Cash misreads Eden’s signals. Remi has a new lease on life. John and Alf clash.
Extended Summary
Outside the surf club, Remi and Eden are chatting about him taking her to a hospital appointment. Eden suggests he was hoping to meet Bree. John appears and Eden reminds him of their card game. John says he prefers Scrabble and Remi claims Eden’s a Scrabble person, which she denies. John suggests they have a game and invite Cash, then says he’ll look up a date for Scrabble in his diary.
At the Diner, Irene serves Justin a takeaway moussaka and comments on him letting Ava go to the movies, suggesting it’s rewarding her for telling lies. Justin says she’s not a kid anymore and Irene quips that she’ll soon be sneaking out her window to meet a River Boy. Alf and Marilyn arrive and Alf complains about getting a message from John about the IT upgrade tomorrow. Marilyn suggests there must be a reason the committee voted for it. Alf retorts that they’re flaming galahs conned by a total moron.
At the Parata house, Nikau leaves Tane a message asking him to let him know he’s okay. Cash returns from talking to Felicity and says her behaviour isn’t about Tane. Nikau tells him about Tane taking off and Cash suggests space might do them good. Nikau blames himself for confronting Felicity about the drinking but Cash says he did the right thing.
At Salt, Remi tells Eden he might try his physio exercises tomorrow. Eden reminds him he’s been putting it off for days. Remi tells her about his talk with Bree and also that he’s planning to talk to Justin. Cash comes in at that point and makes awkward small talk with Eden. After Cash has gone to the bar, Eden tells Remi she wants to go and he agrees, although he also thinks she can’t keep secrets from Cash forever.
Next morning, Eden sets up a tablet with details of the exercises as Remi arrives back with coffee. She sits him down and insists on watching him. Remi slowly makes a fist with his hand and asks Eden to talk to him while he’s doing it. He asks her about Cash. Eden says she gets more confused the more she remembers. Echoing one of her comments, Remi says the pain will be worth it.
Outside the surf club, Alf asks Justin if he’s seen John, complaining that the woman doing the IT upgrade has arrived. John pulls up in the buggy and says he’s been putting the flags out and tried to call Alf about when the upgrade was yesterday. Justin excuses himself and Alf refuses to have anything to do with the upgrade, telling John to go handle it. John heads inside, where Nikau is finishing off a phone conversation with Tane that seems to have put him at ease. John tries to ask the IT woman how long it will take and wonders if the WiFi will reach the caravan park.
At the Diner, Alf orders another coffee from Marilyn and says he’s avoiding John. Irene gives Justin another takeaway and he says he’s hoping to give Ava a surf lesson today. However, he then gets a text from her about going to Yabbie Creek to look at guitars with Theo and Kirby. Irene asks what he’s trying to achieve and Justin says he wants to know what’s going on and for her to be happy. Irene says Ava needs her dad, not a friend.
Down on the beach, John boasts to Nikau that he’s still got one bar from the router and could do all his work there. Cash approaches and Nikau tells him Tane’s with friends in the city. John tells Cash about seeing Eden yesterday. Cash notes she wouldn’t talk to him. At Lyrik’s house, Remi again tries to encourage Eden to tell Cash she’s remembered things. Eden says Cash would give her that hopeful look and doesn’t want to hurt him again. Remi suggests she’s doing that now.
At the coffee cart, Irene quizzes Cash about Felicity moving out to a van. Eden approaches and Irene chats to her about being out of hospital. Eden stops Cash walking away, asking to talk. At the surf club, John brags to Nikau about the successful update and suggests Nikau buy him a beer to celebrate, also wanting to know why Tane hired someone to run the gym. Alf turns up, looking for the minutes of the last meeting. He turns down John’s offer to show him how to log in.
Justin is on the phone to Nina, telling her there is no boyfriend and promising to get to the bottom of it and make sure Ava does her school work. He lets Remi into the house. Justin chats to him about the gig and leaving early, saying Theo and Kirby appreciated him being there. Remi says he has an idea. Later, Justin shows Remi the gigs that have been rearranged. He expresses surprise that Remi is suddenly interested but Remi says he’s still part of the band and wants to help out. Justin notes he could use some help with Ava staying with him. Remi saw her at the gig and is happy to take on work so Justin can concentrate on her.
Eden and Cash walk near the surf club. Eden tries to chat about getting her license back but Cash senses there’s something else going on and tells her to talk to him. Eden has a flashback to him saying the same thing and her accusing him of ignoring her saying she loved him. She tells Cash she wanted to ask him about Felicity. Cash says she always knew when he needed to talk, then apologises. Eden takes his hand, holding it just long enough for them both to get uncomfortable.
John and Nikau come downstairs at the surf club to be greeted by an irate Alf, who accuses John of drinking at work. John says he’s clocked off but is happy to do some overtime. Alf complains that he can’t get into the accounts. John shows him how to enter a new password but Alf gets frustrated at all the restrictions (he can’t use one he’s already used and has to have at least eight characters including a number and symbol) and walks out.
Cash and Eden arrive back at the Lyrik house. Cash comments that he didn’t realise how much he needed to vent about Felicity and worries that she and Tane might not work it out. He and Eden both reflect on if it’s meant to be. Eden invites Cash in. Cash kisses her but she pulls away. Cash apologises and leaves.
