Extended Summary

Ziggy joins Dean on the beach, where he has just finished giving a surf lesson. Although he seems happy to leave it, Ziggy tells the clients to leave a review and takes a photo of him. She notes she can’t do much work at the garage without Justin. Dean is about to start a shift at Salt and doesn’t think he’ll be much use afterwards but Ziggy insists he has to come round hers that night. At the farm house, Ben tells Maggie that the pills are making him feel worse and want to throw up all the time. Maggie reminds him that that’s how she felt while having cancer treatment but he wouldn’t let her give up. Ben protests that it’s not a matter of life and death and Maggie queries if that’s true. Ben goes to his room, saying he’s not seeing the psychologist either. Ziggy has arrived and Maggie feels they’re back to square one. Ziggy suggests they go to the gym.

Willow arrives at the Diner, somewhat exhausted: She is running the gym by virtue of being the only person there. She asks Irene and Marilyn if they have any photos of the baby and gets filled in on the situation: Tori in a coma after a stroke, Robbo and Jasmine looking after baby Grace, and Justin and Leah in the city. Nearby, Mason is walking with Ava and chatting to her, stressing that Tori is stable and saying she’ll be home soon. Willow comes along and says it’s terrible about Tori. Mason quickly downplays the seriousness in front of Ava; Willow cottons on and mouths sorry.

Dean takes down the flyers advertising his surf lessons that are on the walls at the gym, telling Willow that he’s busy without more of it. He also has to worry about public liability insurance, but the insurance companies want income projections and he has no idea how to do that when he’s not charging clients. He asks Willow to help but she says she’s up to her neck with her own stuff. Later, Maggie and Ziggy come in and Willow comments on the fact that it turns out Mason actually did things there. Ziggy gets Maggie to strap on some gloves and punch a bag. Ziggy says that it wasn’t going to be fixed in a day and Maggie comments it wasn’t meant to be back to square one either.

Mason and Ava are at the Diner with Mason offering pancakes. Irene and Marilyn chat to them and Marilyn ends up calling Ava to help with recycling, which Ava instantly realises is so they can talk about her behind her back. Irene thinks Mason needs to tell Ava how bad Tori is, since she obviously knows they’re hiding something. Later, Mason and Ava arrive home. He gets a text from Leah saying she’s arrived and claims Justin can’t call from the hospital. He sends Ava to feed Buddy.

Ziggy and Maggie head up to Salt but get only the briefest of greetings from Dean. They discuss Ben, concluding that he’s unlikely to let them change his mind about the pills but may listen to a medical professional, so their only hope is to get him to see the psychologist. Dean delivers a takeaway to Willow at the gym. She thanks him, since she hasn’t been able to stop. Robbo’s staying in the city with Grace so she’s decided to just hire someone to help out: However, she has no idea how to do it. She asks Dean to help but, echoing her comment, he says he’s up to his neck in his own stuff.

Ziggy and Maggie have finished their pizza and comment on how they both like to fix people. Ziggy follows Dean out onto the balcony to check on him. Dean says he’s tired and needs to do some paperwork but Ziggy still insists he comes to hers after work. Back at the Morgan house, Ava calls Justin, having realised Mason was lying about him being able to use his phone, and asks to know what’s really happening. Mason interrupts and tells her she can’t disturb Justin. However, he quickly accepts she’s worried anyway, so calls Justin back and tells him he needs to be honest with Ava. He hands the phone to her.

Willow turns up at the Diner as they’re closing to see Irene, explaining that she has no idea how to tell if a resume is a good one. Irene suggests she use her instincts but Willow doesn’t trust them. Talk turns to Tori, which Willow notes puts it in perspective. Marilyn shows them a photo of Grace that Leah just sent her. Back at the Morgan house, Mason is on the phone to Brody, admitting things are grim. Ava has overheard and says she can’t sleep because she’s scared. Mason says he is too so Ava suggests they’re scared together.

Dean turns up at the farm house but says he’s wiped out. Ziggy says she’s posted his photo online and got lots of bookings out of it. Dean is less than pleased but Ziggy drags him off to bed. During the night, Dean gets up and checks her laptop. Ben comes through and Dean tells him Ziggy has booked lessons without taking his shifts at Salt into account. He wonders if Ben could help but Ben isn’t feeling up to it. Ben asks if therapy really helped Karen. Dean says she took a while to go along with it but says it did in the end, as did the medication. Ben thinks it might be different for him. Dean says he was forced into therapy in prison and would probably be dead without it.

Next morning, Maggie and Ziggy are preparing breakfast. Dean has to leave for his lesson. Ben comes through: He has decided he will see the psychologist after all and offers to drive Maggie into work. Down on the beach, Dean is meeting his customers while Willow is setting up a gym class nearby and muses that once they’d only have been up at this time if they hadn’t been to bed. Ziggy appears: Justin has told her not to open the garage so she wants to help Dean with more publicity. However, Dean loses his temper with her, saying he’s barely slept and she keeps giving him more work, doing things without asking him. He tells her to butt out and walks over to his clients.
