Extended Summary

Tane and Felicity are down on the beach. Tane comments that now he’s got Chloe working for him he’s got a lot more time for fun stuff. Felicity is distracted however, worrying about Mackenzie’s court appearance. Tane tells her that stressing about it won’t help but Felicity thinks they should be doing something. At Salt, Dean and Ziggy have managed to calm Mackenzie down somewhat. She tells Dean she can’t do what he said if the worst comes to the worst. Dean points out she needs to turn up to court and own her mistakes. Ziggy agrees. Dean reminds her burying her head in the sand caused all this. Mackenzie agrees to go to court.

At the Morgan house, Leah is amused at Justin staring at his phone waiting for a text from Theo about his result and quips it’s like he’s waiting for news of his assignment. Justin suggests they get him an engraved set of tools to reward him. Leah thinks food and beer will do. Meanwhile, Felicity and Tane arrive at Salt. Tane finds a folder with a letter addressed to Felicity in it. She is at first amused and then deeply worried as the letter, addressed to “new boss”, says that if Mackenzie’s sat in a cell somewhere, it’s up to Felicity to run Salt and her solicitor has the details. Felicity is shocked that Mackenzie actually thinks she’s not coming back.

At the farm house, Ziggy quietly tells Dean to behave himself. Mackenzie appears and asks about her outfit, wondering if it makes her look honest and contrite. Ziggy offers to go with her but Mackenzie says she only needs one witness to her humiliation. Ziggy gives her a hug and Dean a kiss goodbye. At Salt, Felicity is in even more of a panic, especially since she still blames herself for the trouble. Tane says Mackenzie made decisions against Felicity’s advice and she needs Felicity to keep her business going.

At the Diner, Leah asks Marilyn how things are going with Tex. Marilyn is glad to have help but not interested in Leah’s comments on his looks, saying she takes being his supervisor seriously. Justin gets a call from Theo and beckons Leah over. He loudly celebrates Theo getting 82% and a distinction, with Leah calling out that she’s proud of him. Justin ends the call then refers to himself as acing it. He tries to make out he meant as a mentor but Leah asks how much Theo actually did. Justin tries to suggest he was just showing Theo what he needed to do but Leah says it’s not right to hand in someone else’s work. Justin quickly retreats to go surfing.

Felicity is despondent, feeling she’s going to sink Salt, especially because they were in debt already. Tane says he didn’t mean to end up running the gym but turned out to be good at it. Felicity goes to take an order. Outside the surf club, Ziggy is delighted when both Dean and Mackenzie appear. Mackenzie is relieved and says she got a good behaviour bond and a hefty fine…more than she can pay. Upstairs, Tane is trying to convince Felicity she’s a natural running the place. At that point, Mackenzie, Dean and Ziggy come in. Felicity is initially delighted to see Mackenzie but then remarks that now she isn’t going to get guilted into running the place for her and accuses her of dumping it on her.

Justin finds Leah waiting on the beach after his surf. She immediately brings up Theo again, saying he needs to call TAFE and let them know Theo cheated. Justin says it was his fault and he got carried away. He suggests they just talk to Theo but Leah doesn’t think he’ll learn anything that way. On the Salt balcony, Mackenzie tries to convince Felicity she thought she was the best person. Felicity thinks Mackenzie chose her because she knew she’d be guilty enough to do it. Mackenzie says Felicity’s the only person she trusted. Felicity suggests Dean or Ziggy; Mackenzie says Dean would make it his personal beer fridge and Ziggy fixes engines. Felicity eventually accepts Mackenzie thought she could run it and Mackenzie apologises for just dropping it on her and says the fine and debt are her problem now.

Downstairs, Ziggy wonders why Dean isn’t happier. Dean says Mackenzie still has her debt to deal with. Mackenzie comes down and says she and Felicity have sorted things out and she needs to talk to her solicitor. Felicity joins Dean and Ziggy, thinking Mackenzie is holding something back. Dean follows Mackenzie down to the beach and tries to get her to look on the bright side. Mackenzie says she never thought about what would happen if she didn’t go to jail: She lost her boyfriend, she’s homeless and she could still lose Salt since she’s worse off than when she started. Dean promises to stand by her.

Felicity goes to find Tane in the gym and notes not going to jail hasn’t solved Mackenzie’s problems. She is determined to help Mackenzie out as thanks for covering for her. At the Morgan house, Leah sits staring at Justin as he tries to get out of making the phone call to TAFE. He argues that Theo will feel betrayed but Leah says they need him to be honest. She hands Justin the TAFE number before heading back to work. Justin makes the call, saying he needs to talk to them about one of their students.

Mackenzie is sat on the sofa at the farm house composing a To Do list which starts with sorting out a payment plan with court. Felicity knocks on the door; Mackenzie initially doesn’t respond, but when Felicity points out her car’s on the drive, she calls her in. Felicity says she has an idea how to pay off her debt.
