Extended Summary

Jasmine finds Ziggy at Salt and sees she’s in a depressed mood, asking if she’s had a fight with Dean. Ziggy says it’s not that, explaining about sending Ben to speak to Maggie. Jasmine convinces Ziggy to have dinner with her, despite Ziggy saying she’d not be good company. At the hospital, John’s room is being cleaned as Marilyn talks to Tori, saying it’s her fault for fussing over John when she knows he doesn’t like it. Tori says it’s not down to her and agrees that John’s improving, he just needs to be patient. Tori is heading home and has the day off tomorrow to spend with Grace. Marilyn decides to go and say goodbye to John and notes he isn’t a patient man. Tori says he’ll learn but doesn’t have an answer when Marilyn asks how.

Justin and Leah are looking after Grace when Tori arrives home. Tori is looking forward to spending time with her and checks Leah’s okay about going back to the Diner. Justin asks about John and Tori says he’s improving but there might be problems psychologically. Justin points out someone who’s used to being outside isn’t going to thrive stuck in a hospital room. At Salt, Jasmine gushes about Grace to a barely listening Ziggy. Justin and Leah arrive and Leah insists on approaching the pair. As she and Jasmine discuss the break-in, Justin takes Ziggy to the bar. Ziggy thanks him for the time off and asks for tomorrow off as well, explaining about Maggie’s plan.

Ben arrives at the farm house, where Maggie is looking for her passport. He asks her about walking out on her job and leaving Coco and Ziggy, but can’t offer a reason for her to stay when she asks for one. Maggie denies that she’s doing it to get back at him, saying she’s taking back control and he can move back in tomorrow. Ben asks what time her flight is and she says she’s hoping to get a stand-by. Next morning, Justin is with Grace in the Diner kitchen, watching Leah, to her irritation. Leah tries to convince him to go to work and also tries to get Marilyn to go. Marilyn is unsure, since Tori was looking forward to spending time with Grace, but Justin points out it was her idea. Jasmine arrives to pick up Grace and Leah gets Justin and Marilyn to leave.

Tori comes into John’s room with a wheelchair. John is unimpressed, saying every time he gets taken away in it he gets poked and prodded. He looks intrigued however when she says she’s busting him out. Soon after, she is getting him out of her car in a park area. Marilyn is nearby with a meal set up on a picnic table. Tori says she wanted to show him what he was working towards. John nearly falls trying to get out of the chair and asks Tori and Marilyn to help him onto the bench.

At the farm house, Ziggy is disappointed that Maggie is still planning to go. Maggie says Ziggy and Dean can move in if Ben doesn’t want to. She says she’s been unhappy for a long time and what really hurts is that Ben gave up on them. She thinks he only wants her to stay on his terms. Later, Alf finds Ben by the beach and tells him Maggie and Ziggy popped by the house on a farewell tour. Ben says Ziggy is texting him updates. He says he tried to get Maggie to stay. Alf doesn’t think this is the life Maggie wants but Ben isn’t sure the marriage can be saved.

John helps Marilyn with the crossword and gets her to pass him his now cool coffee. He tries to lift it with his bad hand; Tori looks worried and Marilyn seems set to grab it if it falls, but John ends up steadying it with his other hand, saying he’s not ready for it yet. He apologises to them both for his outburst and Tori says it’s natural to be frustrated. She calls Jasmine, who is at the Morgan house making Grace up a bottle and says that’s why she didn’t reply to Tori’s text. Tori is hoping to be back by lunchtime. Justin arrives, saying he’s checking in. After suggesting he’s actually checking up, Jasmine says she understands she has to earn back his trust and invites him to give Grace the bottle.

Later, Jasmine is alone with Grace. She checks the forum and sees photos that mothers have posted of their babies. She takes a photo of herself and Grace and posts it with a comment about spending her day off with her baby. Meanwhile, John and Marilyn finish the crossword. Tori suggests heading back. John asks for longer but backs off when Marilyn points out Tori wants to get back to Grace. Tori agrees to five more minutes.

At the Diner, Maggie is saying goodbye to Leah and Justin. Leah is surprised but pleased for her. Justin joins Ziggy at a nearby table and suggests Maggie is happy. Ziggy thinks this is the consolation prize. Justin tells her to keep trying with Ben. Near the surf club, Ben gets an irate phone call from Ziggy. Alf suggests he’s scared of things not working out. Ben says when he and Maggie got married he had no doubts, but he’s lost that conviction. Alf says when he took his wedding vows he meant them, but you can’t always keep them. He says having loved and lost he knows it’s worth it. Ben rushes off and dashes in front of Maggie’s car as she’s driving out of town, causing her to brake sharply. He refuses to move, saying he’s not going to let her go.

At the hospital, John is successfully eating a meal one-handed. Tori comes in and tells him and Marilyn that the specialists agree he can be discharged, since he’s more likely to progress living outside and doing rehab as an outpatient. Marilyn says the house is already wheelchair-friendly from Jett. Tori says John can go once he’s had his final assessment. Meanwhile, Ben tells Maggie he’s worked out the reason she should stay: They still love each other and he thinks they can make it work. Maggie seems unconvinced, but when he says he’ll let her go if she can look him in the eye and say she doesn’t love him, she doesn’t seem to be able to.
