Extended Summary

Willow follows Dean down to the beach, saying Ziggy didn’t mean what she said and was just lashing out. She says it wasn’t his fault. Dean agrees that it’s Brody and Simone’s. Not too far away, Ben and Maggie try to quiz Ziggy about what happened. Ziggy admits that she just wanted to feel better and for someone to want her. Ben tells her to stop blaming herself for what happened with Brody. Ziggy asks why he didn’t love her.

Brody and Simone walk towards the Diner. Brody wants Simone to take time off but Simone says she loves her work. Ben asks about Maggie and Simone says she’s being civil and professional, which is the most she can hope for. Simone heads to the Diner, passing Irene, who shoots a disapproving look at Brody and notes he doesn’t waste time. Brody asks why they should. Irene says it’s his life.

Up in the flat, Colby tells Bella he won’t be there tomorrow night because he has to work. Bella warns him not to do anything stupid and Colby assures her he won’t turn himself in. Bella has an assignment on the assassination of JFK. Colby claims he knows all about it, since he’s seen the movie. Bella says that doesn’t count. Simone turns up with snacks and suggests they get started.

Ben arrives at the house and Maggie tells him Ziggy’s in her room upset. They reflect on both Jarrod and Brody cheating on her, with Ben noting Dean’s the only one that’s treated her right. He feels bad for accusing him. Back at the Diner flat, Simone tells Bella that even if Oswald fired the fatal shot, there might have been other gunmen. Bella says these things don’t stay quiet forever and wonders what they’d need to prove it. Simone asks Colby’s opinion and he says it’s hard without a witness. Simone points out there were thousands and Colby says sometimes the evidence just isn’t there. Dean turns up and aggressively asks what Simone’s doing there. Colby ends up dragging him out.

Colby says Simone was helping Bella. Dean doesn’t think Simone should be anywhere near her since she broke up Ziggy’s marriage. Colby says that’s nothing to do with them. Willow turns up and asks Dean why he’s picking fights. Dean leaves. Willow fills Colby in on what happened, saying Dean did the right thing and people still had a go at him. Colby realises Willow is worried Dean turned Ziggy down because he likes her. Willow denies it. Colby goes back to the flat. Simone decides to go, saying they’ll pick it up tomorrow. Bella doesn’t know what to do now. Colby suggests they watch the movie.

Dean and Ben meet up at the surf club. Ben says Ziggy told them what happened and apologises for accusing Dean before admitting Ziggy’s not in a good way. Ziggy and Maggie are watching television together but admit it’s laughably bad and turn it off. Willow turns up and Maggie leaves her and Ziggy to talk in private. Willow is sympathetic but thinks Ziggy shouldn’t have had a go at Dean. She tells Ziggy not to push people away like she did, admitting to having hurt Dean more than anyone but saying he’s kind and loyal and one of the best people she knows.

Brody arrives at Simone’s caravan. Simone says she overreacted and shouldn’t have texted him. She explains what happened with Dean but tells Brody not to say anything. Brody suggests they go for a drink. At the surf club, Ben leaves Dean to man the board shop while he goes to sort out invoices. Brody and Simone arrive and Brody goes over to Dean, saying his marriage is nothing to do with him. Dean says he doesn’t have one. Brody tells Dean to stay away from Simone and Dean replies that Ziggy’s too good for him. Ziggy and Willow come in during the sniping and Ziggy tells Brody to back off, saying Dean’s a better man than him and Simone can have him. Simone convinces Brody they should leave. Ziggy smiles awkwardly at Dean.

Ziggy and Dean go for a walk outside. Ziggy apologises for snapping at him, saying he was just being a friend. Dean says it took all his restraint to turn Ziggy down and he doesn’t find her at all repulsive, but she’d have hated herself in the morning. He says she can do better than Brody and discusses being hung up on someone, saying he usually deals with it by going surfing. Meanwhile, Brody and Simone walk back to the cottage, where Simone greets Buddy and points out they hurt Ziggy and a lot of other people. Brody accepts that not everyone is going to be happy to see them together.

Bella makes an attempt to start her assignment but tells Colby that, even though she has all the information, she doesn’t know where to start when it comes to writing an essay. Colby suggests she contacts some of the friends in her year but Bella says she doesn’t really know any of them because she spends all her time out of class with Simone. Colby suggests they go for a walk on the beach.

At the farm house, Maggie tells Ben that Ziggy seems in a more positive frame of mind. Ziggy appears, dressed up, and explains she’s going out on the town in Yabbie Creek with some girls from TAFE. Ben tells her to let them know if she needs anything. Ziggy points out she’s twenty-one now but says she will call them.

Dean meets up with Willow near the beach, saying it’s good to see her back at work. Colby and Bella come along. Bella says Dean owes Simone an apology but Dean is dismissive. Colby notices the way Willow looks after Dean and says it would be easier if she just told him. Bella says Colby’s lucky to have friends like that: All she has is him and Simone, who Dean might have scared off and who’s paid to spend time with her.

As they head to the Diner, Colby suggests Raffy and Ryder are Bella’s friends. Bella says she sees them at school and beats them at pool but no-one ever comes to their place. Colby chats to Irene, noting he’s been so busy getting Bella settled at school that he’s forgotten about her social life. He notes Ross always kept Bella isolated and she should have had friends in childhood.

Brody and Simone have finished eating, with Simone trying to get details of Brody’s recipe. She notes it’s getting late but isn’t looking forward to going back to her van and potentially running into Dean. Brody invites her to stay.
