I hate it when actors leave and say they are going to do movies, when you hardly even see H&A actors in them apart from a very little part, i mean where is Kate garven? there is no sign of her doing anything, the same with christie hayes and everyone else., why cant they have websites its just like their career has gone down, I mean we hardly see them its just feels like there in with the crowd of everyday people not doing anything and leaing a normal life, far better just to stay in H&A

It takes a long time to become established enough and known enough to be in movies and things like that. You look at people like Melissa George and Ilsa Fisher - movies didn't happen for them over night. Everything takes time . . . And besides, maybe they enjoy being anonoymous and normal for a change . . .

This thread has saved me though looking where to post. I posted a while back that Angel was on a American tv show, very similar to Murder she wrote. This evening i watched a repeat of Friends, and the baby sitter that was hired was Angel, i have seen this episode loads of times. And thought i recognised her, but never associated her with home and away.

It might seem like a shame when people leave H&A and are never really seen again, but H&A is hardly a huge show worldwide, stars of H&A are not big celebrities, most people in the UK probably couldn't name more than one or two H&A characters or actors, past or present.

Whilst some of the actors might feel like they are too good for H&A and leave only to realise that nobody knows who they are, or even cares, there are probably people who decide that they don't want to be in the public eye anymore and just want to lead a normal life rather than having their face all over the magazine covers and stuff.

That's a very good point. Lots of them just want to go back to having normal jobs and lives.

But I think the original poster was talking about the ones who leave to try and be famous. And I agree with her to an extent. I mean when they say "I'm going to leave and crack hollywood", doesn't it occur to them to look at the number of ex-H&A stars who said the same, and the number who succeeded (very very few, if you can even call that success). If it was me I'd stick with H&A. The phrase "know your limits" comes to mind.

Yeah, they think that because they are popular on an Aussie soap that they have what it takes to make it big in Hollywood movies, when in reality, they probably don't. There's so much competition, it's a cut-throat world and most of them don't make it. It's a bit different being a star in a soap with a few million viewers to being big in Hollywood, loads of soap stars end up doing panto because they can't find any other acting work beside small bit-parts in the odd drama series here and there.

Just look at Holly Valance, she thought she was going to make it big, she left Neighbours and released a single which sold fairly well I think, but then the next time we saw her she was on the Reverse Charge adverts! I think she's doing a film now, a movie version of Dead Or Alive Beach Volleyball or something!

Yeah but if you’re a passionate actor or actress I think its important to follow your dreams, and if your dreams involve the big screen well then go for it and try, its good to have self-assurance in this industry. When they say they want to crack Hollywood, they obviously honestly mean it. Just the same for actors who want to go full time in theatre, or remain in small-screen productions.

I've always wondered, people like Richie Gudgeon, Bruce Roberts etc if Home and Away wanted them to come back for a 6 week guest stint, whether or not they'd accept.
