Jett is in denial after learning that he will never walk again. Dean saves the day as Ziggy wallows in self-pity on her birthday.

Extended Summary

John follows Tori out of the room and asks if there’s still a chance. Tori says there isn’t: She wasn’t even touching Jett’s foot and he was having phantom sensations, he’s definitely paralysed. John wonders how long the denial will last and what to do in the meantime; Tori says to just reassure him. Jasmine joins Marilyn and Jett in the room and introduces herself, although Jett doesn’t respond to her or Marilyn. John also goes in and asks Jett how he is, with both him and Marilyn trying to point out he’s had big news. Jett insists he’s going to beat it and will walk again.

Ziggy arrives home to be greeted by Ben with a birthday balloon, but reminds him she said she wasn’t going to celebrate: She had to work and Simone still has a job. Ben suggests they go out to dinner and has to stop himself suggesting Salt. Ziggy says she’d rather stay in her room, not wanting to have dinner with a happy couple (meaning Ben and Maggie). Ben convinces her to at least go for a surf. Not long after however, Ziggy is storming out of the sea in a bad mood, with Dean putting his foot in it by referring to her being dumped, meaning by a wave. Ziggy says she’s going to eat her body weight in gelato. Ben tells Dean he’ll need him to keep an eye on work while he looks after Ziggy, explaining it’s her birthday.

Justin encounters Leah on the headland and comments on her staring in the opposite direction to the water. Leah mentions Jett being back. Justin offers to talk with her about it but Leah suggests he goes and check on Tori instead. Meanwhile, John, Marilyn and Jasmine are all in Jett’s room with him. Marilyn tries to get Jett to talk about things but Jett tells them to leave him alone. Tori intercedes, suggesting everyone’s tired and emotional and getting John and Marilyn to step outside. Jasmine tries to plead their case to Jett but Jett says he doesn’t need negativity. Tori tells John and Marilyn that Jett’s in shock and suggests they take a break; Jasmine says she’ll look after him. As they leave, they pass Justin, who wishes them luck and says his family will look after Raffy. Tori fills Justin in on Jett’s condition. After establishing she’s working late, Justin gives her some takeaway. He asks Jasmine to keep an eye on her.

Ben and Ziggy leave the surf club; Ziggy is feeling the effects of overindulgence and Ben indicates he was too scared to step in. Dean pulls up in his car and says he’s taking Ziggy for a birthday surprise. Ziggy is reluctant but Dean says he’s not asking her, he’s telling her. He takes her to the caravan park; he has a scoop of gelato and a large pack of beer outside his van. Ziggy looks over at Simone’s van and says that’s where she caught her and Brody. Dean offers to go somewhere else but Ziggy says stuff them. They settle down for a beer; Ziggy says she wishes she’d worked out what Brody was doing and Dean says you can’t stop people lying to you. He adds a more helpful message: He never understood how a goose like Brody managed to get with her. Ziggy comments on Dean winning Ben over.

John and Marilyn arrive at the Diner where they receive gestures of support from Irene and Leah. They both offer any help but Marilyn says they don’t know what they need. John tries to suggest they’ll make the best of it but Marilyn says the life Jett imagined has gone. She leaves, upset, and John stops Leah going after her. He later joins her on the wharf but tells her not to apologise. Neither of them are quite sure how to be there for Jett. John says soon Jett’s world will come crashing down, However, they note that they still have him.

Tori and Jasmine check on Jett, who is withdrawn again and ignores their reassurances. They head back out into the admin area and discuss how one moment can change everything. Tori asks if Jasmine’s heard from Robbo but she’s given up expecting to. She convinces Tori to go home, saying it’s not just her she has to worry about. Tori wonders why Jasmine’s being so generous and Jasmine says it’s a baby. Tori returns home to a shirtless Justin, who is surprised she’s home early. She admits she didn’t eat the food he brought and says she’ll have it for breakfast. She heads to her room, while Justin rejoins a flustered Leah, who is getting dressed, in his room. Amused, Justin asks if she still wants the glass of water he was getting her and jokingly suggests she stick around.

Ziggy and Dean are sitting in front of a fire. Ziggy is rather drunk, babbling about how great it is Dean made the fire. Dean suggests she has some water before another beer and goes to the van to get some. Ziggy follows him in and says she wants to thank him, before kissing him. Dean says she’s welcome and kisses her back. At the hospital, Jasmine checks on Jett, who is on his tablet trying to get information on his unit: There’s nothing on the news and he can’t access his e-mails. He says he should be with them, talking to the families of his men who were killed, and is frustrated that he only lasted a month. Jasmine says John and Marilyn are proud of him but Jett fears them making sacrifices to look after him, saying they’ve already saved him twice, first after his mother and then when Gina died. He breaks down in tears and Jasmine takes his hand.

Ziggy and Dean continue kissing, but when Ziggy takes her top off, Dean pulls back, saying they can’t. Ziggy grabs her top and bag and runs off, upset.
