Extended Summary

Theo leaves a phone message for Tane, trying to find out what’s going on with Perri. Justin approaches him and Theo jokingly calls him a stranger. Justin says he stayed the night at a motel. He wants to head to the garage but Theo tells him he’s done everything, including the invoices. Justin is surprised but accepts it and agrees to go for a drink with him instead.

At the police station, Tane tells Rose that Carl drowning shouldn’t make any difference but Rose says they can’t ignore it and until Perri makes a statement everything Tane say is just hearsay. Tane insists he didn’t know where Perri was until he turned up at the house wanting to turn himself in. Harper tries to calm things and Tane tells her that Perri shouldn’t speak to anyone until he’s got a lawyer.

At the Diner, Marilyn is on the phone to Alf saying she’ll organise everything. She tells Leah that Alf just suddenly took off to see Martha in Merimbula without telling anyone. Leah offers to help out but Marilyn says Alf would rather she sorted things out with Justin. Leah says Justin wanted space and refuses to make the first move.

At the police station, Jane Lazzari of Legal Aid arrives. Even though Tane called her, he isn’t impressed, calling her the work experience kid. Jane asks to speak to Perri alone and gets details from him: He explains about there being an AVO out against Carl, how it was self-defence and how he ran because the police didn’t believe him last time. Jane calls Rose in, saying they’re ready to make a statement.

Tane continues to fret to Harper. She worries that there’s something he’s not telling her and he says the less she knows the better. In the interview room, Perri tells Rose that Carl was holding him under the water and he thought he was going to die, so he grabbed Carl’s shirt and rolled him over, which caused him to go into the water and hit his head: There was blood everywhere and he wasn’t moving. Rose asks if he checked for Carl’s pulse or tried to get him out. Jane says that’s enough and Rose ends the interview. Jane tells Tane that there’ll be a bail hearing tomorrow and she’s no idea what will happen.

Harper and Tane arrive at the surf club, since Harper needs something to eat. Tane worries about Perri not making bail. Harper says Tane had to go to the police or he’d be an accessory. She says the main thing is to make sure Perri has something to wear at the bail hearing. Tane says he’ll do that while Harper goes and eats. Shortly after, Tane is letting Theo into the house having found him on the doorstep. He tells him that Perri turned himself in and has been charged with murder. He notes that if anyone finds out they knew where he was, they’ll be considered accessories to murder but thinks Perri will keep quiet.

Marilyn has had dinner with Leah at the Morgan house. Leah notes that the house must feel empty with Alf and Roo away and Marilyn suggests that house is empty without Justin. Marilyn insists on doing a tarot reading despite Leah’s objections and produces the eight of wands, which she calls an action card signifying communication. Leah continues to insist she’s not going to go to Justin. Theo arrives and says he had a drink with Justin and he’s staying at the motel. However, he refuses to act as a go-between for them.

Next morning, Justin meets with Theo near the beach. Theo is equally determined not to get involved between him and Leah, saying he’s worried about Perri. Justin says it must be hard not to be able to talk to him. Theo starts to say something but then Marilyn turns up and starts trying to convince Justin to contact Leah. Justin says it’s between them and he’s in the middle of a conversation. After Marilyn has gone, Justin turns back to Theo but he says it was nothing, although he does agree with Marilyn.

Rose takes Perri to meet with Jane in the interview room. Jane tells him that going on the run might make the magistrate see him as a flight risk but it would help if he says who he was with so they can testify about his state of mind. Perri doesn’t want to get anyone into trouble despite Jane saying she’s only there to represent him.

Some time later, Tane and Harper arrive as Perri is being taken back to his cell. They hand over his suit which Rose gives to him, insisting she’s on his side. Jane attempts to quiz Tane about where Perri was but he says he can’t help. Harper asks Rose why she doesn’t believe Tane, and Rose asks who else would have helped Perri.

Marilyn runs into Leah walking through a park area and tries to convince her that Justin does care. Leah says it’s her problem but Marilyn asks if it really matters who started it. A short time later, Justin meets with Leah in the park area. They indulge in awkward chit-chat until Leah asks Justin what he got up to at the motel last night. Things get heated as Justin thinks she was implying something with them both threatening to walk away.

Theo meets with Rose near the beach and asks her about what’s going on with Perri. Rose mentions the fact Perri won’t give them information about where he was hiding, which won’t look good at the hearing. She thinks he’s protecting Tane, who’s on a suspended sentence and could get twenty years if he’s seen as assisting after a murder.

Not too far away, Tane and Harper are standing by the beach. Harper asks what Tane isn’t telling her. Tane admits he found out where Perri was on the day he turned up and gave him the choice to hand himself in. He doesn’t think it will be an issue because no-one involved will want to tell the police.

Theo turns up at the police station. Rose thinks he’s trying to see Perri but Theo explains he’s there to turn himself in: It wasn’t Tane who was hiding Perri, it was him.
