Extended Summary

Ben and Dean are coming up from the beach. Dean says he has another idea to make money and assures Ben it’s legit. Ben says they’ll focus on getting the shop up and running first and tells Dean that means he has to be there: They can’t give John more ammunition. Meanwhile, Ryder tracks Raffy down on the wharf. Raffy asks Ryder why he kissed her and if he kisses all his friends. Ryder tries to stammer an apology but Raffy runs off. Justin, working on a boat nearby, sees her and calls after her without response.

Ben and Dean arrive back at the surf club where John tells them a delivery’s come and they need to keep the common area clear. Dean notes he misses Alf. When he sees Chelsea going into the gym, he immediately takes his break, attracting a wry comment from John. Dean tries to talk to Chelsea about Colby but she says the wedding’s off and that McCarthy hasn’t been able to get hold of him. Dean says he’s with Bella and asks if they’ve found Ross. Chelsea says they haven’t but admits they’ve found a body that could be Michelle. Dean is annoyed Chelsea isn’t supporting Colby while Chelsea thinks Dean should have talked him out of going after Ross and Bella.

Roo’s class file in, with Ryder one of the first there. Raffy comes in but sits behind him. Roo tells them to get their books out but then goes to talk to Maggie in the office. She asks if Maggie saw Raffy’s assignment. Maggie says she did but Roo has a responsibility to all the Year 12 students. Roo says she’ll be working in a remote area and she’ll learn skills that will help her at Summer Bay. She manages to get Maggie to agree to at least think about it.

Dean sees Chelsea come out of the gym. She asks Alf how much notice she has to give at the caravan park, explaining she’s getting a transfer back to the city and Colby isn’t going with her. Alf says there’s no need for notice, just let him know when she leaves. Dean follows her outside and tells her she can’t leave. He insists Colby would have gone after Bella whatever he’d said. He asks her to meet him for a drink and that if he can’t talk her round he’ll leave her alone.

Roo is on her phone on the steps outside the bait shop while Alf and Justin works nearby. She explains about not getting permission to go yet and tells Alf she needs to be on the plane tomorrow. She goes to call Maggie. Alf tells a story about “the captain”, the meanest fish around, who once came up to him. He then admits there’s no point to the story, he just wanted to distract Roo from pestering Maggie. Ben comes out of the shop with the last of his stuff and, against Alf’s advice, Roo goes to chat to him. Ben arrives at the surf club and tells Maggie about Roo’s talk. He says he’s got experience of looking after staff. Dean is texting behind him and Ben eventually tells him to stop. He tells Maggie she should support her staff unless there’s another reason she doesn’t want Roo to go.

At the Diner, John and Marilyn are congratulating Raffy on her assignment and want to take her out for a celebratory meal, suggesting a Japanese place in Yabbie Creek. Seeing Ryder, they invite him along too and he accepts. Justin comes in and Raffy quickly announces she’d already arranged to have a pizza with him. Justin goes along with it. At the surf club, Dean and Ben admire the finished counter. Ryder comes in and asks to talk to Dean, asking how he and Willow managed to go from friends to more. Dean realises he’s asking because of Raffy but has to cut the conversation short when Chelsea turns up.

Sitting on the balcony in Salt, Dean offers Chelsea a drink but she says it’s not a date. Dean starts to talk about where he and Colby came from. Chelsea says she’s bent the rules and ignored things because of that but Colby’s gone too far. Dean says he’s never seen Colby as happy as he is with Chelsea and thinks if she wasn’t bothered she wouldn’t be there. Later, Dean says now Colby has Bella back things will change. Chelsea asks what if Colby goes after Ross and Dean says Colby isn’t out for revenge. She asks what if Ross comes looking for Bella and Dean says the police should hurry up and catch him before he does. He asks her to give Colby a chance.

At the Morgan house, Justin and Raffy finish the pizza and Justin asks what’s bothering her. Raffy asks him not to be an angry big brother before admitting Ryder kissed her. Justin asks if she wanted him to and she says it doesn’t matter because he regretted it. Justin thinks Ryder likes her, saying being friends is a good place to start and he was worried about her in hospital. Raffy takes this to mean he kissed her to cheer her up. Justin advises her to ask him. Back at the Diner, Alf, Roo, John and Marilyn discuss Roo’s placement with John and Marilyn thinking Roo should go for it. Maggie comes in and Roo tells her she’s taking the placement. Maggie says she’s already signed off on it and admits she was worried about coping without Roo.

Next morning at the surf club, a crowd including Alf, John, Marilyn, Roo, Maggie and Dean gather for the opening of Ben’s Boards. Ben makes a short speech in which he thanks Maggie, then cuts the ribbon. Everyone offers congratulations. Dean presents Ben with his idea: A surf school. Ben agrees but says Dean will have to run it. Dean picks out an attractive young woman as his first customer but then gets a call from Chelsea telling him to meet her outside. Near the Diner, Alf, Roo, Marilyn and Ryder are saying their goodbyes and Raffy arrives to add hers. Alf and Roo drive off and Marilyn goes inside. Raffy asks Ryder if he kissed her because he felt sorry for her. Ryder says he likes her but isn’t sure how she feels. Raffy kisses him and says she feels the same way.

Dean meets Chelsea (who is in uniform) and says being called away from work by a cop isn’t a good look. Chelsea asks where Colby is, saying the autopsy confirmed the body is Michelle and they need to talk to Bella…and she has told the police she’s with Colby. Dean says Chelsea’s made her choice since Colby will never forgive her.
