Extended Summary

Justin and Ava walk on the beach together. Ava asks about him and Leah, saying she heard them arguing last night. Justin tries to say it was nothing to do with her but Ava heard Leah asking when she was leaving. Justin assures her that he wants her around. Meanwhile, Kirby is advising Theo against trying to please Leah and Justin, asking him what he wants. Theo admits he’d rather stay there. Kirby convinces him to stick around and help her work on a new song.

At the farm house, Mackenzie is reading a pamphlet when Gabe appears. He has to fight the urge to throw up but says he got bored of staring at the ceiling: He has just had his first round of chemo and curls up on the sofa. Mackenzie offers him tea or soup but he says he doesn’t want anything right now. Mackenzie offers an ice block and he asks her to sit with him for a bit. Meanwhile, Roo goes to the Diner and tells Irene that Leah’s not coming in for her shift. Irene guesses it’s something to do with Ava. Roo says Ava’s more troubled than they first thought.

At the Morgan house, Justin and Ava are making biscuits together and he jokes she could take the bins out and clean the bathroom if she wants to prove how grown-up she is. Justin takes one of the biscuits and Ava talks about wanting to own her own business and go travelling. Leah arrives home during the talk and asks to talk to Justin in private in the bedroom, admitting she doesn’t know where to start. Ava puts the rest of the biscuits in a tin and leaves. Leah shows Justin the photo. Justin suggests Ava might have posted it before Kirby found the scrap book but Leah suggests she would have taken it down if she was over it. Justin feels bad about defending her but doesn’t know what to do.

Theo and Kirby are performing the new song together. Ava comes to the door and looks unhappy to see them getting on, but then barges into the house with a large grin on her face, saying she’s brought biscuits. Theo and Kirby look on bewildered as she says she’ll put the kettle on.

Theo tries to quiz Ava about if Justin knows where she is. Ava indicates Kirby isn’t as good a singer as Theo, ignoring Theo saying she can’t say that. Kirby tells Ava to come outside with her and Theo agrees. Ava accuses Kirby of being jealous and says Theo acts different in front of her. Kirby says Theo moved out to get away from her but Ava says it’s because he was scared of acting on his feelings for her. Kirby says Ava and Theo will never happen and Ava claims it already has. Kirby tells Ava to go.

Kirby goes back inside. Theo understand she was right to set Ava straight. Kirby notes they sounded good before she showed up. Before they can get back to singing, Kirby gets a text from Ava with the photos of her in Theo’s room and shows them to him. Meanwhile, Justin leaves a phone message for Ava. Leah announces she’s moving out to give him and Ava space. Justin wants her to stay, saying he doesn’t know what he’s doing. Leah thinks he’ll do a better job if she’s not there, saying she’ll stay with Roo and Marilyn for a few days. Justin worries about making things up to Theo.

Mackenzie has made some food but Gabe has barely touched his soup. Mackenzie worries about him getting dehydrated. Gabe snaps that this is what chemo is like, before apologising for taking it out on her. He feels sick and says he needs to go and lie down, declining her offer of help. He looks back and sees her crying. Later, Gabe reappears and says he’s feeling better. He asks for some gelato. Mackenzie says she’ll get some delivered but Gabe convinces her to go to the surf club. He hugs and kisses her, telling her he loves her. At the surf club, Mackenzie runs into Roo while getting the gelato. She looks over at the closed board shop and admits to Roo that she misses Dean. She explains about Gabe, and Roo sympathises.

Theo and Kirby exit the house. Theo feels he needs to go and see Justin and convince him that nothing happened with Ava. Unseen by either of them, Ava watches them arguing from a distance and smiles. As soon as she’s gone, Theo and Kirby both calm down. Kirby says she’s going to go and hang out with Rose to give them space. Theo still worries that Justin will believe Ava over him.  He heads to the Morgan house and starts trying to explain about the selfies but Justin cuts him off, saying he knows Theo had nothing to do with it. He apologises for not understanding and asks Theo to stay and help him with Ava.

Mackenzie returns home and calls out for Gabe, not getting a response. She tries to call him, wondering if the hospital called him back in, then realises he’s left her a note. She reads it, looking disappointed.
