Extended Summary

Mason is on the phone, chatting to a friend who got a placement at Reefton Lakes. Brody comes in and asks if he’s seen Ziggy. Mason tells him about the call and that the friend didn’t do as well as him, and is saved from answering Brody by Ziggy coming in. Mason goes to check the mailbox. Brody apologises to Ziggy for throwing her out but still thinks she’s acting crazy and Simone isn’t a problem. Ziggy walks out. At the Diner, Ben asks Maggie if he should have a word with Brody. Maggie reminds him how much he hated Diana interfering in their marriage and says they shouldn’t get involved unless Ziggy asks them to. Marilyn comes over and apologises for the trouble John’s given Ben but Ben says it’s for them to sort out. Maggie gives him a pointed look.

Nearby on the wharf, Justin tells Alf that the boat he’s working on needs new spark plugs. He says he needs to go to the car shop anyway and Alf suggests Justin drop his name for a discount. Mason arrives in time to overhear and asks Alf if he can drop his name to buy a car, since he’ll need one to drive back and forth to work. He still hasn’t got his placement however and is frustrated to keep getting texts from friends who have. Later, Justin tries to get Mason to downplay his car ambitions. Alf says his first car was a 1964 Holden; Mason dreams of a convertible while Justin suggests a more practical 4×4 or ute. He offers to take him to look and refuses to swing by the house to check the mail first.

Brody arrives back at Salt and tells Simone what happened earlier wasn’t her fault and she doesn’t have to leave. Simone is happy to carry on working there and offers to make Brody something for lunch. Down on the beach, Dean is on the phone, presumably to Colby, trying to sell surfing lessons for Bella. Ziggy comes down for a surf and rants to him about the situation with Brody and Simone. Dean doesn’t help her mood by describing Simone as hot. He asks if she knows what’s she going to do and Ziggy says all her ideas would land her in jail.

Simone serves Brody a dish she’s been working on herself. Brody is impressed despite giving her a few pointers to improve it. Dean comes in and asks to order. He asks for what Brody has and, when Simone says it’s not available to the public, offers to be her guinea pig. Simone suggests the fish of the day or something simple. Dean invites her to join him but she says she doesn’t do simple. After she’s gone, Brody tells Dean not to hit on his staff and claims he’s just doing his duty of care as her boss. At the Diner, Justin is trying to convince Mason that being red is not a good enough reason to buy a car. John comes in and tells Marilyn they’ve got a letter about Jett’s graduation. Mason realises this means the post has come and rushes out, knocking Alf aside along the way. Marilyn worries a bit about Jett being sent somewhere dangerous but Alf and John say he’d get more training first. John says the ceremony’s in Canberra the day after tomorrow and suggests they go and take Raffy. Alf briefly comments to Marilyn that she should be proud of Jett.

Ziggy joins Ben at the surf club and admits the surfing didn’t help and she had another fight with Brody but declines his offer of help. Dean comes down and John makes a pointed remark about him choosing his own work hours. Dean takes Ziggy aside and says he thinks she’s right about Simone but it’s not exactly a case of her hitting on Brody. After Ziggy has gone, Dean tells Ben that Brody isn’t as innocent as Brody thinks he is. Brody is directing staff upstairs when Ben comes up and asks to talk to him in private. They go behind the counter, although Simone is still nearby in earshot. Ben says Ziggy’s worried. Brody insists nothing is going on and tells Ben what Dean actually did. Ben calms down somewhat, saying he’s just trying to look out for Ziggy.

Mason enters the house with the letter, ripping it open and reading it. As he does, he looks more and more upset. On the balcony at Salt, Justin tells Brody about Mason racing off when he heard about the post. He hasn’t heard from him since but expects he’ll call soon. Brody admits things are getting out of hand with Ziggy and Simone. Justin suggests Brody should let Simone go if it’s the best thing for his marriage.

Marilyn and Maggie chat about Jett and Marilyn notes Justin thinks Raffy going to the graduation is a good idea. Ziggy comes in in a state and asks Maggie if Ben’s ever cheated on her or if she thought he was. She recalls finding Jarod with another girl. Maggie reminds her that Brody loves her and has supported her through the worst year of her life, saying he wouldn’t throw that away for a fling. Later, Marilyn goes to pick John up from the surf club and tells him they need to get Jett a graduation present. John gives Ben the keys to lock up but Ben immediately gives them to Dean since he’s leaving himself. Justin passes through looking for Mason. John refuses to leave Dean on his own so Marilyn goes without him.

Justin finds Mason on the wharf, saying he’s got a six pack to celebrate. Mason explains he didn’t get an internship at any of the places he applied to: There are most applicants than posts. He feels his training has been a waste. Justin says there must be something they can do but Mason isn’t in the mood to think about it. Up in Salt, Ziggy goes in and kisses Brody, saying she loves him and trusts him and is sorry for her behaviour. As they hug, Simone looks disappointed.

John and Dean are having a stand-off, with John refusing to leave and Dean saying he might do a stocktake and start on a board. Ziggy comes down with beers and thanks Dean for his help even though she didn’t ask for it. Dean says it wasn’t entirely for her since Simone might have taken him up on his offer. Upstairs, Brody brings Simone a drink on the balcony and says he thinks she has a huge future but it can’t be there. Simone is upset and doesn’t want to go. Brody says he has to put Ziggy first. Simone kisses him; after a noticeable wait, Brody pulls away and says he’s married and he can’t. Both of them look awkward.
