Extended Summary

At the garage, Dean continues to try and persuade Ziggy to move back in with him. Ziggy however thinks that now he has a son his life is going to change a lot. Dean says it’s up to Amber how things progress with Jai. Ziggy says that’s the point: He needs to work out what’s going on before she can work out her role in it. Back at the Parata house, Mackenzie bangs on Tane’s door, trying to get him to talk to her. Tane tells her to forget it. Mackenzie thinks she should move out but Tane points out that would be hard to explain to Ari, who arrives home at that moment complaining that he’s bought a lock for the bathroom door but forgotten the milk. Tane makes himself scarce.

Dean sees Tane playing pool on his own at the surf club and Tane notes he came there to get away from the people he lives with. Amber comes in with Jai; Tane is surprised she has a son, but greets him in a friendly manner. Dean says he’s his as well and Tane backs off. Amber asks to talk outside. She tells Dean that Jai has a pupil-free day but her mum’s away on a cruise, her babysitter’s let her down and she needs to take John to a licence check. Dean initially thinks she wants him to give John a lift but she actually wants him to look after Jai. Dean agrees and offers to take Jai down the beach. Ziggy watches the three of them together (with Amber putting her arm round Dean) and looks uncomfortable.

At the Diner, Angelo makes his apologies to Taylor before heading off to work. He passes Colby who asks how things are going; Angelo says he’s not going to discuss the case with him and Colby retorts that he didn’t mention it. Colby joins Taylor and offers her a coffee. Later, the two of them go for a walk on the beach. Taylor notes Angelo said yes to the first rental place they saw and isn’t sure what she’s going to do: She worked as a massage therapist in the city but Angelo doesn’t take it seriously. Colby offers to introduce her to Willow so she can advertise via the gym.

At the surf club, Ziggy approaches Dean and Jai. Dean explains Amber asked him to look after Jai before they could talk. Ziggy suggests he has lunch at the garage but Dean isn’t sure about having Jai around the machinery. He suggests he gets in touch with her later once he knows what Amber’s doing. Later, Jai is trying to get Dean to let him have more pineapple. Colby and Taylor approach; Colby is introduced to Jai and introduces Taylor in turn. They explain Colby helped Taylor leave some flyers in the gym. Dean sends Jai upstairs then privately asks Colby what he’s doing: Even if Taylor falls for it, everyone will see what’s going on.

Ari isn’t entirely happy to learn Tane put a lock on the bathroom door before he could. He asks Mackenzie what was going on between the two of them before. Mackenzie says she’s just adjusting to living with three boys. Ari recalls how she didn’t flinch when he told her he’d been in prison and he knew then that she was special. They kiss. Later, the two of them are in bed and comment that staying there stops it being awkward. However, Mackenzie has to get to work. Pulling on a robe, she says she’s going to have a shower…but bumps straight into Tane outside the bedroom. They exchange a few awkward words before heading in opposite directions.

Colby finds Ziggy at the Diner and wonders what’s going on between her and Dean and when she’s moving home. Ziggy says she’s trying not to be jealous but isn’t keen on the way Amber is with Dean. Colby recalls Amber had a thing for Dean when they were kids but insists that Dean loves Ziggy. At the police station, Taylor arrives to meet Angelo for dinner. He doesn’t respond when she knocks on the door, and answers but doesn’t look round from his computer as she tells him about the flyers. He eventually turns to her to explain the car used to chase Ross has been found and, even though he’s not needed there, he wants to oversee the forensics team, meaning he needs to cancel dinner.

Tane approaches Mackenzie at Salt and says he accepts that she’s chosen Ari but thinks they need to be put on different shifts at work. Mackenzie agrees. Ari comes in, wondering if Mackenzie’s free for dinner. Mackenzie says Tane has just agreed to take over but instead of eating there suggests they go for a walk. Downstairs, Ziggy takes a deep breath before happily greeting Dean and Jai. Jai is doing a design for Dean to put on a surfboard and asks if he can teach him to surf. Amber arrives, confirming John has his licence back, and Ziggy says her goodbyes. Dean asks Amber to hang around.

Amber comments on Ziggy still not living with Dean but Dean says he doesn’t want to talk about Ziggy but them. Amber jokes about it in a somewhat flirtatious manner but Dean says he needs to know how things are going to work long term. The three of them head up to Salt where conversation is mainly dominated by Jai wanting pineapple pizza and lemonade. Willow arrives and offers to look after Jai for them. Dean and Amber go out onto the balcony. Amber admits John won’t need her soon but says she’ll find something. Dean wants more concrete plans. Amber says she’ll get the drinks first.

Taylor turns up at Colby’s flat with a large case. She tells him about Angelo cancelling dinner and offers him a massage to say thank you. Colby agrees that he should probably try it out if he’s going to recommend her. Later, Taylor ignores a call from Angelo as she finishes the massage. Colby says there wasn’t anything about it that he didn’t like. They hold hands and kiss.
