Extended Summary

Near the Diner, Alf runs into Ryder and asks how it went with Coco; Ryder says it didn’t. Coco and Raffy approach, arguing; Raffy asks if Coco has ever done anything nice for Ryder but Coco refuses to talk to her and accuses Ryder of talking behind her back, carrying on walking. Raffy admits she told her Ryder was upset and Ryder says it was none of her business. Alf and Marilyn wonder what’s going on. Meanwhile, Dean and Ziggy are coming up from the beach; Ziggy assures Dean that Justin hasn’t got him doing a stock take as punishment but as part of his job. Brody comes along and asks about Justin. Coco then appears and asks Ziggy to drive her home. Ziggy doesn’t have a car so Brody lends her the Salt van.

Dean heads up to Salt where he announces that Colby, who’s also at the bar, is buying his drink. They awkwardly joke about Colby hanging out with a known criminal. Colby asks how the job’s going and Dean admits Justin isn’t the worse boss he’s ever had. Meanwhile, Ben asks Maggie’s advice on dinner but she is too busy looking at Chemistry details. Ben notes it’s good to see her happy again and Maggie says she feels useful. Ziggy and Coco turn up and Coco stomps straight through to her room without saying anything. All Ziggy can offer is that Coco had a fight with Raffy and isn’t happy with Ryder.

Colby remarks to Dean that it’s a miracle Alf let him stay at the caravan park. Ziggy comes in and briefly chats to them. Brody is suspicious of Dean but Ziggy says he deserves a second chance. Brody reminds her they both have the day off tomorrow. Ziggy isn’t keen on going to the farmers market (where Brody once took her truffle shopping) but Brody’s had another idea: They’ll go to a surfing spot up the coast. Later, Dean tells Colby he’d better wrap up because he has work in the morning. He mentions Justin only gave him the job because of Willow; Brody cuts in, saying he put Justin through a lot. Colby steers Dean out before it can get more heated.

At the Diner, Raffy tells Marilyn she doesn’t know what she did wrong. She explains about having a go at Coco for standing up Ryder and says Coco thinks they were talking behind her back. She says she was just standing up for a friend. Marilyn agrees that she meant well but says other people’s relationships can be difficult. Back at the caravan park house, Ryder is leaving an apologetic phone message for Coco. Alf offers him some food and stops him leaving yet another message. He wonders if Raffy had a reason to get involved and Ryder reluctantly tells him about Coco not showing up for their special afternoon. He says he can’t lose her but Alf tells him good relationships are based on honesty.

Coco emerges from her room and Ben and Maggie say they have left food for her. Coco says Raffy turned on her and accused her of taking Ryder for granted. Ben is taken aback when Coco says she didn’t turn up for her meeting with Ryder but Coco insists she’s not in the wrong for placing schoolwork ahead of a boy. Maggie says she can clear the air with them both in the morning. Next day, Brody and Ziggy are heading off on their day out; Ziggy tries to get Brody to learn to surf but he says he’s as good at that as she is at cooking. They run into Dean, who has got the keys from Justin and is on his way to the garage. Brody gets a phone call and tells Ziggy that the chef’s stuck in traffic so he needs to do the prep work himself: The coastal trip’s out but they can go for a picnic later.

Alf and Ryder approach the Diner where Coco has asked Ryder to meet her. Alf gives him a few words of encouragement and reminds him to be honest. He and Ben exchange a few words before leaving the teens to it. Coco and Ryder decide to go for a walk. At Salt, Marilyn is assuring Raffy that everything will be sorted soon. Ziggy comes in and Raffy asks her about Coco but Ziggy hasn’t seen her this morning. Brody ends a heated phone call and tells Ziggy the chef isn’t showing up at all so the picnic’s off. Ziggy suggests he close but Brody says he can’t afford to lose a day’s takings, especially if they’re saving for a deposit on a house. This is news to Ziggy, who says they’ve only just moved into the flat, and even Brody saying they wouldn’t do it straightaway doesn’t mollify her.

Ziggy heads to the garage where Dean is doing the stock take and jokes about him missing a bit. She tells him about Brody springing the deposit on her, thinking that getting married and moving in together is enough for now. Dean suggests she’s lucky to have someone that wants to do that with her. She admits she’s got nothing to do but annoy him so he puts her to work. Later, they have finished early. Ziggy gets some beers from the fridge, despite Dean’s reservations, and challenges him to a darts drinking game: If you hit bullseye, the other person has to take a swig. Dean’s first dart misses the board and she says you also have to drink if you do that. His second dart hits bullseye.

Ryder assures Coco that he didn’t put Raffy up to anything and claims he doesn’t know where she got it from. Coco says she needs to concentrate on schoolwork. She starts to accept she should have called but Ryder says it was his fault for making plans without asking and she did nothing wrong. They both agree to forget about it and go hang out. At the surf club, Raffy and Marilyn come downstairs and see Ryder and Coco together. Marilyn leaves Raffy to talk to them. Raffy apologises for interfering and hopes they can be friends again. Ryder’s expression suggests he’d be happy to but Coco lays into her, accusing her of causing trouble between them and being jealous. Raffy protests that she was just trying to help and asks Ryder to back her up but Ryder says nothing. Coco says neither of them want anything to do with her.

Ziggy, now rather drunk, misses the board and takes another swig. Dean suggests she slow down, pointing out she hasn’t eaten. Ziggy gets a phone call from Brody saying he’s free for the picnic. Ziggy drunkenly tells him she’s at the garage with Dean, which doesn’t impress Brody. Colby hears Brody’s side of the conversation and leaves for the garage with him. Ziggy collapses into a revolving chair and starts spinning around in it.

Outside the Diner, Marilyn is telling Irene that she’s sure Raffy, Ryder and Coco will all be friends again now. She’s proved wrong when Raffy turns up in tears, saying Coco yelled at her and Ryder just stood there and they both hate her. At the garage, Dean spins Ziggy round at her own request but then she looks ill and rushes to throw up into one of the stacks of tyres. Brody and Colby turn up and Brody is unimpressed, blaming Dean for Ziggy’s condition, despite his protests, and refusing his help in getting her back to the van. As Brody drives Ziggy away, Colby wryly comments on Dean’s success at keeping out of trouble.
