Extended Summary

Amber approaches Dean outside the surf club and tells him she finished work early so she can pick Jai up from school. Dean says he can get an extra surf in. Amber leaves, passing Ziggy, who asks Dean if he’s heard from Mackenzie: He hasn’t since he’s been doing surf lessons all days, but did hear about Ari waking up from Bella. Ziggy gets a call from Tane asking for help with Mack and Dean decides to go with her. At the farm house, Tane tries to help Mackenzie make a cup of tea but she says she’s pregnant not dying. Ziggy and Dean arrive. Tane isn’t sure what they’ve been told so Mackenzie says they both know. Tane is somewhat put out that they all know and Ari doesn’t.

At the Diner, Alf tells Roo and Ryder that Martha’s doing okay. Ryder gets a phone call from Ziggy on Mackenzie’s phone asking him to cover since she’s sick. Roo is going to the gym so goes with him. Justin comes in and tells Leah he’s just been surfing and still has loads of energy. He asks Marilyn if she can manage without Leah for an hour. Leah says she’ll get her bag but Justin drags her out, saying she won’t be needing it. Once outside, Leah wonders if the doctor OK’d the surf. Justin says he doesn’t need a doctor to tell him what he can do. He reflects on how not so long ago he wasn’t surf if he could walk again.

Roo and Ryder arrive at Salt. Ryder looks around, saying he’s there in a managerial role and needs to know what staff he has. Roo says Chloe isn’t there. She wonders if something happened, since Ryder’s gone from banging on about how annoying she is to never mentioning her. Ryder admits she kissed him. Roo sits down and asks for a glass of rose. Meanwhile, Amber and Jai arrive back at the flat. Jai calls out for Dean but he isn’t home. Jai is disappointed, since he wanted to play footy with him. Amber tells him to go get changed while she calls Dean.

Tane wonders who exactly knows about the pregnancy. Dean says Ari doesn’t because he’s in a coma. Tane points out he’s awake now. Dean reminds Mackenzie she was going to tell Ari before the accident. Mackenzie says it’s complicated. Ziggy gets both Dean and Tane to leave, saying Mackenzie needs space. Dean and Tane head for the surf club. Tane is going back to the hospital. Dean thinks Ari should know whether Mackenzie keeps the baby or not. Tane looks concerned that she might not.

Ryder explains what happened and asks Roo to give him some advice in exchange for the interrogation. Roo thinks that Chloe likes him and asks if he likes her. Ryder say he’s not not into her. Roo leaves as Tane turns up and orders takeaway. Ryder asks him how Nikau and Chloe are doing. Tane says they’re better now Ari’s woken up. Ryder declines an offer to see them at the hospital, saying he needs to work there. Meanwhile, Jai claims he’s finished his meal and what’s left is for Dean. Dean arrives back and Amber says it’s too late for footy. Dean says they’ll get up early tomorrow and play. He and Jai prepare to play cards but then he gets a call from Ziggy. He awkwardly tells Amber it’s probably about Mack. Amber sends him to take the call while she plays with Jai.

Leah and Justin are now walking on the beach. Justin wants to build a pagola for the house while Leah wants more bench space for the kitchen. She gets a text from Marilyn saying she can handle the Diner so they decide to take a photo outside the house to give to Raffy and Brody. Meanwhile, Dean clears the table ready to do the washing up. Amber tells Jai to have a shower and go to bed. Dean reminds him he needs to get up early and chases him into the shower. Later, Leah and Justin show up outside the Diner and show Marilyn the picture of them in front of the Salt sign.

Tane turns up at the farm house, having been to the hospital. He asks Ziggy where Mackenzie is. Ziggy says she’s lying down and isn’t keen on Tane talking to him but Mackenzie appears and says she’ll hear him out. Tane says she shouldn’t tell Ari about the pregnancy if she doesn’t go ahead with it. Ziggy and Mackenzie are both confused about the conflicting advice. Tane asks if Mackenzie and Ari ever talked about children. He says Ari and Mia tried for a baby but she had miscarriages. The fourth time she fell pregnant, the baby was born premature and died at ten days old: A boy called Kuari. Tane notes Ari spiralled after that and a year later he was in jail.

Alf and Roo have turned up at Salt and question Ryder about Chloe. Roo is convinced that they like each other. At the bar, Alf suggests to Ryder that complicated women are usually worth it. At the farm house, Ziggy shows Tane out and understands why he felt Mackenzie needed to know. Ziggy goes back to Mackenzie, who is still undecided. Ziggy thinks Tane did the right thing telling her but Mackenzie doesn’t know what to do and asks to sit alone.

Dean joins Amber on the balcony and notes it took three stories to send Jai to sleep. He apologises for being held up, saying Mackenzie’s having troubles. They reminisce about camping on the beach. Amber recalls him making her walk through the bush for miles (Dean insists it was only a kilometre) to a deserted beach and thinks they conceived Jai that night. Dean suggests they could get those days back. Amber thinks Jai would be crushed if it didn’t work out but Dean insists they’re a family and he’s in it 100%. Amber walks back inside. During the night, Dean paces in his room while Amber emerges from her room and hovers by his door, with him on the other side. Just as she’s walking away, Dean opens the door. Amber wonders if he only wants this because they have a kid together. Dean insists he wants her. They kiss and go to the bed.
