Marilyn is stuck in a web of lies. Mali gets Rose’s hopes up. Has Justin invited danger into his home?
Extended Summary
Leah and Marilyn chat at the coffee cart. Marilyn says she still wants to pay John back for Jett’s wedding. Leah says Marilyn can have as many shifts as she likes while Irene’s away. When Leah mentions giving up the skincare line, Marilyn quickly changes the subject and asks if Leah’s taking a break. Leah says she was meant to have lunch with Justin but he’s running late.
At the hospital, Bree tells Justin that the social worker has been delayed which gives them more time. Andrew anxiously says he needs to go home. Rose turns up with Xander and Bree has to go to look at him. Justin tells Andrew they need to make sure there’s someone at his home to look after him. Andrew says he’s not allowed to talk about it. Bree checks over Xander, who suggests it’s internal muscular pain. Bree decides to send him for an ultrasound. Xander tells her Rose and Mali are talking again and tells Rose he feels bad about throwing her under the bus with Mali. Rose admits it broke the ice.
Mali is hosing down boards outside the surf club and texts Rose to ask for news on Xander. Nearby, John tells Alf that he’s keeping the decorators on schedule with painting and lighting. Alf says John’s doing a good job and adds not to stuff it up. Mali asks what logo John chose and John says he’ll have to wait and see.
At the Diner, Leah suggests she and Marilyn take turns checking on Irene’s place but Marilyn says she’s happy to do it. Roo and a newly-arrived Alf ask Marilyn if she’s heard from Stunning Organics. She says she hasn’t and they both think the company backed off when Marilyn stood up to them. Marilyn again seems keen to get out of the conversation but Roo insists on accompanying her to the coffee cart.
Mali notices John has got a new dishwasher. With some prompting, John says he’s grateful for Mali’s contributions. Mali says John hasn’t paid his invoice for the designs. John protests the post-it note said they were free. Mali asks if John still has the post-it note and suggests a phone call is from his lawyer. (It’s actually from Rose, saying Xander’s fine.) John realises he’s winding him up and says he’ll have to call the lawyer to find out about the logo.
Bree brings Andrew some biscuits but he says he’s had lunch and can’t eat again until dinner. Justin suggests they call his parents and Bree suggests he write down their number or his full name. Andrew haltingly writes “Andrew” and doesn’t answer when Bree asks about his last name. Justin privately shows Bree the note in the same handwriting. Bree notices his literacy levels are low and Justin speculates that he doesn’t go to school, on top of being scared and having weird rules.
Roo helps Marilyn set up the coffee cart. Marilyn tries to ignore a message, which is actually a notification that her next Stunning Organics delivery is due tomorrow. However, she tells Roo that they want her to meet with their lawyer. Somehow, Roo is fooled by her claiming the lawyer is called Kevin Planter and she’s not going to answer straightaway to let them sweat.
Justin tells Bree he’ll stay while the social worker and psychologist talk to Andrew. He calls Leah at the Diner, telling her he had to bring someone into hospital and agreeing to call her when he’s done. Leah shares the news with Alf.
At the flat, Rose is frustrated to find Xander making himself a cup of coffee. Xander protests that the ultrasound said that he only had bruising. Mali turns up and offers to shout them all dinner. Xander says he’ll have an early night and Rose and Mali should go. They awkwardly agree. Xander also convinces them that Rose should take over his surfing lessons until he’s better. At the coffee cart, Roo fills Alf in on Marilyn’s supposed meeting with Stunning Organics. Alf tells Marilyn that they’re running scared and she should make sure that they tear up her contract.
Bree calls Justin away from Andrew and explains the psychologist said he doesn’t have an intellectual disability but his social and educational development is that of an eight or nine year old. Andrew will have to be discharged soon, and they can’t send him back to the house on his own, so the social worker will arrange emergency accommodation. Justin isn’t keen on the idea. He meets with Leah and explains the situation with Andrew. They both agree a group house wouldn’t be good for him. Justin starts to ask something but Leah agrees before he can.
Justin arrives home with Andrew and introduces him and Leah to each other. Leah tells Andrew he can rest in his room if he wants or have food or help himself. Andrew says he’s not allowed to. Justin says he is while he’s there. Andrew seems nervous around Leah so she suggests Justin show him to his room. Later, the three of them finish eating. Andrew starts to clear his plate away but Justin says he’ll do that. They suggest he watch telly. Andrew asks what time it is and, on learning it’s almost 8.30, says he has to go to bed. He stands still as if expecting something else and Justin says he doesn’t need permission. After he’s gone, Leah notes Justin wasn’t exaggerating.
At Salt, Rose and Mali discuss how Xander’s doing. Bree turns up and says she was about to text Rose to see if she wanted takeaway. Rose says they’re just having a drink and Mali reminds her they’re meant to be having dinner. Rose suggests Bree join them. Bree gets a call from Remi and Rose asks if she’s screening it. Bree answers the call and leaves them to it. Rose says she only invited Bree to join them because she’s missing Remi.
Roo finds Marilyn closing up the Diner and asks when the meeting is. Marilyn says eleven o’clock and Roo says she’s going with her. Marilyn tries to put her off, saying the company will feel ambushed. Roo says she’s the one who had the reaction and that she’ll let Marilyn take the lead but is going to take notes.
Andrew wanders through the house during the night and goes to Leah and Justin’s bedroom. He watches them sleeping with a curious look on his face.
