Extended Summary
Bella arrives home to the sight of Colby and Taylor popping up from the couch. She says she’ll be in her room and reminds Colby he has one too. Colby is amused but Taylor is horrified, repeatedly stating that she’s married. She gets a text from Angelo and hurries out. Down in the Diner, Irene gives Angelo his takeaway and he notes he needs to get back to the station. Alf and Roo ask about the case but he says he can’t give any details. A somewhat flustered Taylor enters (from the opposite direction to the Diner flat). Although Angelo had planned to just have a coffee with her, he agrees to eating together and him going back to the station afterwards.
Back at Salt, Dean suggests he have Jai for weekends or picks him up from school. Amber thinks he’s going too fast and says he needs to be committed, but is impressed at how he’s stepping up. She asks how she fits in and Dean replies that he’s got a girlfriend. Amber decides to take Jai and go. Back at the flat, Bella is teasing Colby about his visitor while he tells her to mind her own business. Dean and Willow arrive and Bella tells them Colby had a friend come over to give him a massage. Neither is impressed, a feeling shared by Bella when Dean explains she’s Angelo’s wife. Colby continues to insist he’s doing what he needs to get information. He and Dean nearly come to blows and Willow takes Dean out onto the balcony, sensing he is also annoyed about Amber. Dean discusses the fact she seems to want a ready-made family and is frustrated at not being in control.
Next morning, Colby is showering near the beach. John comes over and tells him about getting his licence back. Colby jokes that he’ll tell his sergeant to get more patrol cars out. Angelo and Taylor approach. Angelo steps aside to take a call and Taylor joins Colby, saying she’s never done anything like that before. Colby asks about the work Angelo was doing last night and Taylor says it was just a forensic check on a car. When Angelo is back in earshot, they pretend to be talking about a restaurant. Colby tells Willow what he’s found. Soon after, at the flat, Colby tells Dean that it must be the car they moved Ross’ body in. Both Dean and Bella try to convince Colby to stay away but Colby insists he needs to get his hands on the report.
Dean finds Willow near the beach and tells her they’ve got a problem. Willow reminds Dean that every time he tries to back up Colby it ends badly. She tells him to concentrate on Jai and leave Colby to her. Amber appears with Jai, saying he was complaining of a sore knee and sore tummy; she doesn’t seem convinced but has given him the day off school to see Dean anyway. As father and son play, Willow tells Amber that Jai means the world to Dean. Outside the Diner, Alf sees off a pair who have hired a boat. Roo approaches; Alf thinks she’s looking for Owen but she says she wanted to check in with Ryder and see how he’s coping with Owen being around. Alf thinks Ryder would talk to them if he wasn’t coping.
Dean shows Jai how to wax a board at the surf club. Amber still seems reluctant to make a commitment but agrees to Dean spending the day with Jai. Dean takes him to search for crabs in rock pools. John and Willow enter and John thanks Amber for helping him get his licence back before commenting to Willow on Dean stepping up with Jai. Willow runs into Taylor, who has just put her flyers in the gym. Taylor is confident Angelo will catch the murderer eventually. At the police station, Colby pretends to be looking at papers until he’s alone, then calls forensics pretending to be Angelo and asks them to read him the results. Angelo and Taylor come in as he’s finishing the call, with the couple discussing going out to a restaurant tonight. Colby tells Angelo the call was about a traffic incident.
Soon after, Colby is at the flat. After failing to get hold of Dean, he proudly tells Willow and Bella that forensics found nothing: No blood stains, hairs or skin from Ross’ body. Bella sarcastically says she’ll call him if she needs to cover up a murder and walks out. Willow reminds him that Ross was still Bella’s father. Meanwhile, Dean and Jai are looking at shells on the beach. Amber comes over and tells Dean that, while she’s not sure about everyone in his life or convinced he and Ziggy are solid, she’s happy for him to be in Jai’s life. She notes she didn’t realise how much he needed a father figure.
Roo is collecting Alf’s lunch from the Diner. Irene wonders how much like Evan Owen is, expressing surprise that he hasn’t been in there. Roo and Marilyn tell her about Ryder spending time with him and Irene notes he’s Owen’s only link to Evan apart from Roo. Later, Roo and Marilyn are walking through the caravan park. Roo is preoccupied and ends up telling Marilyn to take Alf his lunch; she’s going to wait at Owen’s van to talk to him.
Colby finds Bella on the wharf and apologises. Bella isn’t keen on the risks he’s taking and isn’t impressed when he tells her about impersonating Angelo on the phone to get the information. Colby insists that he’s in control. Bella goes to the surf club to talk to Willow, saying getting the report has left Colby convinced the risks he’s taking are worth it. She notes she thought she’d slip up and land Colby and Dean in jail, but Colby’s doing it all by himself.
