Extended Summary
Colby, Dean and Bella are eating together at the Diner flat. Dean comments on him moving in; Colby says that’s not been decided but Bella says he’s there all the time anyway so he might as well pay rent. Colby agrees and Dean goes to pack his things. Colby checks Bella really is okay with Dean moving in, then asks about counselling. Bella says it’s going about as well as before and asks about the distance teaching. Colby says he got her mental health report from the hospital to add to the application. Meanwhile, Dean arrives back at the caravan park and finds Ziggy by the campfire. She tells him that Justin’s signed her off on two competencies and Dean tells her about moving into the flat. Ziggy notes they’re both going up in the world and they head off to “say farewell” to his caravan.
Irene, Willow, Alex and Jasmine are having dinner together at the beach house. Irene toasts Willow and Alex moving to Queensland and the fact the rest of them can go visit, although they wonder how Colby, Dean and Bella will cope without Willow. Irene offers them dessert but Willow and Alex both decide on an early night. Irene tries to tempt Jasmine with salted caramel macadamia ice cream but Jasmine reflects on the fact Willow and Alex are heading off into a future and she can’t see herself ever moving on. Later, the two of them talk on the back veranda, unaware Alex is in the kitchen and can hear them. Jasmine says she doesn’t begrudge Willow being happy but it feels like she’s losing everyone. Irene says that Jasmine’s still got her and suggests that she’ll also still be able to talk to Willow.
Colby finds Bella on the balcony and notes she’s not doing anything, wondering how her day went. He asks about the counselling but Bella refuses to discuss it and goes to bed. Next morning, Colby asks her again over breakfast and Bella says Patricia asked her about Ross and how she feels about him being “missing”. Colby suggests getting a different counsellor. Bella wonders if they’d just ask the same question but is keen to fire Patricia, although Colby says not until they have a replacement lined up. Roo arrives and asks about getting a tutor: Bella says they have a short list and are waiting to hear if she gets distance learning. Roo asks if she’s ready for her first day of Year 12.
Ziggy is getting dressed and comments on being fully qualified soon. She leaves the van to get her shoes and Dean follows, asking her to move in with him. Ziggy looks a bit like a rabbit caught in the headlights. Meanwhile, Bella is finishing off the book for the lesson. Roo asks what she thought of the character Josie’s relationship with her father and how she relied on him. Bella thinks it’s lame to need a father to rescue you. Roo is surprised but says it’s okay for Bella to think that if she can back it up. Bella gives a pat answer and Roo thinks she’s telling her what she wants to hear, suggesting she’s had to do it in the past to survive but it’s okay to have an opinion. Bella says Roo sounds like her counsellor. Roo suspects she tells her what she wants to hear as well.
At the garage, Justin asks Ziggy for help with the jobs they’ve got booked in. Ziggy is distracted and Justin checks she’s okay with more responsibility, saying once she’s qualified he’ll depend on her while he focuses on Leah and Tori. Ziggy reflects on being committed, saying Dean asked her to move in but she freaked out. She says she’s committed to the relationship but not to living together and asks Justin’s advice. After pointing out the strangeness of asking her ex-brother-in-law if she should move in with her boyfriend, Justin says that she rushed things with Brody: If she wants to move in with Dean, that’s fine, but she should do what she wants to. Down on the beach, Dean has finished a surf lesson, Willow has finished a boot camp and Colby has finished a surf. Dean mentions inviting Ziggy to move in and her not being keen; Colby is flabbergasted but Dean thinks it’s no big deal since it’s not happening and goes to get his things. After wondering how he agreed to Dean moving in, Colby discusses finding a new counsellor for Bella.
At the Diner, Colby finishes a phone call, sounding disappointed at the outcome. Dean comes over and says he’s moved his things into the flat, adding that there’s nothing in the fridge and no beer. Colby stops by Roo and Bella’s table; Bella says she’s decided to stick with Patricia since Roo’s comments on breaking patterns of behaviour. Colby gives her some money to get food but Bella realises he wants to talk about something and insists on staying. Colby explains that Bella isn’t eligible for distance teaching. Later, in the flat, Dean and Colby reminisce about their own fruitless school days. Dean gives Colby a beer: He re-stocked but didn’t get any groceries. Colby points out Dean hasn’t moved his bags, has his boardies in the sink and pie all over the couch, so it’s no wonder Ziggy didn’t want to move in.
Irene, Willow, Alex and Jasmine are having lunch together; Jasmine claims not to be hungry but Willow jokes about her body wanting food. Irene goes to wash her hands and Jasmine goes to answer the door. Willow tells Alex that Dean didn’t mention her moving. Jasmine reappears with a delivery: Robbo’s will. Reading it over, she notes that he’s left her the gym. Willow comments that that makes Jasmine her boss, quickly adding during her notice period. Jasmine is worried about running a business and Willow offers to help find a new manager. Alex suggests Willow come to the gym with them.
Dean arrives at the garage; Justin is about to go home for lunch and tells Ziggy she can take a break. Ziggy confirms she isn’t moving in: She still sees a future for them but doesn’t want to rush it like she did with Brody. Dean is fine with it and says he’ll ask her to move in again in ten years, or maybe five. Meanwhile, Willow has to get on with work and leaves Jasmine and Alex alone in the gym office. Jasmine examines Robbo’s family photos and finds a post-it “to do” list that he wrote. She doesn’t think she can sell the gym, saying Robbo belonged there and she told him to buy it.
Ziggy runs into Willow on the beach and congratulates her on her move, explaining about her and Dean agreeing not to move in. Willow says she’s probably the first woman Dean asked to live with him. She seems uncertain as Ziggy walks away. Back at the gym, Alex suggests grief comes in waves. Jasmine says it’s more like a tsunami and she’s surrounded by reminders of Robbo: She had to move out of the apartment because she’ll never have the life she had with Robbo and Grace. She notes if Willow was sticking around she’d get her to run the gym. Alex admits it’s not good timing and Jasmine agrees it couldn’t be worse.
