Extended Summary

Raffy meets Justin outside the surf club for breakfast, chiding him for being late. She comments on her problems with Ty and him not letting her listen to his music, especially when teaching her guitar was meant to be payment for tutoring him. Justin tells her to cut Ty some slack since he’s probably not used to a big family. Meanwhile, Alf, Leah, Roo and Ryder are gathering for breakfast with Leah’s phone repeatedly pinging to indicate another uncomplimentary message. No-one seems keen to take Ryder up on his offer to troll them back.

Ben and Maggie have just got home and Ben is on the phone to Tori. He asks if there’s been any news from the donor register, which frustrates Maggie somewhat since she doesn’t feel the need to talk about it. She says they might not find a match in time and she doesn’t want to waste time on false hope. Later, Ben offers to get her something but Maggie tells him to go for a surf: She’s had enough of being fussed over and Roo is round later. After Ben’s gone, Maggie retrieves a box full of mementoes including photos, a teddy and children’s drawings. She looks through photos of Ziggy’s birthday, her and Ben’s “wedding” on the beach and the girls when they were young.

Raffy returns home and apologises to Ty for before, saying she understands that his music is private to him, like a diary. Ty accepts the explanation and they shake hands. John comes through and suggests Ty expand his social circle: He is pleased when Ty instantly decides to go and see Ryder. At the Diner, the only complimentary message Marilyn can find is one saying Leah’s really hot, while Roo regrets encouraging Leah to make the new video. Leah notes they’re now starting to attack VJ as well and decides to take the site down. Marilyn and Roo tell her they’re proud of what she tried to do.

At the surf club, John points Ty and Ryder out to Justin, claiming credit for them hanging out. Ryder says Raffy texted him about their fight. Ty recites the conclusion he and Raffy drew about his music being like a diary but Ryder doesn’t see the comparison…then decides Ty must like Raffy, since he agrees with her and is nervous around her. Ty says he’s like that with everyone but seems to be considering it. Down on the beach, Justin runs into Ben, who’s clearly not concentrated on his surf. He tells Justin about the cancer markers and how he’s annoying Maggie but doesn’t want her to stop fighting.

Maggie is still looking through the box when Roo turns up. Maggie shows her photos of the girls when they were young. She bursts into tears at the prospect of not seeing them grow up and Ben being left on his own, saying she’s not ready to leave them. Roo comforts her. Later, Roo brings her a hot drink and tells her that even though she’s being strong for everyone else she can’t keep it bottled up. She tells Maggie to let it out with her. Roo clears the box away and Maggie notes a home-made “Mum’s Day” card the girls gave her twelve years ago. She asks Roo for a favour.

Ty returns home and asks Raffy about telling Ryder about their fight. Raffy doesn’t think it’s a big deal. Ty offers to play her some of the music and keeps shooting her awkward looks. At the Diner, Leah reads Alf and Marilyn a comment from someone saying the video made her feel that she’s not alone. They shoot glances at Ryder and his laptop before Leah decides to keep the website up after all. Ryder surreptitiously records her on his phone as she says it’s worth it if it just helps one person, the internet is full of people with nothing nice to say and she has to concentrate on the positive comments.

At the Diner, Marilyn offers to re-post Leah’s video again as Leah and Alf leave. John turns up and Marilyn gives him a lasagne to take home, adding that it’s for Ty and Raffy and they’re having vegan surprise. Justin asks to go with him since he wants to meet Ty. Meanwhile, Maggie has envelopes addressed to Ben, Ziggy and Coco. Ben comes home and notices the writing paper which Maggie explains Roo got for her. After he’s gone in the shower, Maggie resumes writing a letter to Ziggy.

At the caravan park house, Ryder plays his recording of Leah again, then finds the log-in details for her website in a drawer. Ty brings his laptop over to Raffy and gives her the earphones to listen to his music. Raffy is impressed and they briefly hold hands as she listens. Afterwards, he plays her something else: A mix of nature noises and music he made after going into the bush with his grandfather. Raffy closes her eyes to listen and Ty kisses her, which she responds to. John and Justin choose that moment to come in and are shocked.
