10, 2005

A WHO'S Who of entertainment and sport will be in Sydney next week for soap princess Bec Cartwright's wedding to Lleyton Hewitt.

The golden couple will tie the knot in a civil ceremony in front of 120 tennis stars, actors, agents, friends and relatives from all around Australia next Thursday afternoon.

The couple returned home from London last week after Hewitt, 23, lost his Wimbledon semi-final against three-time winner Roger Federer.

And Cartwright, 21, wasted no time in starting to finalise details of her big day with top party planner, David Grant, who has co-ordinated the celebrity wedding.

The soap princess, who is five months pregnant, will have her final fittings this week for the $10,000 haute couture wedding gown commissioned from designer-to-the-stars, Alex Perry.

Cartwright is understood to have consulted Cleo magazine's fashion director Jo Ferguson about her dress and the bridesmaid's gowns, which are also being made by Perry.

Her bridesmaids include sister, Kristy, and her close friend and former Home And Away publicist, Victoria Supple.

Adelaide AFL star Andrew McLeod, who used to share a house with Hewitt in Adelaide before his January engagement, will act as Hewitt's best man, while Cartwright's older brother, Shaun, is also joining the wedding party.

While there was speculation the couple would tie the knot overlooking Sydney Harbour at Taronga Zoo, one close friend said it was ruled out because of security concerns.

When the invitations went out last month, guests were told to meet in the lobby of a Sydney hotel at 2pm before being bussed out to a "secret" location to watch the couple exchange vows.

The guests were also instructed that mobile phones and cameras were banned from the ceremony to protect the couple's privacy.

Cartwright and Hewitt are currently renovating - and building a nursery - at the $4.5 million Palm Beach mansion the couple bought earlier this year.

The secret service

Apart from some guests' names, little is known about star couple's wedding

TENNIS ace Lleyton Hewitt is going to extraordinary lengths to kept secret the details of his Saturday July 21 wedding to soap starlet Bec Cartwright.

Not even the 120 guests have been told the venue of the glamorous event.

All they have been told is to meet in the foyer of a Sydney hotel at 2pm on the day, ready to be taken by bus to the venue of the ceremony and reception.

Guests have been asked not to take cameras or camera phones.

Speculation was that the wedding and reception would be at Sydney's picturesque Taronga Park Zoo.

But on Friday whispers from those close to the couple hinted the venue had been moved elsewhere on Sydney Harbour because of security concerns.

Cartwright and Hewitt arrived in Sydney this week and the six-month pregnant Logie winner wasted no time putting the finishing touches to her big day.

While Hewitt prepared for the Davis Cup tie against Argentina in Sydney on Friday, Cartwright was organising to meet celebrity couturier Alex Perry later in the week for a final fitting of her $10,000 gown.

The gown is understood to a departure from Perry's usual figure-hugging, bombshell-style designs -- being less fitted and more "whimsical".

Cleo fashion guru Jo Ferguson, who dressed Cartwright for the Logies, is styling the wedding party, while special occasion supremo David Grant is co-ordinating the event.

Cartwright's sister, Kristy, and her former Channel 7 publicist, Victoria Supple, are among her bridal party, while Adelaide Crows star Andrew McLeod is tipped to be Hewitt's best man. Cartwright's brother, Shaun, is understood to be in the wedding party.

Cartwright's close friends from her Home and Away days, Kate Richie, Ada Nicodemou, Tammin Sursok and Kristy Wright, are expected to be among the guests -- as is her long-time manager, Stephen Harmon.

Cartwright has taken an 18-month break from acting to travel with Hewitt and enjoy motherhood.

The couple are believed to have turned down huge offers from magazines for the rights to their wedding.

The wedding will cap the couple's whirlwind romance. They started dating in December and Hewitt proposed in January, presenting Cartwright with an enormous $250,000 Tiffany's engagement ring.

Cartwright will celebrate her 22nd birthday two days after the wedding.

Thanks for that. I bet Bec will look pretty. It is weird having a wedding on a Thursday. I am sure their day will be beautiful. One thing I don't get though is why Bec is leaving Home and Away, when she lives on Palm Beach, which is where Home and Away is filmed?

Because it's not only filmed there, it's also filmed at fox studios. Also I'm sure she wants to look after her baby.

Does anyone else think 21 is a bit young to be married, considering she already had a long-term relationship with Beau.
