Not everyone is excited for Ziggy and Dean’s baby. John tests Irene’s patience.
Extended Summary
Remi runs into Justin outside the surf club and wonders if he’s seen Bree. Justin hasn’t and suggests she might have gone to the hospital. Remi sees Mackenzie on the balcony of Salt and calls up to her. Mackenzie says Bree left a while back, saying she was going back to Remi, and invites him up. Bree hurries into her motel room, still carrying the food from Salt. She locks the door and puts the chain on, then closes the windows. Her phone rings but she seems scared to look at it, retreating into the bathroom instead.
Dean is looking over Jai’s report card. Ziggy arrives home and tells him about Jacob being missing before asking about Jai’s parent/teacher day. Dean talks about being back at his old school and how tiny everything was. He notes Jai got a good report but there’s one item of concern: Jai did a picture of his family, which depicts Jai standing outside a house with a sad face and Dean, Ziggy and the baby inside.
At the Diner, Irene serves John a piccolo on oat, which she notes is his fourth coffee of the day. John is starting to get jittery from all the caffeine. Irene says just because he won the free coffee at the golf doesn’t mean he has to be there all day drinking coffee. John says he’s testing his options. Justin comes in and says he’s meeting Ziggy to discuss the car search. John uses the card to buy him a coffee, saying there’s nothing on it saying he has to use it for himself. Irene observes he’s testing the boundaries of friendship. Justin gets a text from Ziggy saying she can’t make it so John offers to help out.
At Salt, Remi expresses horror that Mackenzie let Bree go with Jacob on the loose. Mackenzie says Bree said her car was just outside. Remi is on the verge of calling the police when Bree calls, saying she panicked and she’s at the motel. Remi says he’s on his way, telling Mackenzie he has to go. At the motel, Bree hears a knock on the door but doesn’t answer until Remi calls out that it’s him. She pulls him into the room, putting the chain on again afterwards, and says she’s scared.
Dean and Ziggy note they thought Jai was excited about the baby. Dean says Amber was just as shocked as him and worries he’s taken his eye off the ball, despite Ziggy trying to argue he’s tried to make Jai feel included. Justin turns up, wondering if it’s a good time to talk about the car. Dean says no, but since Justin’s a parent, Ziggy suggests he could help.
After having the situation explained to him, Justin thinks it takes time to adjust. Mackenzie arrives and they show her the picture. Ziggy recalls getting a new sister but Justin admits that, if it was Ava, he’d wonder what was going on in her head. Dean asks Mackenzie what she thinks. Mackenzie says she’s not a parent so she doesn’t have anything to say.
Bree apologises to Remi for not calling him and says she feels safe with him. Remi thinks they should go back to his, since Jacob will know to look for her there, but Bree is worried about Jacob finding them together and thinks Remi should go. Remi thinks she should call the police. Later, Bree is on speakerphone to a police constable, who says they’ll check out Jacob’s accommodation and to call 000 if he turns up. She also recommends staying with a friend. After Bree’s hung up, she gets a notification that Jacob has emptied their joint account and closed it. Remi suggests he’s taken the money to start again somewhere but Bree is still worried he’s coming after her.
Next morning, Justin calls round to see Ziggy, saying he was just wondering how she is. Ziggy says she’s doing her best to keep Dean and Jai happy but admits that, on a selfish level, she feels they need to be getting ready for the baby: She hasn’t been able to get a nursery set up and doesn’t feel able to put a cot in Jai’s room because she worries about how he’d feel.
Dean and Mackenzie arrive at the surf club. Dean wonders why Mackenzie hasn’t said anything, given she usually has an opinion. Mackenzie admits that she’s been in Jai’s position: She only saw their father at weekends and, when he got a new son and daughter, he lost interest in her. She knows Dean isn’t like Rick but says it’s not nice to feel like you can be replaced.
Remi is dozing on the bed while Bree is sat on a chair. The constable from earlier phones and Bree puts her on speakerphone. She says that there’s no sign of Jacob but no evidence that he’s left the state: They’re not issuing a warrant for his arrest yet but she reiterates to call 000 if he turns up. Remi again tries to convince Bree to come back to his. Bree doesn’t want to get him and his friends involved and says she’ll move to a different room.
Justin turns up at Salt and tells Mackenzie that Ziggy is worried about her and the baby coming second behind Jai. He points out that Ziggy can’t set up a nursery while Mackenzie’s there. Mackenzie protests that she said she’d move out, but every time she mentions it to Dean, he shuts the conversation down, thinking he’s doing what’s best for her. Justin wryly comments on everyone doing what’s best for everyone else.
Dean is finishing a phone conversation with Amber as Ziggy turns up. He notes Jai hasn’t gone to school, even though he loves it. He and Ziggy both conclude they’re not in the mood to go to the bucks and hens nights. Justin and Mackenzie come down. Mackenzie says she’s going to look for a new place so Ziggy can set up a nursery and Jai can keep his room. She says she’ll stay in Jai’s room when he isn’t there, then move out to a motel. Justin offers to help out. Ziggy is pleased but Dean isn’t exactly following the conversation.
Justin and Mackenzie retreat back to Salt. Justin says it’s the first time he’s been kicked out for offering to decorate. He suggests Mackenzie help out too and she agrees that the baby won’t notice if she does a poor job. John turns up and asks for a water, since he’s had enough coffee. Having heard part of the conversation, John offers Mackenzie a room at his: She’s clean, she’s employed, and she won’t find many people willing to ignore her rental history. Mackenzie says she’ll bear it in mind but isn’t exactly jumping at the idea.
Back at the farm house, Ziggy shows Dean a mobile that Maggie made her promise to use and a scrap book of ideas, including a room with surf boards on the walls. Dean is bewildered that this is important to her and says he’d have set up the room. Ziggy says they didn’t have a room to set up and she didn’t want to upset Jai. Dean asks why she didn’t say something and she admits she didn’t know how.
