Extended Summary

In the hospital, Justin, Brody and Mason have informed Raffy that she can go home tomorrow. Raffy is worried about having more seizures and suggests she should stay in but they promise her that someone will be with her all the time and either Tori or Mason will be on hand. They also say they’ve picked up her things from John and Marilyn’s and the Palmers are okay with the move. At the Diner, John and Marilyn are complaining to Leah about not being consulted. Irene drops by the table and is filled in. She wonders what Raffy thinks but say the Morgans have a lot on their plate and suggests John and Marilyn go round there to ask about seeing her.

Ziggy is on the phone to Maggie and tells Coco that she and Ben have made up and gone for a walk. Coco admits Maggie’s behaviour has been going on for a little while. Ziggy says she should have told her: They’re still a team even though she’s moved out. She makes Coco (who protests that she isn’t five) pinky promise to call her next time Maggie acts weird. Meanwhile, Ben and Maggie are walking on the pier. Maggie insists that it isn’t that Ben isn’t enough, it’s that she isn’t enough. Her cancer battle has changed her and, while she still wants to be a wife, a mother and a teacher, she wants to do something big. Ben says he’s with her in whatever she decides to do and decides they should start by finishing the champagne.

Roo joins Alf on the patio area and tells him Ryder isn’t coming down. Alf says Ryder isn’t a kid anymore and needs to start behaving like it. Ryder overhears and tells them he’s going out: He doesn’t tell them where, repeating Alf’s comment that he isn’t a kid anymore. At the hospital, Brody wonders to Justin if they’re doing the right thing bringing Raffy home. Ryder turns up looking to see her but they tell him it’s after visiting hours. They also mention Raffy’s coming home tomorrow but say to give her a couple of days to settle in. Justin goes to say goodbye to her and Brody offers Ryder a lift home. Ryder asks to be taken to Salt instead.

Ryder settles in a booth at Salt and complains to Brody that he hasn’t seen Raffy in over a week. He asks for a beer; Brody initially refuses but then Ryder shows him his ID and Brody sees it’s his 18th birthday. He congratulates him and suggests he invite Alf and Roo down for a celebration. Ryder instead texts Raffy, thanking her for the birthday wishes and asking how she is. Raffy is asleep and Mason is with her. He sees the text and turns her phone off.

Still at the Diner, John and Marilyn discuss going to the Morgans’. Justin comes in and tells them about Raffy being discharged, asking if he can come round and grab her laptop. John says they’ll drop it round in the morning, pointing out to Marilyn that it means they can talk to the Morgans and see Raffy. Next morning, Coco wakes up to find a hyperactive Ben and Maggie, who have apparently been up all night, making a list. They ask if she’d prefer a year in Nepal or Mars One, before adding a sustainable farm in Nepal to the list. Ziggy is at the Morgan house, where Brody, Justin and Mason are discussing food for Raffy, when Coco calls her and says things are definitely weird.

At the Diner, Alf sees John and Marilyn ticking off a checklist of things to take to Raffy. Roo and Ryder arrive and Alf comments that he didn’t hear Ryder come in last night. John and Marilyn say they’re off to see Raffy; Ryder protests that he was told she couldn’t have visitors. They can’t offer an explanation and an upset Ryder claims he has a shift at the juice bar and leaves. Meanwhile, Brody, Justin and Mason settle Raffy at home, setting her up on the couch and offering her food and a rest. John and Marilyn turn up and Raffy greets them happily. Justin tries to get them to leave as soon as they’ve handed things over but Marilyn says they want to talk. Mason takes Raffy to her room as John and Marilyn wonder what their role in Raffy’s future is.

Ziggy turns up at the farm house and Coco tells her that Ben and Maggie are planning to become astronauts. From the next room, they call out plans to become a yoga teacher in Bali. Coco notes they haven’t even had that much of the champagne. Ben and Maggie are semi-conscious on the couch so the sisters drag them off to bed. They emerge some time later; Ben doesn’t recall Ziggy turning up. The girls say they’ve looked at the list and understand: They’re on board with everything except astronauts and matching tattoos. Maggie announces she’s going to help cure cancer: She’s no idea how, but the idea is to think big. The others are happy for her.

John and Marilyn suggest to Justin, Brody and Mason that they could pick Raffy up from school some days, saying they just want to spend time with her. Raffy joins them and says she thought John and Marilyn were okay with it; Justin says it’s his fault for not explaining properly. Brody assures John and Marilyn that they’re a part of the family and they’re not going to get cut out. They prepare to have a drink together but then Ryder turns up; Raffy is pleased to see him but he complains that they told him Raffy wasn’t having visitors and are now having a party without him. Justin protests that he didn’t invite them and John realises Ryder is drunk. Later, Mason settles Ryder with a drink of water. Raffy tells him she didn’t even know he came to visit and isn’t mad at him. Ryder blames “them”, saying they even forgot his birthday. Alf and Roo turn up and ask who bought him the drink. Ryder says he bought it himself and Roo assumes he has a fake ID, asking if there’s more. Ryder says there is but they’ll never guess it, walking out. Brody tells them about Ryder turning eighteen.

Ryder is sat by the ashes of a burnt out fire in the caravan park. Alf and Roo join him and says there’s no excuse and they stuffed up. Ryder says they only notice him when he does something wrong and walks away. Alf and Roo conclude they need to fix it. Ryder is up in his room listening on headphones and Roo joins him. She says she understands he’s hurt and she let him down, asking what she can do to make it up to him. Ryder asks her to leave him alone.

At the Morgans’ house, the adults discuss Ryder; Marilyn insists Alf and Roo love him, John suggests maybe he needs to hear it and Justin says storming off doesn’t help. Raffy, who has been standing apart, complains about them making assumptions, saying no-one asked her if she wanted to move back in or if she wanted to see her friends. She says she’s storming off as well because she needs to see Ryder. Mason follows, saying he’ll give her a lift. At the Stewart house, Roo tells Alf she thinks she made it worse. Mason and Raffy arrive and Roo says Raffy’s probably the only person Ryder would want to see. However, as she tries to go upstairs, she’s met by Ryder with his bags packed, saying it’s time to move on. He thanks her for being an awesome friend, then walks out past the others, saying he’s eighteen now and can look after himself. Roo and Raffy look distraught.
