Extended Summary

Justin is working at the garage. Alf drops by to check on Ryder’s car. Justin says he’s only just made a start on it and is now a man down. They briefly discuss Martha moving in with Justin noting he’s learned to leave a lot of space for shoes. Leah arrives as Alf is leaving and they discuss the fact Tori’s having an assessment later. Leah invites Justin for a coffee with her and he notes she’s the only thing keeping him sane. Meanwhile, Robbo and Jasmine arrive back at the flat. Jasmine is unhappy with the way Robbo spoke to her; she points out she left a note but he says he didn’t see it. Jasmine thinks he still doesn’t trust her. Robbo is preoccupied with Grace so Jasmine leaves him to it.

At the Diner, Roo invites Irene along to the welcome meal for Martha. Leah and Justin come in and they beckon Leah over, asking if they’d be up for it. Leah says she’ll decide later, explaining about the doctors deciding if they can take Tori off sedation. At the farm house, Maggie looks at the rather empty fridge. Ben confirms he invited Dean but says he was too upset. He decides to take Maggie out for drinks and dinner, telling her to dress up.

Outside the Diner, Jasmine tells Irene about what happened with Robbo, saying she didn’t deserve it. Irene is sympathetic but points out Robbo’s still in survival mode and seeing threats everywhere. Jasmine notes Irene’s making it hard for her to stay mad with him. Inside, Roo asks Leah and Justin how living together’s going. They point out it’s only been one night and they haven’t even unpacked. Roo asks what they were doing all night; Leah asks if Roo really wants her to answer but Roo says she does. Justin gets a phone call and goes outside to take it. After asking Roo about Martha, Leah decides to go and check on him. She runs into Irene and Jasmine as she’s leaving and chats to them about Grace with both Irene and Leah volunteering to look after her if necessary.

Outside, Justin is having a phone conversation that doesn’t seem to be good news. Alf watches him briefly and chats to Leah about it as she comes out. Leah approaches Justin as the conversation finishes and asks if Tori’s okay. Justin says no and to give him a minute. Shortly after, he talks to her on the wharf, explaining that the scan showed Tori has another bleed on her brain. The doctors can’t operate and are just hoping it will be reabsorbed. If not, there’s a greater risk of disability if she wakes up. He doesn’t know how to tell the family. Leah offers to do it but Justin insists he will and will also tell Robbo.

In the Diner, Alf fills in Irene, Roo and Jasmine on what he saw, Leah comes in and tells them about the brain bleed, adding that Justin has gone to tell Robbo. Upstairs, Robbo asks Justin when they’ll know but Justin only knows what the doctor told him. He leaves as Jasmine arrives, explaining Leah filled them in. Robbo isn’t keen to give up on Tori but Jasmine points out that if things don’t improve, Grace living with them could be permanent, in which case he needs to trust her.

Ben and Maggie arrive at Salt. Ben tells Maggie to take a seat in the lounge area while he gets champagne, adding that he can’t drink on his medication so he’s designated driver. He says the evening’s just about having fun. Maggie quips that that’s how they ended up with Ziggy. At the Diner flat, Robbo admits he’s still jumpy. Jasmine repeats what Irene said about being in survival mode but reminds him they’re safe now. Robbo says that seeing Grace reminds him of Sophia and Lucas and what happened to them. Jasmine says he needs to move on so they can build a life together.

At the Diner, Alf and Roo discuss the meal with Roo offering to get some wine. Alf says to get something red and pricey. Roo checks he’s made space in his wardrobe, reminding him how big her suitcase is when they go on holiday. Robbo and Jasmine come in with Grace and Irene notes they’re a bit more relaxed. Leah comes over and says Justin isn’t answering her calls. Justin is sat at the garage; he ignores a call from Mason and a text from Leah. He goes to the fridge for a beer, then changes his mind and goes back to working on the car. He looks close to tears.

Ben and Maggie reminisce about their early dates, recalling a dinner party they snuck out of and spent the night in the back of a car, with Diana calling him a degenerate surf bum. Maggie goes to the bar for another drink, joining Roo who has come in for the wine. Roo calls it a hot date. Maggie says she’s making the most of it while she can, since ups are usually followed by downs. Maggie rejoins Ben, who is worrying about Dean, suspecting he thinks the same about Ziggy that he did about Maggie. Later, Ben notes that the last few months have been hellish and he’s sorry about that. Maggie says that he was ill and she never stopped loving him.

Irene is gushing over Grace at the Diner until she smells something, prompting Robbo and Jasmine to take her out. Leah is still worried about Justin so Irene convinces her to go look for him. At the caravan park house, Alf has set the table, including placing flowers on it. Roo comes home and is impressed. Alf sends her to get changed. He then gets a call from Martha and asks how long she’ll be but isn’t happy with the response. When Roo comes downstairs, Alf is clearing the table and tells her to let people know it’s off and Martha isn’t coming. He says she made some excuse but he didn’t listen because he thinks she simply got cold feet. Roo wants to phone Martha to check but Alf tells her not to bother.

Leah finds Justin at the garage. He says he turned his phone off and wants to finish the car for Alf. She asks how the others took the news and he admits he hasn’t told them. He says he doesn’t know how to tell them their sister is dying or how to give them hope when he’s losing it. He collapses in tears and Leah comforts him.
