Extended Summary
Irene comes home and Jasmine tells her Olivia’s upstairs. Irene calls her down then notes Jasmine’s beer, saying she’s an alcoholic and there’s no alcohol in the house except on special occasions, although she admits they’ve been a bit lax about it in recent years. Jasmine is apologetic but Irene dismisses it and says they’re going to have a proper meal to welcome Jasmine. Jasmine decides to invite Mason, since they were meant to be hanging out, but Olivia says she’s busy with designs so Irene says she can take a plate and get back to it. Olivia is left on the sidelines again as Irene and Jasmine get things ready.
Meanwhile, Maggie is sat at the table on her own with the candles nearly burned down. She gives up and serves herself some salad. Brody and Ziggy are watching Ben and his workmates in Salt, who look like they’ve settled in for the night. Ziggy decides she’ll have to step in, even though it means missing their movie date. She drags Ben out, telling him to give her his keys. As they get home, she complains about having to look after her drunk dad. Ben sees the candles on the table and a note saying “Hope your first day was good” (with two kisses) and the penny drops.
Brody serves Ebony and wonders what brings her to town, explaining it’s a small town and he knows everyone else there at least by sight. Ebony asks about Colby, who is sat out on the balcony, and Brody explains he’s the local cop, although he doesn’t know anything about his relationship status. He offers to introduce them but Ebony excuses herself. When Colby comes to the bar, Brody points out Ebony to him as she leaves. Ebony heads back to a motel room and prints out the photo of Dean and Colby. She already has a picture of Justin and Ava, along with ones of Tori and Willow.
Jasmine finds Irene sitting up late and explains she’s still awake because of shift work. She wonders if Olivia minds her being there and Irene says she was just being prickly. With a bit of pushing, she explains she has her yearly mammogram the next day, explaining about her breast cancer and how she’s especially worried this year because of Maggie. Jasmine reassures her and Irene says she just needed to hear it. Olivia comes down as Jasmine is going back to bed and wonders if something’s wrong. Irene says not anymore. Next morning, Brody is serving Ziggy breakfast as Ben apologises to Maggie, saying he got caught up. Maggie is pleased he gets on with his workmates but as he leaves, there is a slightly bitter edge to her tone as she notes she’ll be there as always.
Ebony is waiting in her car outside the Diner as Colby comes past, having just been surfing. She takes out a knife… Later, when Colby comes back that way, now in uniform, Ebony is standing by her car, which has a flat tyre. He offers to help out. Hunter and Mason come along and also offer to help but Ebony says they’ve got it in hand. However, Colby gets a call asking him to go into work so tells her she’ll have to rely on the boys. Ebony gets a bit more interested when she learns Mason is Justin’s brother and he offers to get her a deal at the garage.
Inside the Diner, Marilyn is telling John that she thinks they should do something to make Raffy feel like part of the family. John points out she’s already had a welcome meal but Marilyn wants to redecorate her room. Ryder interjects, saying Raffy isn’t into unicorn posters or fluffy pillows, and suggests they let her do it herself but Marilyn isn’t to be deterred until she gets a phone call. Meanwhile, Ziggy asks Maggie if she’s angry with Ben. Maggie isn’t but is feeling fed up being stuck at home all the time. Ziggy says things will go back to normal eventually and thinks that sitting on the sofa watching midday movies isn’t that bad.
Marilyn finishes a phone call on the wharf as John approaches. She tells him it was the fostering agency. John is confused since their application was rejected but Marilyn explains it’d been reconsiderd and they want them to take on a 15-year-old boy as an emergency. Meanwhile, Mason is chatting to Ebony as Hunter changes the tyre and tells her about his family. Hunter tells her the tyre has been slashed, in a way that tried to disguise it. They suggest she tells the police and she gets the idea of telling Colby. Mason asks her out for coffee but she tells him if he wanted to impress her he should have changed the tyre instead of watching.
At the Diner, Irene tells Leah that her mammogram went fine. Leah thinks Irene should have called her if she was worried but Irene says it was the middle of the night and Jasmine sorted her…although it put Olivia(who is sitting nearby)’s nose out of joint. Ziggy joins Olivia who asks if she’s easy to talk to. Olivia is upset that Irene spoke to Jasmine instead of her and thinks it was better when it was just her and Irene, and Jasmine should move out. Irene sharply scolds her and she realises Jasmine has just come in. Later, Irene tracks Olivia done on the wharf and points out she invited Jasmine to move in. Olivia admits she’s bothered about how well Irene and Jasmine get on, saying Irene’s the only family she has in town and she doesn’t even have Hunter anymore. Irene explains about the mammogram; Olivia is shocked that she didn’t know. Irene tells her to make things up with Jasmine.
In Salt, Marilyn explains about the boy to John: He was being looked after by his grandparents but his grandmother died three months ago and now his grandfather’s had a stroke. John is sympathetic but less than certain about taking him on when Raffy’s only just moved in, saying their priority has to be what’s best for her. Meanwhile, Ziggy runs into Ben outside the Diner and he assures her he’s heading straight home after having a coffee. Leah and Hunter are nearby; Leah has asked Hunter’s help in setting up a website, a kind of holistic community group. She says a lot of her friends have been lost recently, including her, and she wants them to have a safe place to chat at any time.
Ben arrives home to find Brody and Ziggy serving up a meal. Ziggy explains they thought they’d have a second go at the meal, as Maggie joins them. Ben asks what the catch is and Ziggy says they have to eat it with them. Meanwhile, Ebony is on the phone, saying Colby wasn’t at the police station. She hangs up as Colby approaches and tells him about her tyres being slashed. He says he’s been at an incident all day. Ebony offers to buy him a drink to thank him for his help. Colby points out he hasn’t actually done anything so Ebony says he should buy her one in that case. Colby sees Jasmine coming up from the beach and tells Ebony his life is complicated before going to chat to her.
Olivia arrives home and finds Jasmine there. Jasmine says she didn’t mean to cause trouble and offers to move out. Olivia tells her to stop being so nice, admitting that she’s jealous that all her friends love Jasmine and she saves lives. Jasmine says Olivia has her own business, which Olivia says she’s struggling to keep afloat. Jasmine points out that until recently she shared a bathroom with twenty strangers. They laugh. Meanwhile, Ebony meets Hazel in a car near the beach, saying it’s dangerous for her to be there. Hazel doesn’t understand why Ebony is getting to know everyone, saying she should get in, do the damage and get out. Ebony says she’s going to make them pay but she’s going to have fun first.
