Extended Summary

Outside the hospital, a reporer states that five hostages have escaped and are giving statements but a single gunshot has been heard. Ari is being treated by a paramedic. Willow and Ziggy notice a group of armed police arriving. John tries to talk to McCarthy but he can’t stop to talk. Inside, despite Marilyn’s protests, Phil and Reg remove Mason’s shrouded body. Mackenzie and Alex are tending to Bella. Alex says she doesn’t think Bella’s taken any opiodes and to just keep her awake.

Dean complains to Colby that they’re on the floor above Emergency. Colby says that the gunmen will be watching the entrances so they have to find another way down. He notices a lift and says that they won’t be watching that because they’ve been shut down. He and Dean prise the door open, climb down on top of the lift and begin lifting a hatch.

Downstairs, Jay tells Phil and Reg to give him his gun back and announces that he’s in charge now: Killing someone was never part of the plan and they’ll end it as soon as they hear about Robbo. Out on the road, Robbo says he can tell Scott doesn’t want to do this and Lance was a good friend. He guesses Scott’s girlfriend has been threatened. Scott tells him to shut up and drive and he’ll let him know when they get there.

Colby and Dean climb down into the lift. Colby forces the door open a crack but doesn’t want to go rushing out when they don’t know what’s there. Alex tells Jasmine and Mackenzie to look after Bella and shakily approaches the hostage takers, telling them Bella has taken an overdose and needs charcoal, which she can get from a nearby trolley. Phil isn’t keen and Marilyn asks if they want a child to die. Jay agrees, telling Reg to watch her. Alex goes to the trolley and Colby whispers to her. Alex deliberately drops the pills near the lift. While she’s picking them up, she whispers to Colby and Dean that Mason didn’t make it, Jay is working with the gunmen and Bella isn’t looking good. She goes back to the others.

Outside, Ari has given his information to the armed police negotiator. John approaches him and tells him his wife’s in there. Ari realises he means Marilyn and says she was fine when he left and worried about everyone else. A woman, Gemma, pushes past the police and hugs Ari. They leave together. Ziggy wants to ask McCarthy where Colby and Dean are. Willow tells her not to and Ziggy realises with horror that they’re inside. Willow plays dumb when McCarthy asks if they’ve seen Colby. Inside, Alex is feeding Bella the charcoal. She quietly tells Mackenzie, Marilyn and Jasmine that Colby and Dean are in the lift and want them to create a distraction so they can get out.

Robbo and Scott drive to a remote spot in the bush and get out. Scott herds Robbo along at gunpoint, admitting he’s meant to ring when Robbo’s taken care of. Robbo says it would have been easier for Scott to have taken him by surprise like he did Lance. He offers to protect Scott’s girlfriend and kid. Scott retorts that Robbo couldn’t even protect his own family.

Dean’s phone starts ringing. He quickly turns it off but Phil has heard and realises there’s someone in the lift. He calls Reg over and gets him to help him get it open. Mackenzie and Jasmine start making a fuss but it’s not enough to stop the gunmen getting the door open…to find it empty. Colby and Dean have climbed up on top of the lift and replaced the hatch. They climb back up to the next floor. Colby wants to wait and go back down but Dean thinks the gunmen will be waiting for them and they should find another way down. Colby says he’ll call McCarthy. Dean walks off without him.

Scott has marched Robbo to a cliff edge where he’s holding him at gunpoint. Robbo protests that Jasmine’s testimony isn’t anything to worry about, since she never even saw Victor. Scott agrees and Robbo realises she’s security to control him. Scott claims she’ll be let go when Robbo’s gone. Robbo doesn’t believe it, saying he’s still under Victor’s hold five years later and Scott will always have Anna and Toby held over him.

Dean has found a stairwell and sees one of the hostage takers patrolling further down. He checks his phone and listens to a voice message from Ziggy calling him stupid and saying she loves him and isn’t going anywhere. He places his phone on the stairs and plays the message. The hostage taker comes out and Dean knocks him out and take his gun.

Not far away, Phil and Reg complain to Jay that it’s taking too long and tell him to call Scott. Alex realises Bella is going into shock and needs blankets. Mackenzie says she’ll get them, brushing aside Reg’s protests. Dean is hiding in the laundry room and tells her to get everyone on the floor when he gives the signal. Mackenzie goes back to the others.

Scott and Robbo rush back to the car together. Robbo wants to call Jay but Scott tells him Jay’s one of them. Robbo is frustrated and tells him to drive. As they drive along, Scott wonders what will happen to him, stuck in prison with Victor. Robbo tries to say he’ll protect him but Scott says he’s killed a Fed and tried to kill Robbo. His phone flashes up messages saying “TICK TOCK” and a photo of his family. Scott says Robbo was right that it never ends and speeds up.

Back at the hospital, the alarm goes off and Mackenzie tells everyone to get on the floor. Colby jumps down into the lift and rushes round the corner, gun raised, with a group of armed police officers doing the same from another direction. Jay, Phil, Reg and the other man quickly surrender. Dean also appears and checks on their friends. Colby asks about Bella and Jasmine asks him if Robbo’s there. At the same time, Scott is driving in an erratic manner and Robbo is grabbing at the wheel and trying to talk him down. Scott shrugs him off and Robbo flings his hands up in the air as Scott crashes the car, driving up the embankment beside the road and overturning it so it rolls over and over and ends up upside down, surrounded by dust.
