Mason’s attempt to separate the baby from his relationship with Dempsey is shadowed by memories of Beth. A frustrated Tori is struggling with the donor situation.
Extended Summary
Jasmine runs up from the beach where she is met by Robbo, who finished before her. He claims he was pushing himself but she thinks he didn’t want to be beaten by a girl. She suggests they go for a coffee but he says he has to do a weight session. John comes along and gets Robbo to help him put out the flags, complaining about his workload. Meanwhile, Mason is still trying to get his head around Dempsey’s declaration. He thinks she’s saying she won’t keep the baby if they’re not together. Dempsey says she isn’t but Mason thinks she’s planning their lives. Tori turns up and interrupts them. She offers to go to her room but Mason says they’ll go for a walk.
At the Diner, John complains to Irene and Marilyn about having to do his own job and look after the gym, as well as keep an eye on Willow. After he’s gone, Jasmine turns up and asks Irene for something unhealthy. Irene congratulates her on keeping the exercise going but still doesn’t seem entirely convinced by her and Robbo’s just friends status. At the gym, Robbo is hitting a punchbag and asks John for a towel. John says to ask a trainer but there aren’t any of those either. John eventually tries to get one himself but can’t find the laundry delivery, only used towels. He complains about the mess the gym is in.
Tori is staring at her laptop. Justin wonders if she’s thinking about “the donor thing”, a description she objects to: She still hasn’t moved up the waiting list. She asks about Willow and which room she’s going to be staying in. Justin says she’s moving out and they agree it’s sensible. They discuss Mason and Dempsey. Down on the beach, Mason asks Dempsey if she’s sure. Dempsey thinks they have a responsibility to do everything they can for the baby. Before they can discuss fully, Jasmine comes over and greets them cheerily, before realising she’s misread the mood. Dempsey leaves for work and Mason asks Jasmine not to spread what he’s about to tell her round the hospital.
At Salt, Mason has filled Jasmine and Brody in on the latest. Jasmine is still trying to process him getting Dempsey pregnant. Brody thinks things are moving too fast but Jasmine suggests they’d be dating if she wasn’t pregnant and lots of relationships have difficulty to begin with. Mason admits he’s having trouble separating Dempsey and the baby. Back at the house, Tori continues to stare at the screen. Justin says refreshing it in the hope of getting a message won’t help and Tori admits she rang the clinic and was told it’s their procedure. Brody and Mason come home and Mason tells Justin not to give him any more advice.
At the surf club, John complains to Alf that the gym owners now expect him to sell it for them. Alf isn’t surprised since they’ve shown no interest in it since buying it. Robbo overhears and gets clarification from John. Back at the Morgan house, Justin, Tori and Brody discuss Mason’s situation. Justin worries he’s been forced into a corner. Tori says there was an attraction there but Brody thinks it should be about love. After a bit of prompting from Tori, Justin admits he’d have liked to have been a family with Ava and Nina. Mason comes in and sarcastically asks if they’ve sorted it out for him, heading out the back. The others volunteer Justin to go after him. He says they were trying to help. Mason admits that he felt sure from the start with Beth and doesn’t feel that with Dempsey, but also can’t compare other girls to her. Justin says the baby won’t be loved less if he and Dempsey aren’t together but he should do what he thinks is right.
Irene comes back into the Diner after a phone conversation with Olivia, telling Jasmine she’s doing well and has a flat overlooking the Yarra. Jasmine offers an evening of comfort food. As she leaves, she bumps into Robbo and checks they’re still on for the morning. Robbo approaches Alf and asks how much the gym is, saying he might know someone who’s interested. Next morning, Irene and Marilyn go for a power walk together, discussing missing Olivia and Ty and the fact Alf’s invited John to meet a potential buyer for the gym. Jasmine comes up; Robbo didn’t turn up for their morning run.
At the surf club, John is bewildered when Alf introduces Robbo as the potential buyer. Robbo says he has savings from his Feds days. John says running a business means being organised (Robbo asks if that includes sorting out trainers and towels) and actually talking to people. Alf tells him to just give Robbo the details. Later, Jasmine turns up at the Diner flat asking Robbo where he got to. Robbo says he forgot, and eventually tells her about his plan. He is bothered by John’s words but Jasmine says he can just train the trainers and tells him to make the call.
Mason and Dempsey meet at the Diner. She thinks he’s trying to let her down gently. Mason asks if it would mean living together. Dempsey says eventually and she still wants the baby. Mason agrees they should do what they can for the baby but need to be ready so suggests they go for a date. Later, at Salt, he fills in Justin, Brody and Tori. His brothers are supportive, if teasing, but Tori is depressed, saying everyone seems to have their lives sorted – Brody married, Justin with Willow, Mason having a baby – except her. Justin and Brody follow her onto the balcony and ask why she didn’t say anything. She says she didn’t want them to know but muses that Mason has shown there might be an alternative to the donor stuff…other than Brody’s suggestion of irresponsible sex.
Robbo finishes his phone call and tells Jasmine the owners accepted his offer: He’s bought the gym. They hug and he kisses her. She responds at first but then they pull away. After a few awkward moments, Jasmine hurries out.
