Extended Summary

Robbo comes across Dean sitting near the beach and says he heard from Colby about Dean moving out. Dean admits that he doesn’t have any plans other than his next court appearance. Robbo points out he had a life before Summer Bay but Dean says there’s nothing for him in Mangrove River. Meanwhile, Irene is writing up the Specials board outside the Diner. Jasmine comes past and Irene again winds her up about her “date” with Robbo. Jasmine again insists it’s just two friends having dinner and points out Irene has misspelled quiche.

John comes through with some clothes of Ty’s that he found in the linen. Marilyn suggests Ty could pick them up when he visits or they could ask him when they next speak to him on the phone, but John isn’t convinced either of those things will actually happen so Marilyn agrees with his suggestion to post them. She muses that as Ty hasn’t rung that means things are working out for him and they should be happy, but John isn’t listening, instead making plans to mow the lawn. At the Diner, Marilyn compares notes with Irene: They’re missing Ty and Olivia but know they did what was right for them. Marilyn then gets a call from Catherine. Dean comes in to a hostile reception from Alf, who has heard from the police that Dean knocked him over, and also Irene, about the credit card scam. Dean leaves.

Ben and Maggie have finished watching a movie and Ben comments on the lack of interruptions now there’s less people in the house. Ben offers to make dinner but finds the fridge empty and comments on losing their personal chef. Maggie offers to make something but Ben suggests they go to the Diner: They can use her personal cutlery and crockery and sit away from anyone else. Maggie agrees. Meanwhile, Marilyn comes home and tells John that Catherine thinks they did such a good job with Ty that she’s going to put them on the fostering register. John snaps that she can take them off again and is annoyed that Marilyn agreed without consulting him, accusing her of trying to replace Ty.

Jasmine meets Robbo at Salt. She checks there’s nothing more to the meal than he made out, then asks how they’re going to split the bill. Robbo insists it’s his treat. Jasmine jokes about ordering something expensive before settling on house white and pizza. Robbo says he’s already ordered that but wasn’t sure if she wanted dessert. Later, Jasmine complains about him ordering Hawaiian pizza, saying it isn’t even from Hawaii, it was invented by a Greek man in Canada. Robbo says the place where he grew up in Albury only had three types of pizza and he and his friends had one after tae kwon do. He explains he was a skinny kid. Jasmine says she looked into self-defence and suggests he start classes.

Ben and Maggie turn up at the Diner. Irene happily greets them and agrees to their restrictions, showing them a secluded table on the veranda. Later, Maggie has finished eating while Ben is still finishing off. He suggests turning Ziggy’s room into an en suite bathroom or home gym. Maggie suggests an office or study. Irene takes Maggie’s things to wash for her. As she’s doing so, Marilyn turns up and tells her about her fight with John, saying this feels different. Out the back of the Palmer house, Alf is talking to John about upping security at the surf club, checking who’s got keys and installing CCTV. John is not listening again and tells him about the argument with Marilyn. Alf tries to defend Marilyn but John says it’s not just about the disagreement, it’s about them.

Robbo goes to the bar for a refill. He runs into Dean, who only has enough money for one drink. He says he’s going to sleep in his car. Robbo suggests he needs a clean slate and gives him money for a motel room. Dean says he’ll let Robbo get back to his date. Robbo says it’s not a date but admits he doesn’t know what it is. Dean goes to the motel, where he puts the chain on and puts his bag down. He contemplates calling Willow but doesn’t.

Ben and Maggie return home. Ben offers to go with her office/study idea but Maggie doesn’t think they should be in such a hurry to get rid of Ziggy’s things. Ben isn’t keen on keeping the room as a shrine. He gets a call from Ziggy asking him to fix the shower and agrees with Maggie that they should keep things the same in case Brody and Ziggy come back. Meanwhile, Marilyn tries to talk to John about why he doesn’t want to foster again. John asks if she’s thought about what Raffy might want, saying they should concentrate on her. He cuts the conversation short, saying he’ll sleep in Ty’s room.

Jasmine is telling Robbo a story about a disastrous blind date where she accidentally texted him her opinion of him. She notes Robbo doesn’t laugh very often. He says he used to with his children and shows her a photo of himself with his family. They realise the restaurant is closing when the staff starts turning things off and Jasmine comments that she’ll be yawning through her assessment tomorrow. Next morning, Alf and Irene run into each other outside the Diner. Dean comes over and apologises, stressing that Willow had nothing to do with it and they shouldn’t blame her. After he’s gone, Alf and Irene aren’t quite sure what to make of it although Alf says it took guts.

Robbo is going for a run on the beach when he comes across Jasmine coming back from a swim and has to have it pointed out that he’s standing on her towel. She says they should do it again some time and heads off to work, leaving Robbo looking confused. Up on the headland, Dean takes what seems to be a last look around Summer Bay before getting in his car and driving off.
