Extended Summary

Tane and Rose run into each other on the beach. Tane suggests Rose join his boot camp but Rose says she spent too much time last night drinking with Cash and Gary. Tane is surprised and admits he hasn’t really spoken to Gary but tells her Felicity’s invited him over. At the house, Felicity politely but awkwardly pours water for Cash and Gary. Cash comments that it’s been a while since they were all in the same room. Felicity says it was when she forced him to leave home with her. Gary reminds her she said she wanted to talk. Cash suggests he make coffee but Gary asks him to leave him and Felicity alone. Felicity agrees. Gary comments that Cash has always been protective of her. Felicity says she’ll make coffee.

At the Diner, Irene, Roo and Marilyn have laid out the leading ideas for the fundraiser: A walk-a-thon, a golf tournament and a silent disco. Roo is in favour of the walk-a-thon while Marilyn likes the silent disco (which Irene doesn’t really understand). They discuss the golf for a bit and Roo suggests thinking again but Irene insists on sticking with the golf. Cash comes in and Irene tells him not to ask.

Gary and Felicity make polite chit-chat before Felicity suggests they just tell Cash everything is sorted. Gary isn’t keen on lying to him so Felicity suggests he can go and she’ll take the blame. Gary says he’ll go if she wants, and she can tell Cash what she likes, but he’d like to give it a go. Felicity remarks Cash has a dream of them playing happy families. Gary suggests they forget Cash and see what they want.

Cash joins Justin at the garage to ask how he’s getting on with the ute, asking if it will be ready for the wedding. Justin says it’ll be hard to get parts and asks when it was last driven. Cash says he was twelve. Justin says you can hire a car for a wedding but Cash explains it’s their dad’s old ute. Justin understands and Cash is hoping that Gary’s involvement with help build bridges. He offers to help out.

Felicity tells Gary they can’t go back and she can’t make up for the hell she put him through. Gary says that’s not how he remembers it: She was nine years old, a confused and scared kid who was still grieving her mum when she lost her dad too. Felicity asks why he’s so forgiving. Gary says he didn’t have the words back then but he and Kath loved her and he promised to always be there for her.

Justin and Cash talk about the fact Cash saw his dad working on the ute. Justin says he was the same with his dad. They try to start the engine but it fails to catch, even with Justin making adjustments. Cash says there’s power to the dashboard. He turns the radio on and is delighted when it plays his dad’s favourite song.

Gary finds Felicity sat by the pool. She says her dad knew he was abandoning them all, and it was easier to believe that he was murdered and Gary had covered it up: She didn’t want anyone to replace him. Gary says he could never have filled Matthew’s shoes and never knew how to comfort Felicity and make her feel safe. Felicity says she’s sorry. Gary hugs her and notes she’s just like her mum: Tough on the outside, soft on the inside, and the same smile. Felicity admits she doesn’t really remember her. Gary offers to share some stories of her.

At the Diner, Alf congratulates Roo and Marilyn on their idea. Marilyn wonders about getting young people involved. Rose, who is being served by Irene, chimes in that golf isn’t just for retirees: She used to play with her dad and entered a police golf tournament and won a holiday. Roo says that’s what they should do. Marilyn thinks she means involving the police but she actually means getting a great prize. After Marilyn and Roo have gone, Alf and Irene fill Rose in.

At the garage, Cash is looking over the ute and finds a necklace. He tells Justin it was his mum’s favourite. His dad turned the house upside down looking for it when she lost it and it was there all the time. Meanwhile, Felicity and Gary look through some old photos, noting Felicity’s hair. Gary says her parents’ Christmas dinners were popular and reminds her of her mum’s stuffing. He says they were always the last ones standing at the ball. Felicity says she got their party gene. Gary says they’d have approved of Tane if he made her happy. Tane comes home and Felicity formally introduces him and Gary to each other.

Tane and Felicity show Gary around Salt and they recall how Gary used to drag Felicity out of the pub for underage drinking every Friday night. Tane says it was Felicity’s idea to have live music there. Cash arrives and expresses surprise that Gary and Felicity are both alive. Tane and Gary grab a table. Felicity tells Cash about apologising to Gary and apologises for biting Cash’s head off for inviting him there. Cash admits he did ambush her.

Outside the Stewart house, Roo and Marilyn discuss arranging a golf course. Alf chimes in, offering to help out and suggesting they arrange a date first before talking sponsorship. Roo says she’s e-mailing golf clubs. Rose arrives with the programme from the tournament she attended and offers to help out, while Roo calls a club.

Back at Salt, Tane tells Gary the plan for a beach wedding and hangi. At the bar, Felicity wonders why she took so long to make things up. Cash shows her the necklace, explaining it was their mum’s. Felicity remembers it: Their mum said the horseshoe brought her luck and always clutched it when making a wish. Cash says he found it going through some old things and offers to fix it for her to wear it at the wedding. Felicity gets a text saying a courier’s dropped something off at home and says she’d better grab it before John reports a suspicious package.

Cash and Felicity hurry back to the house. Felicity grabs the box in delight and takes it inside. She opens the box and reveals the wedding invitations. As she looks at them however, her expression turns to concern. Back at Salt, Tane tells Gary about Ari owning the gym and Mia passing it to him when he died. Gary has a proposition: He wants to pay for the wedding. He isn’t sure if Felicity will accept it so he’s hoping to persuade Tane first so he’ll put it to her.

Cash is confused by Felicity’s change of mood. Felicity says that the invitations aren’t her and she can’t back out once they’re sent out. Cash asks if she wants to back out. Felicity isn’t sure she can do the wedding.
