So all the  retcons have been pretty bad but which do you think was the worst?

Irene having a serial rapist son was over the top what was even his back story did they give a reason behind how he was? All all just weird only thing that kinda like that could of been interesting was the Billy VJ Irene connection. Had VJ and Billy stayed for awhile as little family unit could of given Irene little family and some purpose to her character outside of the diner but instead all we got was horrible custody battle.

Martha I just never warmed up to it was horrible and now continue to dreadful now she left and Alf has a wife who never goes and see him. Again this had possibility give alf some purpose and life again but instead just ruined history of the show seem erase Alisa from history and just gives Alf a reason to go away. Roo having a brother could of given her something to do as well but instead he was just vilan of the month to never be seen again. Rather Martha been whole different character and new lost interest for Alf if anything

Marilyn daughter is the rewrites that annoys me the least and if Heather had stayed as a new character she could of been really good for Marilyn character could still started the same way but build a bond over time really like the actress but no instead she becomes a insane killer who is never mentioned again.

In theory all 3 of these had real potential to of given some under used characters new life but they all just handle horribly making the rewrites in history not worth it.

Going further back

Colleen being a Stewart never sat right with me I stopped watching not long after  (for other reasons) and didn't see it play out long term but I just never liked it

Colleen daughter happen when I was a kid so never thought much on it but another character vanish from existence and it just icky when you think she dated Alf who thanks to the retcon was her uncle

I have to say Marilyn having a daughter just for the sake of five minutes of drama. However I have noticed in the last few years storylines have got bit a over killed at times .

I like Colleen being a Stewart as it gave us the funniest episode ever with the town thinking Alf and Colleen were getting married .

I had to go with Marilyn's daughter too. Much of Marilyn's second stint involved her wanting to and struggling to have a baby. It's a bit insulting to that whole story arc in my opinion - with Donald's support, Marilyn would have totally fought for custody of Heather, especially when it seemed likely she'd be happy to have children herself.

The Martha one I could almost buy had we just had one or two lines saying Alf told Ailsa the truth and she agreed to keep it a secret. If anyone can understand someone needing to run away from the past/their existing life, it was her.

The Mick one wasn't great, but at least it didn't alter any events that played out on screen, like the Heather and Martha ones did.

Never really cared about Colleen's daughter (other than Alf dating her, which was ick due to a future retcon) or Colleen being a Stewart.

I really don’t know what the point was in Colleen having a long lost daughter as it did not lead anywhere and Maureen left soon afterwards and never to be mentioned again.

It almost felt like they felt the need to give Colleen are one yearly storyline .

Mind you she did have a big breast cancer storyline later that year .

I always thought Colleen didn’t have many storyline’s but now that I think off it she did have far few with gamble addiction and book storyline with Max and couple failed romances and later finding out she was Stewart .

It was nice to see that Alf's grief was genuine in that flashback we saw in Feb 1989 episodes, and he assumed Martha was dead, and he was expecting her to walk through the door. During the 1988 season Alf did a fantastic job of keeping the fact she was alive a secret. It was a retcon I know 30 years later. All soaps have done this though, rewritten history.

Alf said he had had just found out Morag was Bobby's birth mother but was as yet unsure who the father was, the "other fella" who Morag had a one night stand with as Alf said.

Defo Martha coming back  it’s like Ailsa never existed  when. She was in the show for nearly 13 years  and I as a long term fan see her as Alfs  soulmate  not Martha
